1.
Sounds like one of those 'special' acquisitions, ped. Great stuff. I'm really looking forward to the progress with the GK system...
Cheers Andy yeah you could say that. It's fun because it feels like a different instrument altogether, yet when I switch back to full sized basses, as I just did now it feels absolutely normal, as the string spacing and the 'feel' is the same. News on the GK front - it might be happening next week, there's a chap local to me I may go and see.
2. It's taken me a while to work out what strings are on this bass... I assumed they were normal 5 string sizes (as they are from the factory) but I realised my B string was thinner than on my full sized 5er. After some experimentation I found they are in fact 'standard' gauge EADG and a high C. This means whilst the scale length is reduced the string gauge can be dropped with the same tuning which is why they feel so nice to play. I've now put my fave Elixirs on it (though on my 'full size' basses I use the 'super light') and it's sounding brilliant. I experimented with dropping the bottom B to an A and it feels really good like that, too. In other news I also bought a mini guitar stand from gear4music I replaced the plastic 'T' shape body support with a foam ball, as it didn't fit well between the neck and cutaway, but now it works a treat. Then I got my Lakota Leather strap and decided it was a bit too wide for such a small bass. With heart in mouth, a long steel ruler and a stanley knife I cut it down to 1.5 inches wide. Now it really looks great on the bass and helps hold it in position. The width of the strap really doesn't affect the comfort as the bass weighs so little anyway. Chris at Alpher is still going to install the GK system for me but I have to wait until he's finished moving his workshop. I expect it'll be done by the end of the year, anyway. There's no rush. I'm really enjoying this a bass, honestly I haven't played my full sized ones since getting it. It's just so 'handy' to grab and play, and it sounds brilliant. It's got a stingray-esque low end with a more natural singing top end, and with the 'Ken Smith' style upper midrange clank when digging in. When I'm playing it I completely forget it's a 'mini' bass.
3.
You can find them over here for around 1.000 to 1.500 Euros / GBP. So it's not cheap at all considering the import duties. The preamp is a 10 pre-defined parametric EQ with 3 positions gain plus volume, tone and pickup selector : it is fine if you like the sound à la Alembic. Here is the link to the user manual : http://www.vigiergui...uals/bfvp4m.htm And yes these are terrific basses, but before buying check the neck as there is absolutely no trussrod on these early birds...
No, definitely not cheap - a really good one might be around this price but as you say import duty would be about £400 on top. Maybe we should wait until Brexit negotiations have finished! FYI the pre-amp in this model is slightly different from the later programmable one. You have a pickup selector switch with a volume behind it, then a small switch with a 15db cut or boost of the frequency selected on the knob behind that, which goes from something like 80hz to 5200khz, then a tone control which sweeps right up into a treble boost around 8khz. A similar and better condition one with a walnut body sold here for £1500 recently http://basschat.co.uk/topic/309105-sold-vigier-passion-2-1989-model/page__p__3340324__hl__vigier__fromsearch__1#entry3340324
4. I know there are some other Vigier fans out there so here's a nice one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332368499528 The seller says the truss rod works well, which is great. Even though it doesn't have one...
5. I'd try contacting a leatherworker on Etsy. There are several who will make things to order and you could send the old handle for them to use as a template.
6. For the time being, we're stuck with the software we have. The new software will be much more customisable and we've already experimented with custom categories. Watch this space
7. Well it's not the best demo video in the world I found the vid - here it is. http://youtu.be/VbvauzmnBfw I ordered one for travelling a couple of days ago so will let you know what it's like. Can't be any worse than the vox amplug it's replacing!
8. Tecamp/Eich Bassboard http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Eich_Bass_boards.html
9.
Nellie is a legend.
She bloody is mate
10. If the bass came with a specific case (branded or fitted) then I keep it and it lives in the garage wrapped in cling film. Then I have a double gig bag inside because I rarely take more than two basses anywhere (except for a Bass Bash!) In terms of storage IN the house, I have a three bass 'flight case' style case which sits in my office; it takes up less space than a 3 bass 'rack' and looks nice. Generic hard cases I tend to move on, though. Gave the last two away to the school. Talking of staffies and hard cases, though - when my parents came to stay we blocked the stairs with a flight case as Nellie had just had some medicine for her poorly leg and we didn't want her jumping up or down from the bed. In the morning, she was on my bed but the case was still across the stairs.. she'd jumped it and cleared it no worries. Combined with the first step we're talking about a meter standing jump on a slippery wooden floor!!!
