If you’re ordering from abroad, be careful using PayPal.

Love a bit of transferwise -
If the Benton has the same comp as the DI pedal they do, it’s noisy and horrible.

Yes a lot of the used stuff is sold on commission. Perhaps the market is a little down at the moment as many are sold by our European friends and some might hold off until next year.

The “other” (American) bass related conversation site.

We took lots of ideas from TB but left some others out - for example I still don’t like the ‘supporting member’ system because it creates a sort of two tier class system where supporting members tend to feel their opinion is more important. -

The site was the inspiration for this one and there’s a huge amount of experience and some great people on there. With any site that size you’re going to get some arses who like the sound of their own voice but imo if you ask a good question and don’t give them any room for stupid replies to generally can find what you need.- 195 replies

This - a Sadowsky sounds like a Sadowsky with the preamp flat, the pre amp is just an EQ like any other. Plugging a thunderbird into a Sadowsky preamp will give you a thunderbird sound with some bass and treble controls. IMO a great bass sounds great with the pre bypassed, then it’s there for fine adjustment.

Is it possible to change the location of my for sale item?
ped replied to Dirty Soul's question in Site Issues and Questions
Last time I was there a bunch of teenagers took me and my friends to an abandoned garage somewhere near the fish market and there’s was a huge party! Quite a pleasant surprise because I was getting ready for a ‘Taken’ type scenario which with hindsight would have been awesome too I’ll get back to you RE the address thing once I’m at my computer. 👍🏼 -

I think not but I’ll check again later. You could put the part about having moved at the top of the first post in bold for now, perhaps. I love Copenhagen! Cheers Chris -
3.5 for me. Vigier Passion Series II 1988 (It’s my graphite slap machine) Ken Smith BT4 1984 (my Hi-Fi bass) G&L SB1 1991 (my flatwound P non Hi-Fi bass) Wingbass 16” (my little synth machine and chill out bass)

I think modern amps tend to have a cleaner sound with more headroom and they allow people to hear their flats better than ever - they don't/shouldn't sound just like 'dead' strings, they have a rich and deep sound that is better reproduced by a modern HiFi amp in my experience. I actually find the treble component essential in making a great flat sound because the strings produce some bright clank which gives some definition, if you let it.

Do you say that about every Fender copy, too?

Ken banned me from his forum because he thought my surname (Hiscocks) ‘sounded like a pornstar’. He was able to see the funny side after I provided proof but still changed my username - I can’t remember what to, so I can’t log in now and I’m too scared to ask

Yes that’s a great summary. There’s so much interesting history behind these early pioneers it’s interesting to read how things developed and who fell out with whom on the way. Although Ken has presented the story as he sees it he doesn’t ever actually state that he doesn’t like Vinnie any more but in my opinion he has a point about customers paying for the strange hold a ‘Made In New York’ stamp attracts. It’s evident from the misinformation out there about the ‘first 200’ basses, people on Talkbass instantly saying the basses were ‘made by vinnie’ as if that’s better than one of Ken’s - Ken has stated time and time again that Vinnie did some of the woodwork on some of the first 200, and even so, I think Ken is the master craftsman anyway - don’t get me wrong, his personality does sound typical New York straight talking but as I’ve stated before I don’t care if he’s a serial murderer because his basses have such a unique sound and feel. I’ve only played about six Smiths and owned two, but they are so consistent they have all sounded pretty much exactly the same, to me - and it’s an instantly recognisable sound on a record, as is a Jazz or Precision. Should we try and arrange a Ken + Vinnie peace summit, maybe invite them both to a swanky restaurant at the same time 😆. I can only imagine it would send the internet wild! Maybe in the pizza shop which used to be the original workshop? It’s probably quite instagrammable and I bet Ken’s into that 🤣

Yeah probably - it's available in lots of different sizes.

Hi guys just a quick tip I found. If you’re filing down the string saddle on your bass, a really good method is to use this ‘abrasive cord’ - pick the correct gauge and pass it through the string groove until you reach the desired height. Works really well and leaves a smooth surface. I recently used some on my G&L and it worked a treat. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mitchell-Abrasives-Abrasive-Aluminum-Diameter/dp/B000RELOT0 Cheerio ped

I’ve been away in an isolated cabin in Wales for the last week or so; normally I take my Wingbass but with an 8 month old son I quickly found the car was packed to the brim so had to go bassless. As soon as I got home (well, as soon as the boy was asleep!) I couldn’t wait to play this again... it’s so great to get everything set up and sounding great then leave it alone for a week, come back and and play again.

To get the access to listings you have to go through our payment system in one way or another. If you can’t make payment via card or PayPal I can accept a cheque and give you a voucher code to use so you can go through our checkout process without needing a card. It’s £20 though; £18 is the reduced renewal price the following year. Drop me a PM if you’d like to do that! Cheers P.S the software glitch has been fixed now so this particular problem is solved! ✅
