  1. Last time I was there a bunch of teenagers took me and my friends to an abandoned garage somewhere near the fish market and there’s was a huge party! Quite a pleasant surprise because I was getting ready for a ‘Taken’ type scenario which with hindsight would have been awesome too I’ll get back to you RE the address thing once I’m at my computer. 👍🏼
  2. I think not but I’ll check again later. You could put the part about having moved at the top of the first post in bold for now, perhaps. I love Copenhagen! Cheers Chris
  3. 3.5 for me. Vigier Passion Series II 1988 (It’s my graphite slap machine) Ken Smith BT4 1984 (my Hi-Fi bass) G&L SB1 1991 (my flatwound P non Hi-Fi bass) Wingbass 16” (my little synth machine and chill out bass)
  4. I think modern amps tend to have a cleaner sound with more headroom and they allow people to hear their flats better than ever - they don't/shouldn't sound just like 'dead' strings, they have a rich and deep sound that is better reproduced by a modern HiFi amp in my experience. I actually find the treble component essential in making a great flat sound because the strings produce some bright clank which gives some definition, if you let it.
  5. Do you say that about every Fender copy, too?
  6. Ken banned me from his forum because he thought my surname (Hiscocks) ‘sounded like a pornstar’. He was able to see the funny side after I provided proof but still changed my username - I can’t remember what to, so I can’t log in now and I’m too scared to ask
  7. Yes that’s a great summary. There’s so much interesting history behind these early pioneers it’s interesting to read how things developed and who fell out with whom on the way. Although Ken has presented the story as he sees it he doesn’t ever actually state that he doesn’t like Vinnie any more but in my opinion he has a point about customers paying for the strange hold a ‘Made In New York’ stamp attracts. It’s evident from the misinformation out there about the ‘first 200’ basses, people on Talkbass instantly saying the basses were ‘made by vinnie’ as if that’s better than one of Ken’s - Ken has stated time and time again that Vinnie did some of the woodwork on some of the first 200, and even so, I think Ken is the master craftsman anyway - don’t get me wrong, his personality does sound typical New York straight talking but as I’ve stated before I don’t care if he’s a serial murderer because his basses have such a unique sound and feel. I’ve only played about six Smiths and owned two, but they are so consistent they have all sounded pretty much exactly the same, to me - and it’s an instantly recognisable sound on a record, as is a Jazz or Precision. Should we try and arrange a Ken + Vinnie peace summit, maybe invite them both to a swanky restaurant at the same time 😆. I can only imagine it would send the internet wild! Maybe in the pizza shop which used to be the original workshop? It’s probably quite instagrammable and I bet Ken’s into that 🤣
  8. Any interesting threads? And how was your evening! Just a snap of a pretty ideal pair:
  9. Yeah probably - it's available in lots of different sizes.
  10. Hi guys just a quick tip I found. If you’re filing down the string saddle on your bass, a really good method is to use this ‘abrasive cord’ - pick the correct gauge and pass it through the string groove until you reach the desired height. Works really well and leaves a smooth surface. I recently used some on my G&L and it worked a treat. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mitchell-Abrasives-Abrasive-Aluminum-Diameter/dp/B000RELOT0 Cheerio ped
  11. I’ve been away in an isolated cabin in Wales for the last week or so; normally I take my Wingbass but with an 8 month old son I quickly found the car was packed to the brim so had to go bassless. As soon as I got home (well, as soon as the boy was asleep!) I couldn’t wait to play this again... it’s so great to get everything set up and sounding great then leave it alone for a week, come back and and play again.
  12. To get the access to listings you have to go through our payment system in one way or another. If you can’t make payment via card or PayPal I can accept a cheque and give you a voucher code to use so you can go through our checkout process without needing a card. It’s £20 though; £18 is the reduced renewal price the following year. Drop me a PM if you’d like to do that! Cheers P.S the software glitch has been fixed now so this particular problem is solved! ✅
  13. Like people who put a plastic bowl in the sink
  14. It’ll come out automatically if you chose that option. Otherwise there’s an orange button in the email which should take you to the correct page here https://www.basschat.co.uk/clients/purchases/ You can click ‘renew now’ Thanks ped
  15. They say ‘actual price is £3500’ in the ad and make it sound like they didn’t put £1 on purpose. We’ve had some classics recently, one guy even said ‘it’s not £50 it’s £750 but it asked me to pay if I put that’
  16. £18 to renew an existing £20 sub. Most people also see the sub as a kind of ‘thank you’ which is nice, and the good people far outweigh the scammers. It annoys me when they get through though because it makes a mockery of those who pay and pierces our safe little ecosystem which we’ve developed over the years!
  17. Strangely enough they never reply to the PM I usually send! Everyone who does it gets a warning which stays on record and after two goes their content gets moderated before it appears on the site. Some own up and apologise, others scuttle back off to gumtree or Facebook 😝 good riddance.
  18. Hi folks As you know, items priced at £50 and under are free to post here. Recently we introduced some code that means anything listed under the threshold has to be approved first, because in the past we’ve seen scammers listing basses worth thousands for £1 just so they can avoid paying the fee. The fee protects you as customers - if a seller is dishonest enough to defraud our system we don’t expect them to be great people to deal with. Currently there’s a gap in the code where items posted at exactly £50 are free and may pass by the filter, too. Today I’ve had to stop three idiots trying to evade payment this way. Often people have commented on the thread before I’ve been able to take it down. Could you help out by clicking ‘report post’ instead, so I can get rid? I’ve asked for the gap to be plugged ASAP so hopefully this won’t be for long. Lets try and keep the marketplace free of these types of people please! Cheers ped
  19. That’s a good read and I agree with everything you said. Especially how much ‘weight’ there is behind the notes. Plucking an open string in this feels like it vibrates your whole body, yet it’s smooth and high fidelity. I always played it passive to be honest - sometimes engaging the pre if I wanted something extra or to tone down. I think the mark of an excellent bass is that it sounds perfect flat or bypassed. Take good care of the bass and enjoy it
  20. I suppose a good analogy would be to say it’s like writing - you can write without your hand touching the page at all but you have more fine control when you rest the side of your hand on the page. Kind of feels like that.
  21. All it does is raise the surface of the bass closer to the strings. It’s all about feel. If you’ve played neck thru basses all your life going to a bolt on you can feel like the strings are miles away from the body, for example. For most of us we already use the pickups as a kind of ramp - and thumbrest. It doesn’t interfere with pooping as you’ll probably pop near the neck and the ramp tends to be further back between the pickups although some fret less basses have them at the neck too to give you more of a double bass feel. The benefit will vary from player to player - it might help you play more quickly or it could have the opposite effect depending on the player.