11. Looks like a neat travel headphone practice tool. Anyone know of something like his with built in reverb? That would be my ideal unit.
12. Some neat design touches on that. Nice
13. In that case it's the wrong link. Grab the 'direct' link that should end in the file type. I don't use Google Drive so perhaps someone who does may know how best to access it.

Lovely bass and he Roland system is the icing on the cake. These basses feel great.
15. For example it will look like this but remember no spaces after the square bracket. I can't put it without the space as the code will try and show a pic [ img]http:www.examplepic/3345573.jpg[ /img]
16.
Ped, I'm using google drive to host my pics. I can paste in a url which works fine, but I'm not getting a thumbnail in the text of the post as you are. Any idea why? Thanks.
Hi mate try putting these around the link - [ img] at the start, then the link, no spaces - then [ /img] at the end. Alternatively if you use the full reply editor there's a shortcut button in the toolbar which looks like a little picture - paste the link in there and that'll work. Good luck
17.
Ditto My post on Monday for two ACGs F/S disappeared :-( This could be the cause of the 'nothing sells on BC' problem
Send me a PM, we'll sort it
18.
I'd look for camera pouches, bound to be one out there with a belt clip/loop. I just keep mine on the desk though and don't have a need to attach it to me.
As a home practice setup it could be quite neat, sitting on a desk etc, no problem, but I'd only want it for when I'm NOT at my desk, where I already have a Roland headphone setup with Bassboard etc. I think this is where the problem lies; most manufacturers believe that at home we all play our rigs and only use headphones when at a desk when everyone is asleep, and that it's second best to the former. I MUCH prefer playing through headphones with the vibrating platform under my chair - I can get the perfect sound and feel without causing any outside noise, so no worries about annoying anyone and a much cleaner sound than using speakers plus all the ins and outs I could want, for recording, playing along with music, Youtube etc... I'm totally cut off from the outside world, as my wife will agree much to her annoyance. Normally when something needs doing at home.
19.
I wasn't being serious
Ah lol well you had me looking at the device online and thinking 'hmm I wonder' - but yeah it's probably a bit heavy then. As for the belt clip idea - that's what I've got now on my Nobels thing but it's still a bit of a faff compared to simply plugging into the jack, really. I don't always take a strap if I'm traveling and/or noodling in front of the TV. Even when I do, it adds weight to the strap and feels a bit cumbersome. Come on people give us what we want!
20. Hi chaps Bit of a nightmare yesterday. A mod (who shall remain anonymous) deleted a whole page of ads by accident. I spent all yesterday putting back any I could find but there are probably still some missing. Please PM me if yours is one of them so I can keep track and deal with them one by one. If you have a £20 sub it's best to post it again unless the original ad had replies etc you'd like to keep. Cheers and apologies ped
21. Thanks again. Status say 908mm is between the 'inside of each ball end' which sounds like ball centre to me. Like you say though I reckon that's probably generous. I calculate I'll need about 910mm minimum to allow correct installation (with bridge anchor right forwards then pulled back to tune). Think I'm just going to have to try some. Worst case scenario I'll get at least one set from a pack...
22.
I've just been able to measure the Status strings on my Spirit XZ-25 and under tension, from hole centres of each ball the string length is 914mm, so I don't know if that helps.
Thanks for that, seems a bit longer than the spec in their site then. 914mm would fit ok. 908mm is a bit tight but just about doable. I've emailed status to check how accurate their current specs are (seems they changed manufacturer recently) so maybe they'll send me some? Are your strings new or have you had hem a while? Maybe they're the new manufactured ones?
23.
In an opposite fashion, you could use a pedal coupler to have the PJB Bighead dangling out of your jack socket with no patch cables if that's your thing too!
Reckon it's a bit heavy for that really. Currently I have a 'Noels Bass Mycro' 9v headphone amp that I dangle from the socket and it's not very neat (plus the thing produces a bit of hiss and doesn't have an Aux input)
24. Here's the end clamp I just found a part of the Status site where they list the length of the strings - 908mm. JUST too short to install half at a time with any wiggle room, unfortunately. It might JUST work but I probably won't gamble on it, especially as Elixirs are my fave anyway. Just seems a waste to chuck half the string away!
25.
bad idea, the open end of each string will be too fat to wind on the tuner and will probably start to unwind, coz you're gonna cut the string at it's centre, the thickest part
Sorry I should have said, the bass is headless so the string will be clamped at the end of the bass, not wound, so although cutting the strings will take some decent tools, there is no extra length needed for winding.
