1. Cheers chaps. One limitation is that I can't mount the outputs on the side as that section rests on your leg when playing. I did toy with the idea of the inputs coming out of the front edge which would probably work really well so perhaps we'll look at that possibility on Tuesday. Yeah the Sandberg looks lovely. I already have the GK system in my main bass after years of having it clamped to the bass externally. That bass is a steal with the system installed. Unfortunately most people have just never tried it, and those that have often are trying it with MIDI which isn't the point in it - the GK system is not midi. Everyone says it is, but it's not. Andy, the owner at Wingbass, has been really helpful and is very interested in the project.
2. OK it's going in on Tuesday for the GK install, it'll take a couple of days. I've been deciding on the layout I'll go with. I have to take into account the amount of space as though the bass may require routing to sink the pickup into the body a bit it would be easier to do without routing the control cavity if possible. Here are some designs. I normally don't bother installing the GK/Mix/magnetic switch because it's not useful on all GK interfaces; on the VB99 I can choose that on the unit, so no need. I also don't normally use the LED which glows red when the GK is active. These designs should all work - the GK 13 pin output is attached to some circuit board and clearance may be an issue so if it can't be mounted neatly like in pic 4 I'll have the plate put on so it sits a bit higher (pic 1,2,3). We could use a wooden plate instead of the black plastic one maybe. In pic 1 and 2 I have done away with the bass master volume (could just leave it in the cavity) as I don't really use it and the GK knob can be assigned to cut the signal right at the end of it's travel anyway if needed. If there's room though I'll keep it (pic 3/4) The 'up/down' buttons are also optional but I like having them. Not sure on placement; to some extent it'll depend on where the main circuit board fits in the back but I quite like the look of both designs - they're all within easy reach when playing... probably nearer the bridge is easier, actually. I'll update as I work my way along! Cheers ped P.s I hope you like my crap photoshop skillz
3. Yep fusion bags for me. I did a review of their double gigbag here somewhere. You can customise the inside to fit your bass exactly. Also if you're going to wear it the straps and waist strap mean it's really comfortable and wears in the right position.
4. You're on eBay this evening again I see! My gran used to say wind cheater but as a child I thought she was saying 'wind sheeter'. I also thought a dressing gown was called a 'dressing down' Anyway, as you were.
5.
the offcuts make great nut files and pipe cleaners
Ah but my basses all have a zero fret and my house is a rental so I'm not to concerned about the pipes! Any other suggestions?
6. Most of being a professional musician is your attitude. I think Lionel Richie said 10% aptitude 90% attitude.
7. Thanks. It seems double ball end strings are a standard length (makes sense) which is just about too short for my purpose but never mind. I ended up getting some of my favourite Elixirs and cut the rest off, which seems a waste but can't be helped!
8. There's a mobility scooter for sale here today - is someone getting rid of evidence?
9.
Sounds like one of those 'special' acquisitions, ped. Great stuff. I'm really looking forward to the progress with the GK system...
Cheers Andy yeah you could say that. It's fun because it feels like a different instrument altogether, yet when I switch back to full sized basses, as I just did now it feels absolutely normal, as the string spacing and the 'feel' is the same. News on the GK front - it might be happening next week, there's a chap local to me I may go and see.
10. It's taken me a while to work out what strings are on this bass... I assumed they were normal 5 string sizes (as they are from the factory) but I realised my B string was thinner than on my full sized 5er. After some experimentation I found they are in fact 'standard' gauge EADG and a high C. This means whilst the scale length is reduced the string gauge can be dropped with the same tuning which is why they feel so nice to play. I've now put my fave Elixirs on it (though on my 'full size' basses I use the 'super light') and it's sounding brilliant. I experimented with dropping the bottom B to an A and it feels really good like that, too. In other news I also bought a mini guitar stand from gear4music I replaced the plastic 'T' shape body support with a foam ball, as it didn't fit well between the neck and cutaway, but now it works a treat. Then I got my Lakota Leather strap and decided it was a bit too wide for such a small bass. With heart in mouth, a long steel ruler and a stanley knife I cut it down to 1.5 inches wide. Now it really looks great on the bass and helps hold it in position. The width of the strap really doesn't affect the comfort as the bass weighs so little anyway. Chris at Alpher is still going to install the GK system for me but I have to wait until he's finished moving his workshop. I expect it'll be done by the end of the year, anyway. There's no rush. I'm really enjoying this a bass, honestly I haven't played my full sized ones since getting it. It's just so 'handy' to grab and play, and it sounds brilliant. It's got a stingray-esque low end with a more natural singing top end, and with the 'Ken Smith' style upper midrange clank when digging in. When I'm playing it I completely forget it's a 'mini' bass.
