I just bought some bass parts from Dan. Good communications throughout and he resolved a "packing oversight" very quickly. Great chap to deal with.

I once stood there, semi-inebriated, talking to a chap backstage where my band were appearing as the main act. There were a bunch of naked blokes on stage at the time doing a balloon dance. We had a good old chat, basically slagging off the dancers. I found out later that the chap was Dave Edmunds

If you're just changing one, maybe fit a drop D tuner? Slightly more expensive than a straightforward tuner but really handy if you do any de-tuning Edit to say I recently fitted a Hipshot GB7 on my Indonesian Squier P-Bass Special. It was the "Mexican" one. However check your measurements if you think of getting one.

1x singer with alcohol issues - never knew if he would turn up or in what state. Obviously performance suffered too 1x guitarist that could never end a solo without the rest of the band shouting "for f***s sake stop" 1x keyboard/band leader who after nearly 3 years of weekly rehearsal still thought it was a bit soon to start thinking about booking gigs Apart from those though, I've been in 2 bands for the last 30 odd years, same line up apart from the drummer (who over the course of 10 years turned from a nice chap into an egotistical and spiteful t**t!) The new one is cool

It's a pretty hefty thing to have shipped from Europe though

It was a great amp and served me well (Peaveys are usually pretty bomb proof) but the Fender is half the weight, more refined - but not overly so... and plain has more balls on tap! Peaveys are (usually) good amps

I think you need an "extreme relic" award or something Not to my personal taste but very brave all the same. I personally prefer natural wear & tear

Before I got my current Fender Rumble 500 combo I used to use a Peavey Databass. It's very similar to the photo you posted and uses the same 1x15 BW speaker. I reconed it twice over its working life. It's a fairly simple matter of unbolting the big magnet from the old speaker and bolting it onto the new one. The cones have undergone a few revisions. The last one I fitted was definitely a later revision than the two older cones

I would have said mine has heft Great bottom end on it though - it doesn't need any boost on the bass tone control at all ime

Our tribute is not to ruin any of his songs. We just don't have the electromagical gizmos to do them justice. That's probably why most bands are doing Purple Rain - because it's the only song that might be vaguely recognisable when reproduced down the Dog & Duck by the Weekend Warriors

I can recommend the Melvyn Hiscock book - it's available from his website - ignore the silly prices on Amazon! It's a good book to give you a decent understanding and then there are lots of guitar building websites out there with build diaries e.g. ProjectGuitar.com (where I'm documenting my first guitar build - not a bass though!) Edit to say that funnily enough I was thumbing through Melvyn's book earlier this evening while waiting for my lad at his music lesson

That looks fantastic

The top and back laminates almost look like oak. Is the centre neck laminate walnut? Not easy to tell on my mobile phone with my knackered old eyes

Try flipping the phase on the J pup then? (As well as putting the P back how you like it)
