  1. Yep an SB1. Nice basses (regardless of what you play on it!) A very natural and logical evolution of the Fender Precision if you ask me. Great pickup, lovely smaller body, excellent bridge and anodised scratchplate with crackle paint finish - full US build quality for much less (often) than the better known Fender equivalent.

It was the 70s! 😂 They look OK to me?
  3. Incredible workmanship. The hole on the headstock means you can put it on your key ring!
  4. I wouldn’t expect mail delivery services to be operating anything like normally at the moment so maybe that’s partly to do with it.
  5. God damn that’s a beauty. Really interesting to see where the neck stops on the back view too. I think that construction really gives the bass it’s warm sound.
  6. Still go this if anyone’s up for it.
  7. I’ll keep my eyes peeled! You should also post in items wanted. Cheers!
  8. No probs let me know if I can help with anything else
  9. Yes quite easy to do with the filters https://www.basschat.co.uk/search/?q=Squire Jazz&type=forums_topic&nodes=19&updated_after=any&sortby=newest&search_and_or=and
  10. It's mostly because it's defined by pickup position rather than brand, so for example a P bass sound can be a Fender or an Ibanez, doesn't really mater it's the position that gives that ballpark character. Smith have (nearly) always used such unique and specific pickup placement that it has a completely different character which really sets it apart. That's not to say some basses can't do a 'Smith Sound' but I guess there are only so many ways you can place pickups and Smith did that first, or most successfully.
  11. Hm weird I'm just checking with @charic
  12. I can see how a graphite bass has a certain sound to it but I don't know if a Zon has a particular sound which is completely distinct to the brand, as they offer so many different configurations anyway - same with Status. But a Smith - they all sound basically the same and can be easily picked out, just like a Jazz or P or MM. IMO of course.
  13. I've left the club - Scott Devine has my bass now! I still think the Smith sound is one of the best and they're some of the most identifiable base out there in terms of sound and looks. IMO the big hitters which are easily identifiable by sound alone are Precision, Jazz, Stingray and Smith.
  14. Maybe best I don’t do it then! I’m pretty sure I’m playing it right but wouldn’t bet my life on it!
  15. Love this track, great to play along to. Fairly straightforward to work out, slap it in D if nobody responds with a tab I’ll do one for you at the wochenende
  16. Unless it's something I want, then I should be able to dictate whatever I like
  17. Yes - it’s the membership and community that’s trustworthy. And the fact that you have to pay for adverts makes sellers more genuine and we’ve had basically zero scams or spam since it was out in place.
  18. Two things that always get mentioned when talking about private sales on the internet: - ‘Caveat emptor’ - ‘Buy the seller’ All threads must have both by law!
  19. It’s up to the seller to chose a price they think is fair. If that’s double the original price then that’s up to them however it’s a risky strategy as anyone interested will be able to find the actual value and it’s also not certain the item will sell at that price anyway (obviously it didn’t the previous time...) So the best thing is to PM the seller with your feelings, as I agree it’s not quite cricket to do that here in the same way it would be find on eBay or whatever - and copy in a mod (not admin!) and go from there. As far as the public thread goes - saying nothing usually says it all. Unless you think someone is being scammed, then the seller can ask whatever they want. Whether they get it is another matter...
  20. Man some people really can’t stand slap bass can they!
  21. Easy way to check is that on a 70s spacing bass the rear pickup is in line with the tone control. On a 60s spacer the pickup is in line with the gap between the tone and rear pickup volume knob.
