http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2013/03/28/machine-head-holding-open-auditions-for-bassist/ Looking for a really sweet summer job? A month after splitting with longtime bassist Adam Duce, Machine Head is searching for a temporary bassist to play with them during this summer’s Mayhem Festival. The veteran metal band announced their bass auditions on their Facebook page. The audition requires bassists to record “standalone performances” of themselves playing and singing along to the songs “This is The End,” “Halo,” and “Beautiful Morning.” Applicants must also include a one to two minute statement about their musical experience, playing, and touring experience. After uploading the videos to YouTube, you have to email links of the videos to "][email protected]. Machine Head will narrow down the entries to potential candidates then hold in-person tryouts. Are you going to try out? Go on, batter in guys...!!!!
2. Haven't heard any of the British Lion stuff, I'm assuming it's very Maiden-esque sounding?
3. Havin' a few beers and was searching thru some old music DVD's earlier, put on the Live Aid doovde and there he was with Mr Mullet himself, Paul Young... Fast forward an hour or so, then The Who came on...Pino's an awesome, awesome player, but he cannae lace the Ox's boots in my opinion...to be fair, not many can...
4.
Without wading through all the pages, whatever floats your boat, just get out there and play.
Indeed. And that'll be that.
5.
My USA 62 Reissue Precision is my main squueze. I will never part company with it as it was a leaving gift to me from my last place of work. Apart from that it is a marvellous bass.
Wow...That's some leaving present...!! I'd be lucky to get a decent bottle of red out the tight gits in my place...!!
6. Hey there, For Sale Only - PRICEDROP - was £900.00 - NOW TRADED I'm looking to sell or trade my Lakland Skyline 55-02 Deluxe. Although a 2009 model, I bought this brand new in Guitar Guitar in Glasgow in January 2012, but now have no real need or desire for a 5-string nowadays. I recently bought a 2nd hand Sadowsky MV4, which I'm finding takes up most of my attention these days, meaning that the Lakland is sitting idle and looking pretty much lost and neglected and it's far too good a bass to be left on display purely for ornamental purposes, so hence why I'm putting this on here. This bass is absolutely immaculate, in pristine condition, no dings, no scratches, no blemishes...nothing... Here's the link to the spec on the Lakland site: http://lakland.com/55-02.htm And some photos... Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us And finally, one in action...it did only see a paltry 4 gigs since I bought it...!!! Uploaded with ImageShack.us Will come with the hard case as detailed in the photos. Would prefer a straight cash sale, but would be up for a trade for the right Fender US P bass. Would also prefer local pick-up - I'm based in North Lanarkshire area - however would be prepared to courier (& insure) at buyers cost. Cheers for reading... Dougie.
7.
I think your reasoning is sound. Given your experiences , and your er... chronology based life committments (!) you could easily have thought ' f*** this' and packed in - instead you got off your arse and found a different way to enjoy playing. Good on you . chief.
Believe me, it was considered, and the prospect of an immediate return of approx £2k if I flogged my gear was extremely tempting...but...instead...having been completely self-taught over nearly two decades with a theory level of approx 0%, I instead looked upon the free time away from band distractons as being the prime opportunity and took the decision to enrole for lessons...haha, so all in all, it actually served as a wee wake up call in a some kind of strange way...!!
8.
Sounds bloody depressing my friend.
It was. I'm guessing your scene down in London will be considerably different to my experiences up in Glasgow with you having far greater number of venues to play, but we found ourselves playing pretty much the same venues time and again, in both bands, pretty much due to it being the simplest way to get out and about and get gigs. And whilst I can completely agree with the punter who mentioned about creating a scene, that's easier said than done, farting against thunder in most towns I bet.
