  1. I think there’s nothing cooler than a modified high end bass. Even if it ruins the resale value. I’ve got this to add - although it HAD to be modified because it came without any electronics. But since then it’s been prodded and poked, it’s got a Roland GK system and a few other things here and there. It probably wouldn’t work for anyone else but that’s ok with me! I’ve owned about five other Vigiers from this period and they are all special, but this one’s ‘mine’
  2. well i loved ur lessonz, wish i could do em 25/8
  3. To be honest I find a really grippy tripod stand every bit as stable as a neck grabbing type where the bass is free to pendulum against the legs.
  4. Kind of depends on the application though doesn’t it? Different stands for different needs

Seemed like at one time you couldn’t move for references to Nolly GetGoOD or dUG PiNniCk whoever they might be 😆
  6. I think a clanky bass with a relatively narrow range makes chords sound more ‘together’ whereas modern neck thru active basses with big tonal range make them sound more spatial and atmospheric
  7. Celinder J-Update Also by a man named Christian from Scandinavia Vigier Passion G&L SB1 Wingbass Stingray
  8. I assume you want a wooden stand because it'll look nicer in the lounge - but my recommendation is for a stand which you can barely see when there's a bass in it. The trouble with the neck grabbing type stands is that you can see the long pole behind the neck from most angles. And the problem with lots of A frame types is that the bass leans back a lot so it takes up more room. The Ibanez PT-32 is great - folds down to fit in a gig bag, nearly flat - and it's really s table with an instrument in and leans back much less than the Hercules Mini. As I say, with a bass in the stand you can barely see the stand at all, so it's visually pleasing too. The only hiccup - it's not great with offset bodies Cheers ped
  9. Quite funny if you play all the clips at once
  10. Fun. Control. Money. No drunk punters pouring lager on your pedals. No useless ‘sound man’. No load in/out. No ‘sex on fire’!
  11. A ‘chat’ of bassists
  12. I’ve tried everything too, but everyone wants to play indie covers or punk, which I can’t stand. I’m trying to establish some links at the university where I work, as there’s a number of musicians on staff who might be up for a jam. Perhaps that’s worth a try at the university or college near you. Many have quite generous outreach programmes offering free lessons and so on and may have some useful info. Be prepared for a lot of time wasters though. I put this advert up and a day later had TWO people write to me saying ‘Do yOu wANT to PlaY PunK CovErs?’ https://bandonkers.co.uk/fusion-funk-bass-player-available-york-14177
  13. Guessing not enough sales to justify that. Seems fair enough to me. I buy a 4 string set + high C for my wingbass.
  14. You buy the C string separately like you do the B in a five string set

Maybe ‘craze’ is a better word - lots of these examples and my own are still popular after an initial explosion.
  16. Over the years I’ve seen lots of ‘fads’ come and go. I’m not saying the equipment is bad or anything but you know that rush which filters through the community when something is adopted at scale. I’m trying to recall some of the most memorable and wondered what you can think of, considering some of you have been here almost as long as me! The first I remember I think was Thunderfunk amps. Everyone needed one. What else have you got?
  17. Thought it would be more passive
  18. Found a pink one next to the A1079!
  19. Love a P bass 😁
  20. I've hidden all the arguing. It's gone farad enough.
  21. So now I’ve got 7 straps and 4.5 basses 🤪
  22. I just bought a Slapstrap(tm) from a great basschatter. I had one of these fantastic straps back in about 2005 and have no idea what happened to it. It’s perfect for the backbeat because the clips are covered by the section of the strap which opens to allow the placement of the Velcro ‘tail’ - a feature which makes the strap really adjustable. I tried the same sort of thing with a Comfort Strapp but the neoprene section between the backbeat and body absorbed too much of the vibration so this is a great middle ground 👍🏼
  23. Hi folks I've got a few to post this morning - if anyone fancies a set or two get your order in by 11:30ish!