11.
You can find them over here for around 1.000 to 1.500 Euros / GBP. So it's not cheap at all considering the import duties. The preamp is a 10 pre-defined parametric EQ with 3 positions gain plus volume, tone and pickup selector : it is fine if you like the sound à la Alembic. Here is the link to the user manual : http://www.vigiergui...uals/bfvp4m.htm And yes these are terrific basses, but before buying check the neck as there is absolutely no trussrod on these early birds...
No, definitely not cheap - a really good one might be around this price but as you say import duty would be about £400 on top. Maybe we should wait until Brexit negotiations have finished! FYI the pre-amp in this model is slightly different from the later programmable one. You have a pickup selector switch with a volume behind it, then a small switch with a 15db cut or boost of the frequency selected on the knob behind that, which goes from something like 80hz to 5200khz, then a tone control which sweeps right up into a treble boost around 8khz. A similar and better condition one with a walnut body sold here for £1500 recently http://basschat.co.uk/topic/309105-sold-vigier-passion-2-1989-model/page__p__3340324__hl__vigier__fromsearch__1#entry3340324
12. I know there are some other Vigier fans out there so here's a nice one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332368499528 The seller says the truss rod works well, which is great. Even though it doesn't have one...
13. I'd try contacting a leatherworker on Etsy. There are several who will make things to order and you could send the old handle for them to use as a template.
14. For the time being, we're stuck with the software we have. The new software will be much more customisable and we've already experimented with custom categories. Watch this space
15. Well it's not the best demo video in the world I found the vid - here it is. http://youtu.be/VbvauzmnBfw I ordered one for travelling a couple of days ago so will let you know what it's like. Can't be any worse than the vox amplug it's replacing!

17.
Nellie is a legend.
She bloody is mate
18. If the bass came with a specific case (branded or fitted) then I keep it and it lives in the garage wrapped in cling film. Then I have a double gig bag inside because I rarely take more than two basses anywhere (except for a Bass Bash!) In terms of storage IN the house, I have a three bass 'flight case' style case which sits in my office; it takes up less space than a 3 bass 'rack' and looks nice. Generic hard cases I tend to move on, though. Gave the last two away to the school. Talking of staffies and hard cases, though - when my parents came to stay we blocked the stairs with a flight case as Nellie had just had some medicine for her poorly leg and we didn't want her jumping up or down from the bed. In the morning, she was on my bed but the case was still across the stairs.. she'd jumped it and cleared it no worries. Combined with the first step we're talking about a meter standing jump on a slippery wooden floor!!!
19. Looks like a neat travel headphone practice tool. Anyone know of something like his with built in reverb? That would be my ideal unit.
20. Some neat design touches on that. Nice
21. In that case it's the wrong link. Grab the 'direct' link that should end in the file type. I don't use Google Drive so perhaps someone who does may know how best to access it.

Lovely bass and he Roland system is the icing on the cake. These basses feel great.
23. For example it will look like this but remember no spaces after the square bracket. I can't put it without the space as the code will try and show a pic [ img]http:www.examplepic/3345573.jpg[ /img]
24.
Ped, I'm using google drive to host my pics. I can paste in a url which works fine, but I'm not getting a thumbnail in the text of the post as you are. Any idea why? Thanks.
Hi mate try putting these around the link - [ img] at the start, then the link, no spaces - then [ /img] at the end. Alternatively if you use the full reply editor there's a shortcut button in the toolbar which looks like a little picture - paste the link in there and that'll work. Good luck
25.
Ditto My post on Monday for two ACGs F/S disappeared :-( This could be the cause of the 'nothing sells on BC' problem
Send me a PM, we'll sort it
