  1. This came in the post today!! I posted a wanted advert here a few weeks ago asking for a Jazz Bass with 70s spacing. I had lots of messages and offers of all sorts of basses from vintage Fenders to modern super jazzes. I ended up going for this one for a few reasons, mostly from good experiences with Atelier-Z in the past, and the fact the bass exhibits none of the weight associated with 70s examples (certainly those that I tried). The body is chambered and a sandwich of alder and ash. It sounds superb; full of that 'breathy' quality of the best jazz basses I have tried. Slap is pure Marcus Miller territory when you want it to be, but I especially like the way it sounds with finger style and the occasional pop accent. The pickups feel great - very powerful and a muscular gritty detail when you dig in. Here's a pic of the chambering ...and here are some pics of the bass in my garden shortly before I walk Sybil and no doubt cause a rainstorm I'll do some sound samples once I have played with it. Cheers ped
  2. I thought Ibanez basses sold with Elixir strings as standard which would fit the look of these. See if the gauges match.
  3. I remember when I first heard Fizzle Fry I was late for work because I just couldn’t stop listening. Tbh it was the drumming that fascinated me the most. It took me a while to ‘interpret’ Claypools playing and found lots I liked about his approach in time. The Brown Album has some of my favourite playing, along with His work with Holy Mackrel on high ball with the devil.
  4. I’d be interested to hear how the intonation is with that bridge. I guess it’s because of the half scale but I find my wing needed very fine adjustment. Welcome to the club!
  5. Got any pics? What spec did you go for?

    NBD.. Suhr.

Great looking bass mate. I know you like a 70s jazz and this sounds like a great one. Enjoy!
  7. Hm I’d still class that as more of a ukulele than a mini bass
  8. Looks great - tell me more about the spec! I guess it’ll ‘sit’ further to your left than the wing? What electronics have you chosen?
  9. Threads like that are the lifeblood of forums. Advice changes, members who used to be new become the person who answers, and those who have been around for ages should just ignore and let them be repeated. Pointing people to old threads isn’t very welcoming and rarely that useful. Let people whet their appetite by discussing ‘the classics’ and before long they become more involved which benefits everyone. Otherwise Basschat would be a Wiki.
  10. Tbh I’ve seen better looking home made ones!
  11. Can you tell us more about the coating process? Having been an elixir user for many years I was led to believe they had patented the process of coating AFTER the string has been wound, which keeps dirt out of the windings. Other coated strings I’ve tried coat the winding before wrapping which always seemed counter intuitive to me and the strings felt dead as a result. Technology aside I look forward to trying these as the proof is in the pudding!
  12. Yeah thanks, interesting little basses but I’m looking for steel string half scale ‘mini basses’ rather than ukulele rubber string derivatives - which are also fun but not quite the same as they don’t sound like a normal bass.
  13. It says: This setting affects the number of new lines the user can create in a signature. A long line of text will automatically break (the point at which the text breaks depends on the width of the user's browser that is viewing the signature), and this is not affected by this setting.
  14. OK I have set a limit of one image, 468x60. Two links and three lines of text. I'm not sure if it applies retrospectively but let me know - otherwise it'll be new members only...
  15. I believe there’s a setting to limit signatures now so I’ll take a look. Any suggestions as to the maximum image size and number of lines? Images resize to fit the width I think so height is the most critical
  16. They don’t do steels in the 40-95 size so I’ve never used them but been using the nickels for years. The set on my Vigier are probably more than two years old and still sound fresh
  17. Ha there you go, shows you how much I know! Thanks!!
  18. I don't think it's possible, unless I ban you from Off Topic, which might do it. If I can work out how to do that.
  19. Doctor, stick some reverb on that bing! Can we change the waveform?
  20. Ah ok thanks so like the Kala then. I guess I’m thinking more of steel stringed magnetic pickup minis rather than ukulele derived versions although they’re fun in a similar way 👍🏼 I have a fretless Harley Benton uke which is nice for noodling but it doesn’t ‘feel’ like a bass
  21. I was just about to say, I actually spent about 30 mins looking for a roll of electrical tape that I was going to cut into strips and use to cover the spikes... then I sat there and thought 'hold on there's got to be a neater solution' when I realised I could just snip them more!!
