I'll chime in to say that I use mine as a back up to my SVT -CL. I use it with a VT bass to simulate the sound of the SVT and it gets pretty close. I always have this fear that my SVT will fail at some point after it did the first time i used it. The BH500 works well, it's light wait (so i don't have to carry the valve amp) and is small enough to fit in the front pocket of my gig bag. No realiability issues yet and i've never used the "thrust" feature.

Interesting to hear about the capacitor on them. I might have to add a push pull pot to mine to swap between a 0.1 and standard cap. Probably never use it but I can’t help but modify and change my basses! Ha

usual gig goes: Check over equipment at home Pack it all up ready to go check everything is packed (especially strap, leads etc) Put into my own car or if i'm catching a lift theres. Have an energy drink/ Coffee on the way down (usually tired from work) Get to venue unload and find out whats going on Depending on the gig (if its my own band or working as a backing musician) grab a beer or two. never more than 2 before is my rule (or one if it's not my own band) Soundcheck if there is one find some food, if theres time Warm up hands, i find i sometimes get cramps in them on the occassions i don't Play gig pack down as fast as possible (i really hate bands that slowly pack down on stage whilst congratulating themselves when theres a band waiting to go on.) Watch other band if not on last Pack car, Do a Check of the room to make sure havent forgotten anything Drink energy drink on way home, if driving and knackered, find food on way home if not eaten Stay awake for 3 hours after getting in due to some wierd adrenaline thing

It’s not difficult to trim down to size. I also found that the maple looked very white on mine so sprayed it with a tint. If I can do it so can anyone!

Part of me wishes i went for the bareknuckles but i got a good deal on a quarter pounder which so far has been fine. i'll probably swap it out at some point as i can't help but tinker with things. And to answer your question "when does it end?" = Never

I bought one of these a while ago and did a refinish on it. As others have said the electronics let it down a bit but pretty easy to install different pickups and wiring. I was quite amazed at how great they are, not just for the price but in general. It's now one of my go to basses. Difficult to describe how it sounds but seems to work in every application that i've tried it in. hopefully you'll have the same experience i did. looking forward to hearing what you think to it.

Anyone own both Barefaced Ten series and a Supertwin? Comparisons?
Wilson_51_ replied to fretmeister's topic in Amps and Cabs
I used to run two Super Compacts and now i run either a six10 or two10 depending on the situation. the 12 inch cabs have a flat response and what you put in is what you get out. Where as the 10s are Coloured and have a tone to them. I changed to the 10s becuase when i changed amp to an Ampeg, i wanted that vintage rock sound. i found it harder to get it out of the super compact. personally i found the 12s quite "sterile" which is in no way a bad thing and sort of hifi sound, the 10s more old school hope that helps! -
If your preferred tone and feel of the Rotosound Swing 66 then try the 50-110 set. I reckon they'll feel fine.

I had an ABM Evo III for ten years and it never let me down at all. I sent it back to Ashdown once just to get it checked/serviced and they replaced the VU meter free of charge (apparently it wasnt working perfectly, but i had never noticed) From my experience there customer service is wonderful so even *if* you do have an issue it will be very quickly resolved. Great amps and to be honest if i was in the market for another Ashdown i would probably buy a secondhand Evo III again as they go for peanuts

For sale is a Bright Onion Blender pedal. Great pedal with independent knobs for clean and effected signal. Has a phase switch which is great! I bought this last year and have used it with a couple of fuzz pedals. Works flawlessly. Costs £85 new so £50 Ono gets it. If if there’s no interest I don’t mind keeping this. £5 postage

Super Compact for trade or sale! Most people know how great these are but if you don't look up some reviews there wonderful! What I’m after is a Barefaced two10 so either a straight trade for one or close enough. If I can’t trade it I’ll sell it and buy a two10 I’ve gigged this the last couple of years. Sounds amazing but does have slight scuffs to it in places. 8 Ohms Can post for an extra tenner! or come and collect based in Sandy, Bedfordshire SG19

The best thing i found with buying a multieffects unit is that it helped me to understand what effects i wanted/ desired and i could experiment. I ended up using one for a while then started buying individual stompboxes later when i knew exactly the sound or effect i was after.

I agree with it sounding like interference. I would start by completley isolating it (no other pedals in the chain) and using a 9V battery. If it still makes the noise then it is not to do with power supply.

The reason i completley removed the paint is that im hoping to get some aging/relicing over the coming years and didnt want the red to show through every scratch or ding that would be made. i know Fender just repainted some of theres and through aging you can see the finish underneath. i wasn't sure that i wanted that effect.

just a quick update on this one. I used this these last two weeks playing a mixture of shows with the backing band including a festival called static roots in Germany. had a great time and this bass performed wonderfully. Really suprised me how much i like the sound of a single coil compared to my usual split coil precision .

No worries glad you found the thread and hope you get what you need from it! the pickup cover has now gone because i found it uncomfortable to play with it! hopefully it'll start to age and the pick guard will yellow over time like my other precision has. the custom decal was from http://www.guitardecals.co.uk I just emailed them saying what i was after The word Franken instead of Fender and they were more than happy to help.

try www.gig.ink ive had a couple made up by them and the price was great as was the service. I scanned my pickguard in and he sent me a pdf template to check it against the bass. both times it was the correct size. when they arrived the were good quality and just what i needed,.

I had looked into rehousing one of my boss pedals quite a while back and it is doable it is justa lot of work for very little gain. when i was looking at rehousing one i found that i would have had to rewire all the pots, jacks and switches, so in the end left it as it was.

depends on the size of the gig and what i can bring with me but they always get a coloured tone. If i'm using my big rig (SVT into a Barefaced 610) and it needs to go through the PA. I have one of those ampclamp wt pro, mic holders that slots onto the side of the amp. I bring an Audix D4 mic and just pop it on myself. I always ask the sound guy if its ok and usually there fine with it. If i bring the little rig (TC Electronic BQ500 into a Barefaced Supercompact), i use a vt bass preamp set to sound like my big rig and give them a DI pre EQ off the amp head.

Just thought I’d share with you guys i bought a BQ500 couple of months ago to use as a back up and as a mini rig for where I can’t lug around the big amp. my main rig is an Ampeg SVT and 610 barefaced cab. As my mini rig I’ve got the bq500 paired with a barefaced super compact 1x12. I run the amp flat and have a VT bass pedal that I use to get a remarkably close tone to my normal rig. (I a/b’d them with a lien selector until they were similar) obviously the SVT is amazing but for the gigs where it won’t fit in the car with all the other stuff, where there’s stairs or even just practices. It is amazing and it small enough to fit in my backpack of stuff!
