  1. Hi Graham, @Sibob talks about them in our podcast episode, have a listen
  2. Mark King gats a bad rap here but a lot of his playing is very laid back and groovy. The super fast stuff he does is normally just for show, because believe it or not a lot of his fans kind of want to see that side of it too.
  3. So? Still interesting, isn't it? Does playing bass matter? We're here to have fun, right?!
  4. Why not?
  5. With the retirement of Michael Pedulla, the shift in production of Ken Smith basses and the transition to the use of new apprentices by Vinnie Fodera etc I think we’ll see basses ‘made by the original’ becoming sought after, regardless of whether the instruments are any different. It’s happened before; isn’t there a ‘Dan Smith’ era fender from the 80s or something that for some reason is worth more? A lot of the innovators from the 70s/80s are retiring or dying and I don’t know if we’ll ever have that same era of ‘new’ ideas like that, on the same scale (although I’m all for innovation, collectors don’t think like that). So the basses will be worth more and newer ones take inspiration from them. So for a bass to be considered valuable in the future I’d say it would have to be made ‘in house’ by one of the original ‘masters’. Do you think a Sadowsky made by someone after Roger retires will be worth as much as one he made? Folks on TB are already saying that Smith basses from the ‘Ken era’ will be sought after, even though production has always been outsourced to some extent. Any plastic components will be valuable when we run out of oil
  6. I’d burn it
  7. Should also add that I’ve had passive basses louder than active ones and vice versa so I tend to use whichever input gives the best level regardless of the instrument ‘type’
  8. Depends if your pedals add gain to the signal. They shouldn’t, especially when bypassed.
  9. It’s a late 70s jazz, not a Rembrandt - get ‘em fixed 👍🏻
  10. Was tempted with a cutlass but it was a rip off IMO
  11. Yeah, just like that. Great clip 👍🏼
  12. To be honest I’m noticing more and more in the ‘soultronic’ genre I tend to listen to that groovy bass lines accented with popped and slapped notes are becoming more common.
  13. Looks like Pau Ferro to me
  14. I LOVE the sound of slap on a P with flats.
  15. Weird, I've been watching that exact clip for ages and have learned the tune - it's always on my YT recommended page!!

Just a thought, is there an option to tell it you’re using headphones rather than into an amplifier? I have that option in my Roland and it does make a huge difference. When you select headphones it’s quite different to the output to an amp. Makes sense to have that option - otherwise I guess you could make models specifically for each category, with cab sims off for cans...
  17. Personally I think Fieldy’s bass sound and playing are perfect for Korn.
  18. It’s funny how some see slap as a completely different way of playing. I mean it kind of is but I like my slapping to sound similar to when I dig in, and blend it in with normal playing. I think when people hear the word slap bass they think of super fast nail gun antics rather than something more subtle. Think about a John Entwistle’s typewriter technique. That’s basically slap.
  19. Great let us know how you like them. I think they’re great strings.
  20. They look really good 👍🏼
  21. Ah cool well then it’s all practice I’m afraid. I find sitting in front of the TV absent mindedly slapping an octave probably helps with timing. I’m even known to slap a desk when working. Start off with a simple slow pattern and try to maintain it for a while song.
  22. I do, tastefully 😂
  23. I love slap. Especially when it’s used sparingly, like a little pop here and there’s within a fingered line. Perhaps that’s the key - start throwing some slaps into normal bass lines to build up a better, smoother technique. Normally people rush it. Lay back with it and make it groove.
  24. They’re long enough for thru body stringing if you want to buy I can’t on my P.
