Thanks for the FX list. I don’t get much/any noise when not playing so haven’t used the ZNR it’s more the digital noise under the notes. I’ll just have to try one.
-
This is worth highlighting separately because it basically sums up exactly the opposite of what I do with my life 😂
-
Still tempted with a B14 if it’s really less noisy. Guess the only way to know is to try one! Does it have that ‘ensemble’ effect from the B1on?
-
I see your point too. However playing bass is a hobby for me and I enjoy being able to tell the difference between two types of compressor or whatever it might be. If I just wanted to do what the lowest common denominator could ascertain then I’d probably enjoy playing a lot less. I think we’ve posted before that if you’re happy, you okay better. Whether that’s because you’ve simplified your rig and love that it’s easier and cheaper, that’s awesome. And I’ve done that too. But the audience factor very little in my rig decisions because like others have said, they wouldn’t notice if I played keyboard bass.
-
Why do we constantly judge what we do in relation to whether an average audience member will notice? Do you only wear shoes because other people do?
-
What have you tried so far? What’s your budget? Any examples of songs where you like the bass sound? We’re going to need more info as many of the things you describe are subjective and you’re only going to get people recommending what they use!
-
Not better, just different. EQ can’t mimic a pickup placement whatever you do to it!

Saw these guys live this week, it was absolutely fantastic. The guy playing saxophone and flute was just amazing and they had some extended jams. @bubinga5 think you should check them out 👍🏻

Big Patton fan here. Here's my fave piece of work so far:
-
Yes completely! I play my P bass very differently to my Smith. I deliberately keep them both because they sound, feel and play totally differently. Together they cover a lot of ground. The synth equipped basses are different again; obviously my mini bass is completely different and my Vigier feels like an old favourite jumper. The proof for me is that if I pick up a bass I don’t like (aesthetically or in feel) then I just don’t feel inspired to play anything in particular. Guess it’s like cars - I drive my big estate car quite differently to my previous saloon shaped one even though they have the same engine. You just pick up in the vibe from the object, be it bass, car, whatever. If there’s no vibe then I move on to something else.

Getting redirected to Samsung-super.com
ped replied to dannybuoy's question in Site Issues and Questions
I’ve put the ads back up last night so our publisher can track down the redirects and stop them. It shouldn’t take them long so if you still get them today just hang in there and I’ll update when it’s sorted. Cheers -
Is there a way to mark a read forum to unread?
ped replied to Osiris's question in Site Issues and Questions
There’s not, sorry - however soon it’ll fill up with new stuff. -
I bet you ordered 6mm shaft sized pots but the actual shafts are 6.35mm or 1/4”

Short Scale 'Thing' (23" scale Headless 4 string)
ped replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in Build Diaries
Interesting you say that. I tend to play mine with a totally different hand position, side on the bridge, and use three fingers and palm muting. I’m used to a really low action so I don’t find any issue with hammers but I’m using standard strings so probably just used to them. -

Les ‘built in’ and more ‘stuck on with foam tape’ 😂 -

At your service! 23” is far to long for me 😂 -
Mods: Could Bass For Sale threads be separated into 4 and 5+ strings?
ped replied to Bass Culture's topic in Site News
Very not. 😂 The problem being that it would require ads to have extra fields to be filtered into and you know how long it took us to get a location field sorted - it’s unbelievably complicated unless at some point the software providers add support for it at consumer level. -
Mods: Could Bass For Sale threads be separated into 4 and 5+ strings?
ped replied to Bass Culture's topic in Site News
They're searchable, and clicking on one will show other topics with the same tag. In a tagged thread. ones with similar tags will be shown in a preview on the RHS of the screen. I suppose also they're a quick way to highlight key things about a topic. They're designed and implemented by the people who make the software so we're limited in what we can do by their design, and it's not something important enough for us to break out and custom code for specific behaviour just yet. -

I don't think we can make tags mandatory so it's currently up to the seller to take advantage of them. However I am looking at adding one selling tips to payment receipts and will mention about using tags in there. -
I can't remember what happened to mine but I bought it from a session player in London. I remember getting the Oxford Tube coach to London and how I opened up the case on the way back to try it out, I just couldn't wait! It was a great bass - one knob was missing which had been replaced by an EHX type one from what looked like a Q-tron pedal but I did;t mind for some reason and left it. It was a PJ setup, barts. I still think that all my base shave been bought and sold as a result of that one - I haven't had to significantly dip into my bank account because that bass was the initial capital and I've traded well over the years. I must say I am not so fond of the MVP shape now - but back then I loved it. Funny how tastes change. The other bass I got from this guy was shell pink '57 RI Precision, again a good price and it was alright but somehow it just never worked for me and I sold that on quickly. I think I bought a Marleaux with the funds.

Episode 4 May 2019: Episode 4 contains a chat with bass player Jimmy Simms, who has played for Amy Macdonald, The Saturdays, Bryan Ferry, George Ezra and many many more. His touring and recording schedule is non-stop, and in this episode he talks with us about balancing work with family, being a gear nerd and accordion factories.

Anyone successfully jamming with mates over the internet?
ped replied to BassYerbouti's topic in Recording
You'd think the technology isn't far away through - latency shouldn't be an issue with enough bandwidth. Would be really great if it happened soon. In the meantime you can try collaboration sites where you download a song that needs bass and send it back. I used to do that a lot and really enjoyed it. -
If it’s going to be a player then I’d get whatever strings I like for it rather than making them part of the colour scheme, but if you like some with red silk that’s a bonus. I think the black/red/black scratch plate will be enough tbh. Looks great though, I really like grey.