9. Why a covers band? Well for me, I just want to play bass and to play to people who are geniunely interested in listening to and enjoying what you are playing...and if that means I'm playing to boozed up punters rocking away to Led Zep covers or to those throwing wildly drunken shapes on the dancefloor to Stevie Wonder tunes, then so be it. I can only speak of my own experiences, but with my last two bands being guys mid-to-late 30's, getting an original material band on the road in Central Scotland was proving more frustrating and morale-busting than it was a rewarding experience. So much so, that I now personally no longer have the commitment, drive or enthusiasm to come up with original music. A number of things done it for me... When the punters blatantly aren't remotely interested in the band playing on the stage... When punters would rather come in for the advertised "after the bands" DJ, rather than actually come and listen to a night of good, original bands and material... When you're trying to start up and venues are expecting you to sell at least 25-30 tickets before they'll even consider putting you on, so you're chasing the same people to come to practically ever other gig... When "promoters" don't bother their ass doing what their role name kinda suggests they should do and you get looked upon in disgust when you turn up with a crowd that would struggle to fill a decent to mid-sized people carrier... When the fans of the other bands on the bill f*ck off after their set (or even your own fans) and don't have the common courtesy to stick around...or even worse...routinely, members of your own band... When you're asked to turn up at 6pm or earlier to soundcheck, with the promise of a 45 minute set at 9pm, only to find out you've only got a 25 minute set at 11.00pm once the aforementioned pounters have all f*cked off... Promises of "free beer" mysteriously fail to be kept... Likewise, payment from the door, even if it is only a few bucks... I could go on... That said, probably most telling of all these days for me, at 39 years old, with a 9-5 decent job and a family to support...whilst by no manner of means over the hill, I have absolutely no interest in even having an attempt at "making it" so to speak, and when the other guys in the band have completely polar opposite aspirations, it's only fair to move on and let them have their shot at glory... Don't get me wrong, although it comes across in this post, I'm not at all bitter (well, not now I'm out of it) and I do genuinely prefer the reaction and response you get from playing covers, particulary when you put your own spin and rework something your own unique way as a band. Anyway, just my tuppence worth...
10. Here's my recently acquired MV4. This will be with me a very long time I think...
11.
Epiphone Les Paul (not so) Standard That's it, I think. Still got the Yamaha BB350F and the G&L El Toro. Miss the Epi a bit.
Funnily enough, I had the exact same bass as that, fleabayed it about 6 or 7 years and have missed it ever since!!
12. Dammit, I've just accidentally voted on "boring", as a proud owner of a black / maple MV4, I obviously meant to vote the other way...it has to be with a maple neck though, for me...in fact, I'd say I agree with Dave Vader and Muzz a few pages back, I'd go "it depends"...Black/Maple, "cool"...Black/Rosewood, "boring"....
13. I had a Precision Lyte Deluxe, 50th Anniversary edition, bought it mid-90's from Sound Control in Glasgow for £450.00 and sold it only 4 or 5 years ago for a tenner less...not a bad return for nearly 15 years worth of playing I thought!
14. As rugs go, it's certainly up there for cosiness!! haha ;-)
15. Hey there, I'm Dougie from North Lanarkshire in Scotland, new to the forum, amateur (hobby) bass player just recently joined here. Here's what I'm playing just now... Sadowsky MV4 Lakland Skyline 55-02 Deluxe Not much else to add. Cheers, D.
16. Recently joined the Sadowsky family a few months ago...went into Glasgow a few weeks before Christmas 2012 to finish off my wife's Christmas present and came back home having purchased this little beauty... Completely loving it...
17. Here's my Skyline 55-02 Deluxe, 2009 model, but bought new from Guitar Guitar in Glasgow last January 2012... Actually thinking about putting it up for sale / for trade, although I absolutely love this bass and the build quality and sound is completely immense, I've no need for a 5'er anymore... Recently purchased a 2nd Sadowsky MV4 which is taking up more of my attention and finding the far thicker neck on this a bit of a struggle to get back into the swing of using... Anyway, just thought I'd add it to the rest of the Lakland clan...
