A guitarist is auditioned and can't take a "no thanks"
lou24d53 replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
I once turned up to an audition the evening after spending the whole wrestling the gearbox and transfer-box out of a BMW 4x4. I'd done so much damage to myself that I couldn't play a note. People do sometimes have off days. No, I didn't get the gig. I didn't like the drummer any way
I believe we very very briefly crossed paths at an audition, perhaps even the one you refer to...because yes, that drummer was a knob and although I was 'lucky' to be given the part advertised, the band less than spectacularly imploded in less than six months having never played a note outside of the rehearsal room, which was largely due to drummers aforementioned knobness!! -
Master Of Puppets on a Jazz Bass....! God, I fookin’ love Rob Trujillo, the guy is a bass master / Machine, but cool as fook and a bloody nice guy to boot... What a gig, the live bass solo of Anaesthetia (Pulling Teeth) with the Cliff Burton footage was spectacular...I was loving that...tears in the eye stuff that...!! 😎🍺

Can't wait for tomorrow night, heading to the Hydro in Glasgow...and only just realised that it is a single day off 25 years to the day from first seeing them live on the Wherever We May Roam tour (Black Album)coincidentally...

Thanks for the offer, I’m hardly through Edinburgh way these days, but appreciated 👍
It is going to be... noticeable wider! But it's relatively shallow too, which makes it very comfy for me (and my hands are not big)... I find I adapt pretty quickly to the wider spacing and then it never becomes a problem.
I went into Guitar Guitar in Glasgow on Friday, but as expected, none in stock - wanted to try one out. I’m sure the difference will be noticeable, but I also suspect it’ll will be manageable - used to play 5-strings, so I’m no stranger to a wide neck. The the only time I really struggled to adapt to a neck width was with a Lakland 55-02, I bought it knowing it was a struggle but convinced myself I’d adapt...which I didn’t...! 🙄😆

Was hoping it was going to be positive feedback...! I'm taking a wee trip into Glasgow later to meet a mate for a few beers after work, so I'm planning on popping into Guitar Guitar first to see if they have any in stock to give them a wee try......it says awaiting stock on the website, but still, any excuse to visit.........initially I was looking at the black / maple but now I am being drawn to the sunburst more......and I've never (ever!) owned a sunburst bass in my 25+ years of playing...!!! As one who has mainly played and owned Jazzes over the years, my only concern is the thickness and width of the neck......

Incidentally, what's the difference between the Classic 50's and the Classic 50's Lacquer...is it purely as simple as the paint finish...?

It's amazing how much you can get swayed when you are bored at work, trying to kill the day and for the last couple of hours have been reading review after review and thread after thread on these basses...right now I'm wanting to dust off the credit card and do something impulsive and thoroughly reckless...!! Must remain focussed........
I obviously have a much lower resistance than you, I only started thinking about them a week ago and now I'm playing one!
I'm looking out for a P-bass just now actually - well, maybe a month or two when funds are replenished! - and had been on the lookout for a Lakland 44-64 Black / Maple initially, but coincidentally I've only starting reading up about these 50's Classic P's this morning and then stumbled across your post...I'm liking what I'm reading / hearing about these...seems to be a decent 2nd hand price around £550 on the forum for recent sales...certainly getting tempted...

In my experience, guitarists are far worse... I've maybe just been lucky that the majority of drummers I've played with have been reliable, decent at keeping time and dare I say...of sound mind... However, my experience with guitarists on the other hand................
I haven't watched the show but following this thread and jumping in and out of the programme and fast forwarding to each band but so far i thought The Caffreys stole the show. Harmonies are incredible and a great song. And i have mates from Scotland on it who were shown a 4 sec clip but The Caffreys is a band i'd like to see live maybe up in Scotland at some point please if you're listening. Dave
Crossfire?

This wasn't an immediate winner for me, was a bit of a grower, but I really like it now. He's going to be touring the UK in the Autumn - so he said live on Radio 2 last week. I can't wait to see him live again.

I'm still getting over Bowie, absolutely gutted at this news.

I had a number of lessons with Jodie a few years ago, amazing player and a thoroughly decent bloke to boot. Not sure about now, but he used to teach here...http://academyofmusic.ac.uk/courses/scotland-only/

Fender AVRI 75 Jazz FSR - CAR with Matching Headstock ...WITHDRAWN.

Trade Value: £1250 Sale Value: £1150 After swithering somewhat, I've eventually decided to put up for sale my Candy Apple Red 2002 Fender AVRI 75 Jazz FSR with matching head-stock which I bought from Basschat's very own Karlfer back in December 2013. The bass is numbered 00167 and comes with all case candy etc., as you'd expect. The condition is immaculate, honestly cannot find a single scratch, bump, ding etc., anywhere on this bass. Reason for sale is purely down to it not being used. To be blunt, this bass is too nice and too great a quality for my needs. It has literally been played around a dozen times since I bought it just over two years ago and each time only at studio rehearsals...the thought of me playing it down the local 'Dog and Duck' scares the bejesus out of me in fear of cracking that lovely, sparkly and shiny headstock...!! Happy to insure and courier at buyers expense. Bank transfer only, or cash on collection. Anyway, enough of the chat, here's the pictures...... *Snazzy cushion not for sale! Just reading on Dave Swift's Facebook page, calamity at the Promenade Music stand earlier, full wall of about 30 basses collapsed dropping everything to the floor. A number of basses damaged by his account!!
-
Saw them a good few times, remember Mick Quinn rocking a black headless Steinberger at the Glasgow ABC a good number of years ago...it was that long ago, Seasick Steve was the support act before anyone really knew who Seasick Steve was at the time...!!
-
Gerry Leonard is the blonde guitarist, from Dublin I believe and Cathy Russell (I think?). Privileged to see them back in 2003 on the Reality Tour, absolutely sublime.
