  1. I don’t really do Facebook any more but I just want to say that your reviews are the best out there and you are such a fantastic player, an ambassador for the instrument and bass players everywhere. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - Dood = Basschat royalty! 👸🏻
  2. TBH I think they're trying to pay it a compliment but in a roundabout way that also leaves the door open for people to have reasons to buy a Jazz bass instead. I still agree that the bass can't do modern hi-fi slap sounds but it can definitely produce a sweet slap sound all of it's own. After that, I guess it comes down to the author's opinion of what 'full on', 'boomy' and 'grunt' mean. I've seen worse.
  3. I agree to an extent - it certainly doesn’t do a super modern zingy slap sound, but that’s not to say it isn’t massively versatile.
  4. IMO it’s rare to find a bass that’s perfect for recording AND live use. I’d nothing else it’s a good excuse to have two ‘number one’ basses in your stable.
  5. Never tried an L2000 or any of the similar humbucker type models (I’m a bit unsure about the model numbers and types) but all I know is that after trying and having different P basses, nothing can touch this early SB1 - I don’t know how much they were new but like said above it’s fantastic build quality, the three bolt neck is great and the electronics and hardware really make it a sensible upgrade over the Fender Precision which is what I suppose it was intended to be. It’s basically the same but just a little more refined and it feels lovely. I do agree that the new headstock shame is a little jarring and I think it’s right that they are quite rare basses considering - even in the US they aren’t that common but sought out by those ‘in the know’, so there are some bargains for sure. The best type of bargain - because you’re not paying for hype!
  6. Good ramble, well said and I agree with everything you put.
  7. Freudian slip!! I never feel like selling up. Certainly not because of lack of gigs or band. I haven’t played in a gigging band for years but don’t miss that. I don’t often do studio playing but still do sometimes. In between my basses give me immense pleasure for playing along with music at home, looking after, setting up and generally fiddling with.
  8. I’ve never kept a bass which relied on the pre for its sound so if a batt dies I’m more than happy to switch to passive - in fact all my current actives sound the same in passive (with everything centred) so I’d only use the active EQ to adjust on-the-fly but could easily do without.
  9. @PJ-Bassist here's the reply from Eurosender - it looks like a hard case is not required (but advised):
  10. Here you go. The forum isn’t visible until you make at least one post; we did that to stop this one idiot from spamming people all the time (it worked!) Cheers
  11. Quite possibly, but unfortunately I am, by definition, a bit crap at them
  12. Awesome bass. If I ever have a J style bass again I think it’ll be a GB Spitfire. I’ve come so close to owning one several times but haven’t quite found one yet - most seem to be five string. Enjoy it!!
  13. Yeah I’ll get to writing my memoirs soon. The film rights are available if anyone wants to bid. I’ll be played by Adrian Brody (similar sized nose)
  14. Yes I remember you telling me, and others have had similar experiences. You don’t happen to know the owners contact details?
  15. I started the site in about 2002 as Bassworld and since then it’s evolved and changed lots of times and had different names along the way! I’ll write a full history of the site at some point for the history books! It’s quite a story actually for a few reasons, up to and including an FBI takedown!
  16. I’ve asked my contact there to double check. If so they might need to change their T&Cs so I assume it’s ok without a case if you’re willing to risk it. I’ll let you know what he says 👍🏼
  17. Providing a facility for people to argue about planks of wood with strings on (Basschat)
  18. You’d be awesome on a winch though
  19. Yeah maybe. I’m looking forward to a reply to my email, assuming their ‘recruitment’ people are able to use non-template emails!
