Tbh he was one of my first influences. I actually really like his percussive technique and think his tone really works in Korn, with that clinky treble overriding everything else, cutting through quite a thick mix. Probably one of the first bass players I ‘noticed’ along with Mike Porcaro 👍🏼

Think it was just the fx25 not the later 25b. I’ve had loads of fx25s and some of them sounded bang on but they vary a lot!

Hey come on if everyone did that we’d have no Basschat!! On topic I must admit to feeling a unique sense of.. I’m not sure what the word is... comfort? - when playing a cheaper instrument and it sounding and feeling great. Conversely if I have an off day and I’m playing a 3K bass I kind of feel like I’m not good enough for the bass! One of the reasons I love my #1 bass is that it cost me relatively little, it’s been modified a lot over a fifteen year period and it’s seen off everything else I’ve had from the best regarded manufacturers on earth, so it makes me smile to know it owes me very little.

I don't think a pinned thread will work - people come and go, and it'll end up being inaccurate quite quickly, unless anyone who wanted to be involved updated you every month or so. Also pinning threads is the number one way to make sure it gets overlooked. I think the best method would be a forum where people wanting help post the from>to in the topic title and then leave it to people to work it out from there on a case by case basis.

You might find a used one cheaper - I've never gigged mine but don't think it would be a problem; it's plastic but pretty solid and as long as you set up everything to work for your own situation I think it would be fine.

All I know is I tried the iRig HD2 and there was noticeable latency when slapping or using percussive playing (my finger style tends to have quite a lot of ghosting and percussive element with the right hand) - not noticeable when playing along with something but just about there when solo. The company said there was some, about the same as with a wireless unit so negligible in any situation other than using headphones I should think.

And now you're in the same dilemma as me!! The best quality stuff is mains powered. The battery powered options are either power hungry (Bass Buddy), noisy (Zoom), Crap (Vox), or have no compression (Bighead). To be honest I make do with the Zoom B1on because I don't use it very often and when I do it's generally for playing along with something so the noise isn't an issue. It's also really light and the batteries last for ages especially with the screen light off. It's also mega cheap, so for £20 you really can't complain, it's amazing really.

Just to throw a spanner in the works - consider whether you want something that requires plugging in. Going back to your original post I doubt you’d want to have to move a power adapter about all the time. If you’re going to get something mains powered you might as well have a mixer. Also people rave about the iRig app with an iPad but I’ve always felt there’s too much latency to enjoy it.
