To be honest I can’t really member now. Perhaps someone tried replacing some faulty electronics and gave up! Roland system is amazing, I use it on my mini Bass too in my avatar. There’s no tracking issues because it acts just like a magnetic pickup, just processing each string separately. Most people incorrectly classify it as a MIDI system. I mean you can drive MIDI with it but then there’s tracking and latency issues. I use mine with a Roland VB99 which I think everyone’s here is sick of hearing about
  4. Check this out http://www.garywillis.com/pages/bass/bassmanual/setupmanual.html In short, the truss rod adjusts the relief which is how much bow is in the neck. Action is the height if the strings set at the bridge. Both do different things and can produce different results. A rattle on a single note however may be because a fret needs levelling. One way to check if frets are level is to use a credit card to see if it rocks on a high fret. Edit to add - if it plays perfectly everywhere else, and by last fret you mean up near the body, I’d leave it.
  5. Think I'll stick to my pleasure board - but it look interesting. I presume it's powered by some kind of adapter which would be a bit of a pain, I hate having wires attached to me.
  6. They aren’t in the same place as the standard knobs would be so I assume is something to do with holding the ROM unit in place. Possibly magnetic? Anyway I believe this bass is now sold

The bass was actually found without any electronics in it, so it was just a bare 'chassis' of body/neck, so although I rate the Vigier pickups very highly, the setup in this one is different as I couldn't;t find any pickups on their own. So - it has Basstec humbuckers (as opposed to single coils as standard) and a Marleaux 3 band pre-amp, where the stacked bass/treb has been separated into two controls. Ages ago when I started Bassworld (the site before Basschat) a bloke in Australia made the pickup surround for me. Finally, I installed a Roland GK system and pickup.

Thanks, this is the one I've had the longest (about 12 years now?), and probably the bass most people will recognise as mine. Lots of mods but a superb, even sound.

Hmm. I can see one of those in my future soon. I don't think I've seen a purple one, so look forward to pics of that... Inspired by your picture, I just opened a bottle of '65 and gave mine a polish!!
  10. The bit on the back is slotted into place, then the knob on the front cycles between six presets available on that module. Originally, there would have been other modules available which you could swap for more sounds. The idea was taken forward and built into later instruments, albeit with only one built in module. Very flexible and fantastic sound.

Excellent - I'm tempted to bring one of my old Arpege basses to the show after I missed the chance of showing it to Patrice himself a few years ago. I showed him a picture of it and he said 'Thank you for looking after it' which I thought was pretty legendary.

Why bother with bedding when you can be playing that sweet bass!! I'll definitely come and have a go. Looks great. I agree that the necks on these feel amazing. My friend bought a Vigier Excalibur guitar based on the neck of one of these, and the neck on the guitar is so nice even I can play it.
  13. I only play mine in an anti gravity vacuum (which has the added bonus of nobody being able to hear me)
  14. Love it. I was subjected to 50 Shades the other week and I haven’t been quite the same since.
  15. I think you can put them in the oven, but even then they'll essentially absorb moisture right away and become useless again within a day or so. Normally they're in packets of items that are sealed airtight at the factory and so they can be of use to absorb any condensation as the parcel moves inside and out.
  16. I used to hang mine, too - but for some reason I still don't like doing it.
  17. Those silica packets aren't much good after they've been exposed, either - unless you heat them to 300 every few days to reset them.
  18. To make it work we have to customise the default software which is no easy task. However we have recently started a mirrored forum which were using to test such mods before rolling them out in the live site. We’ve just installed the marketplace section and tested it so the mods will start soon, and as soon as we can confirm it works, it’ll be live here.
  19. I use Dunlop 65 on my poly finished basses, and WD40 on the fingerboards when I change strings (graphite necks) which makes them come up all nice and shiny. My other bass has a natural Tung Oil finish and apparently a wipe with a damp cloth is all that's needed, though I'm open to any suggestions as to a 'one shot' product I can use.
  20. ...whilst watching Moonraker! My pleasure Jack
  21. Hi there. Old subs in the old software I can manually look up and find when you paid. In the new site you can see how long you have left when you list an item (it says the expiry above the ‘price’ field, which is nice. I’ll find your old sub expiry now and PM you the details. Cheers

  25. Hi Greg I too like low tension and 40-95s and find Elixirs have the best feel, plus super long life.
