1. I'll leave my Rumble in the car. I'll drag it out on request - will that do? Edit: I know a few people were interested last year as it was a fairly new bit of kit. I assume most that are interested are more familiar with them now, but it won't take a second to set up if you ask
2. A multimeter can measure various things in electrical circuits, one of which being continuity i.e. can electricity flow between the two points where you place the probes
3.
Can you get a Road Worn Ferrari?
Very easily. Just park it in the supermarket car park for 10 minutes and some ar*e will scrape it / open their door on it
4. Skinny for me. My currently favoured Squier P-bass Special has a neck like a matchstick. My Ric is a lot wider but not too deep.
5. £20 a plate for the odd one-off sounds like a bargain to me
6. It sounds to me like the truss rod has freed itself from the anchor point. That will most likely involve removal of the fretboard to fix unfortunately. Find a local experienced luthier to take a look. As it's a bolt on neck, a replacement may work out cheaper - so I'd also explore that option
There's a serious gap in the market there.
Wear a dressing gown then!
8.
Yeah, do you think I'll look mad carting a 1981 Washburn through neck bass into superdrug or boots's down the fingernail polish aisle? The wife seems to have a great selection of reds, purples and blacks - no Browns though. Wonder if the nail lady she has round (seemingly every week) has some brown pots spare... Heard that the superglue helps keep the finish hard/protected.
Get yourself an Avon book
9. Nice save and a good job on the impromptu inlay work. Those side dots look great too. /Adds late-night changes to the NOT todo list
10. As a bit of a coda on this, the lacquer has cracked/crazed in a couple of places. Andy isn't happy with it so he wants it back to refinish again. He's a top bloke is Andy! Btw, whichever BCer has the Ibanez Musician with Andy at the moment - that's a gorgeous bass! I'm wondering what all the knobs do though
11. I think that means to check the continuity of the connection between the bridge, the cavity shielding and the outer sleeve of the jack socket. There should be a wire that makes contact under the bridge - if the humming stops when you touch the bridge that's a sign of a dodgy connection
12. Another alternative when doing the final finishing is to use a cabinet scraper. They are quite cheap and can give a really good finish. It's basically a piece of spring steel with a burnished "hook" on the edges, and will let you get a lovely smooth finish
13. I'd be tempted to use a bandsaw rather than a jigsaw if you have access to one. Otherwise, be prepared for a lot of rasp/file work. I've never found a jigsaw that will cut vertically yet, so leave plenty of material to finish by hand if you go that route
14. Another vote for the Comfort Strapp here. Comfortable and bomb-proof
15. ... unless yours has had a similar mod done and the capacitor is knackered
16. I'm sure my Databass combo thumped when you turn it on, but just the once. Mine did have a habit of blowing fuses when switched on until it was modded with a capacitor across the main power lines. Sorry, that's probably not much help
17. If you're not keen on a combo you could get the standalone Rumble head and cabs
18. I bet you need a forklift truck to haul that in & out
19. Thanks nash. That's food for thought. Keeping the PSU strapped down next to the gadget would help minimise wear and tear. I'll rewire the original Boss PSU (which has the internal break in the cable)
20. I just remembered the freezer spray trick and then Phil beat me to it
21. Sounds like your guitarists are too loud. The V3 is the latest afaik, which I think Thomann list as the "2014" model. If it's got the old school silver cloth it's the V3
22. The 14V one I bought was advertised as being suitable for the GT6B but tbh is the flimsiest piece of crap that should never go near a stage. I'll keep looking (or maybe there's a business opportunity there?)
23. B-stock doesn't mean broken. If the truss rod doesn't work send it back
24. Mine played up after about 6 weeks of use, but was sorted by GAK and Fender. It's done a LOT of gigs since and I have great confidence in it. Most stuff tends to either fail early on or to last for years
25. I recently had the 14V PSU for my Boss GT6B develop a fault - the strands broke where the cable goes into the strain relief grommet. I bought a replacement and it's the cheapest, flimsiest thing imaginable. Then last night the 9V (but +ve cenre pin) PSU for my DMX lighting controller had severed through the strands at the same point where it enters the grommet. I made do for the night by stripping the cables back, twisting them together and wrapping in gaffer tape. They all seem so cheap and fragile, even the OEM supples. Can you get decent, robust PSUs? Can anybody recommend a brand?
