  1. OK guys the locks have been made and are getting shipped tomorrow! I'll be in touch soon RE payment!
  2. Lovely set of basses there, they look great together!
  3. Yeah that would be great fun. Been very tempted with the exact same bass myself. Let me know if you have any questions about it. Cheers
  4. Yes still here boxed up and ready to go!
  5. Ah just realised you’ve posted some pics on the super mini basses thread. I thought I recognised the shape. Seeing the build process is really interesting.
  6. Don’t know how I missed this! What a fantastic little thing.
  7. Isn’t it weird that there are millions of J and P bass clones out there but hardly any Stingray copies? I’m very happy with my ‘off brand’ P and J basses (each I feel is a refinement and ‘improvement’ on the ‘original’) and I haven’t owned a Stingray for years. Naturally I’d look for adaptations of the original out of curiosity but although I’ve never really thought about it before I realise I can’t think of anything except some G&L models which naturally are pretty similar. Also I have nothing else to do, I’m on a diet and desperate for the distraction because I know there’s nice cheese in the fridge and I’ve got at least 15 mins until the family come home when all snacks are monitored.
  8. Van Halen’s passing doesn’t upset me one bit, in all honesty. Not because I’m a git. Obviously it’s tremendously sad for his friends and family. But I didn’t know him. I liked his music, but that’s as far as my interest in him went. Is that bad? Same feelings for Rocco who passed recently. Tremendous player, seemed like a genuine guy and I grew up with his music. But times change. I like other music too. I appreciate the music he left behind that I can enjoy forever. Maybe it’s just me!
  9. Meh leave them to it. We all love our music in different ways.
  10. If the Elixirs were form Amazon but a marketplace seller then they may well be fake and you should be able to get a refund. Worth a try. Did they come in the old packaging like this?
  11. Sweet. Did you specify the placement of the pickup? I estimate you could get three more on there if you try hard enough
  12. Not really, just think the cutaway along the top of the neck looks a little sharp and like I say the bridge arrangement looks interesting. And I'm not sure about the yellow ones... mind you for the price I'm sure you could probably do worse. I'd be interested to hear your experiences...
  13. Yes that could be why. The plates are quite thick, certainly more than I remember on the last jazz bass I had.
  14. Thanks, yes I think it can come with a Badass type. This one is a Gotoh slightly stylised BBOT which works well - nice to have plenty of adjustment at the saddles because the plate is so thin where it attaches to the body. Normally with high mass jobs I end up with the saddles as low as they can go.
  15. Neat little feature - the knobs are countersunk into the ‘bell plate’. Bye
  16. An example from the interwebs (NOT a Lakland)
  17. To be fair In my recent 70s fender quest I saw some natural bodies where the woods looked completely different , to the extent that they looked like ‘cut and shut’ jobs. Some had woods that reacted to the light differently so at some angles they looked similar but tilt it one way and the top half is totally different. It put me off definitely. Those ones should be painted!
  18. Thanks! Here’s a picture which probably gives a better idea of the colour of the bass. When the light hits it it’s really golden in colour and the grain jumps out. I don’t think there’s any ‘colour’ applied, just a clear finish, so I guess it’s the Ash that just looks so nice. I was playing it until well after midnight, enjoying every fizzy growly note that jumped off the fingerboard. We watched a scary film last night and normally I’d be a bit scared of going down to the office in the dark to play with my back turned but on this occasion I thought evil spirits be damned, maybe we can jam?
  19. I believe good sustain can give a more even and smoother sound and help pronounce dynamics, however sometimes I find that ‘popped’ notes can sound a bit too ‘long’ and as such a bolt on instrument with flats for example can make them sound more proud and like a snap. I don’t find changing the bridge has any real benefit either way but think it’s more about construction in particular the neck. I don’t think it’s generally about what I understand sustain to actually mean, I.e how long a note will ring when fretted, which as you say is generally more than enough - but more about how ‘alive’ the bass feels when played which can be an advantage or not depending on the context.
  20. I use a lighting to 3.5mm cable for that. A guess Bluetooth would eat battery power? You could get a BT reciever and plug that in, which you could charge separately?
  21. Interesting that the Atelier-Z site says the board on mine is ebony - I had presumed it was rosewood but ebony comes in all shades.
  22. I think that's an M245 or something (two jazz type knobs, two metal) which isn't chambered (I don't think) and has a Bartolini preamp. Basically the same though. He's a cool player! Some description of the models here - http://www.bassjapandirect.com/atelier-z.html
  23. Not sure what it’s called! It’s Vol, Vol (pull passive), Treble cut boost and bass boost only. Sounds excellent flat and it allows me to cut the treble on the bass so I can keep plenty of sizzle in reserve. Setup is pretty spot on now I think - neck is dead straight snd it only needs a tiny bit of pressure to get gnarly. I did look at several Fender Reissue models, finding it all quite complicated - some didn't even have 70s spacing. I’ll send an email to AtelierZ to see if they can tell me the spec of this one exactly because the fingerboard wood is gorgeous. And it’s really light, for a bass with a larger body than I’m used to. I think around 3.5kg but my scales aren’t great. Maybe the chambering helps but it’s hugely resonant. I haven’t had a Jazz bass for ages but it’s great to have one in the collection with my P bass too.
