  1. I find a lot of modern 'Funk' like that. I recently found a list of the top 20 funk albums of 2018 and nearly all of them have low-fi recording technique to make it sound 'funky' - which of course does the opposite.
  2. I must admit the music leaves me a bit cold, too. I love funky playing but it’s like Vulf try and be SO retro/hipster that it puts me off. That and he’s better than me and that’s not fair.
  3. Whatever the reason, it was a valid question that didn’t need the silly answer. OP, let me know if you’d like these comments scrubbed from your thread 👍🏼
  4. It’ll be to help balance. One of my basses has one in the normal place and another further down as standard (Smith) and using the lower one really helps position the bass in the right place. The strap kind of sits differently and somehow it makes the bass ‘rotate’ a little towards you, too.
  5. Stay right where you are
  6. Playing an octave up actually sounds great and you can hear yourself really well over your backing. I thought it would sound weedy but in fact it’s quite the opposite. I’m not a solo player one bit and my Wing is a full on groove machine. The sound is very hifi and rich. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it with a band but yes I look at it as an instrument in its own right. When I’m practicing it’s not playing standard bass lines, I’m noodling and grooving and the ability to get a great low action makes the Wingbass the best option for me. The spacing means transferring to a full scale five string feels the same.
  7. Well luckily I’ve already got one but I think importing one would be scary, I’d rather let a shop take the risk! Yes Bass Direct sometimes have some in stock and The Gallery have some, too - they’ve got a beautiful four string in at the moment, a really old one. https://thebassgallery.com/products/ken-smith-bt4
  8. I haven’t taken my Wingbass abroad yet but will do so soon. I took it on our annual holiday to Wales last year and it was brilliant to have to noodle on whilst sitting in my hammock watching Sybil playing with the cows. The size makes it perfect for travel; I think the original concept was to make a hand luggage sized bass for flying (hence the name)
  9. Exactly this Actually the coating is very expensive and a closely guarded secret (Elixir won’t even let me visit their factory because they also do military applications of the Gore coating there). Given the tech in these strings and how long they lash, I think the price stacks up well in comparison to others.
  10. Excellent. Yes it’s a shame they’re so hard to get hold of in the UK, I think for a long time they had no UK distributor/importer and I’m not sure they still do, maybe Bass Direct? but the chances of people trying one are fairly slim unless you see a second hand one for sale.
  11. As I said on the KS thread, that looks like a beautiful bass... where did you get it from?
  12. Lovely wood figuring on that. Too many strings for me but I bet it sounds amazing.
  13. That's a bit nice
  14. Sounds reet good!
  15. My problem is that jobs like this really interest me but the way they're worded makes me feel massively de-skilled. By that I mean that I think I could do many of the jobs I think it refers to but I have no formal qualifications in them, which presumably would put a stop to any potential application. I do find it surprising that 'startup' type companies often do this even though most of the people at the helm have followed a similarly unconventional less certificated path. It makes me think sometimes that you basically have to decide at 16 what you want to do for the rest of your life because if you try and change industry at a later date you won't have the experience and particular value alignments of the new post. I know that's not exactly it but I'm trying to explain how I feel about it. Although running this site has taught me a lot and I think developed my skills hugely, in my experience even if i word it in management speak, employers don't want to read the sort of language they use in their ads, and it's difficult to 'sell' skills you have but which haven't been accredited.
  16. Send it to me and I’ll do it for you
  17. Looks great. I have a bit of a case fetish so this is right up my street!!

And I dare say you will only see any difference in one piece of studio quality kit if the rest of the path is as good quality - so it’s all or nothing!

I should add that my laughing emoji is about the first part of your post, not the last part which sounds awful, sorry
  20. Im curious what sort of pain you experience when using a bassboard? I use mine all the time with headphones and for me it’s so much better than using an amp at home and worrying I’m annoying someone. If it’s pain from standing, why not put a chair on it. That’s what I do, it’s great!
  21. TC Polytune is amazing. They now do some without the ‘poly’ called the Unitune. Perfect for bass 👍🏼

@Jus Lukin is now owned and maintained by BAE Sound Ltd and is a prototype half man half walking studio compressor unit with two line inputs (one at each end). He is available for live work and can be booked to come to you so you can record the perfect bass sound from the comfort of your own home, all for the price of a Basschat Approved English Bassist Breakfast
  23. I also have another strap for my basses with Dunlop locks - this Ibanez strap is great, but didn’t really suit the P
  24. Ah yes sorry here’s the guy: I found it after looking for ‘leather guitar strap’ and going through tons of pages looking for what I wanted. Good thing about etsy is that if you see something vaguely similar most people will do you a one off. This was cheaper than his usual because it doesn’t have the tooling along the length. I think it was about £40 https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Zutopiart?ref=s2-header-shopname&listing_id=400603561
