Our drummer had good timing (when he wasn't playing!) - the minute we'd loaded everything up he'd arrive with his drums. I should thank him though because he's the reason I went to a full Mesa/Boogie valve setup.
But, when it all comes together t can be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience - when you've set up and the sound check goes well, the landlord is welcoming, friendly and enthusiastic about having your band on, the venue meets expectations and there is a good crowd in that are up for it and you're carrying drum hardware across a car park whilst the sun is shining. The above does happen sometimes and when it does, it's fantastic.
Oh, definitely Even better if the drummer carries his own blasted hardware!

Sounds good to me Peter. I left the whole giggling scene behind years ago and now I play along with things in my own little world - no setting up, no annoying landlords, no disappointing venues or carrying drum hardware across a car park in the rain. Just 100% escapism.

Yeah looks lovely with the natural body

I think I'd like this but I have a question about bridged mode. Does one have to use the binding posts for that? If so how does one go about that as opposed to a normal speakon lead? I'd only want to power one cab with it in bridged mode and would prefer to use a jack or speakon from the poweramp... or am I reading it wrong? Cheers ped -
Hi there Yes just post the ad and it'll send you to the payment page when you submit the thread. Cheers
Yes, I dropped by 3 times and had a quick word, but didn't feel particularly engaged. First time one person said "We're just setting up" and then carried on speaking to one of the others, so I wandered off (it was at least 10:30, maybe 11 on the Saturday). Next I mentioned I'd started the "Is anybody getting bored of "reliced" instruments?" and one of the people said "Which one - we have lots of them?" and that was that (it's now at 190 posts). The 3rd time I said "It's loud here!" and someone said they had been giving earplugs out on the way in and that was about it. So others may have chatted and so-on, but that's how it was for me - no real conversation.
OK, well you did mention relics...
Dropped by the basschat stand, but the folks there didn't seem too chatty.
Genuinely surprised at this - we made a massive effort to engage with anyone who even made eye contact, so much so I was fully shattered after each day. Did you come over to the stand and say hello? Sorry if I/we missed you

We really enjoyed the show. We had a great time on the Basschat stand and it's given us lots of ideas about how to improve the stand next year. We gave out hundreds of lanyards, plus Rik and I made our fiancees come along and they helped get people to sign up on the spot. Noise was fine, I thought - yes it got a bit loud during the loud period, but really it wasn't that bad if you had some ear protection and you could always go to the other end of the venue and have a cuppa if you found it too much. Personally I think some of the playing was a bit repetitive and the worst players seemed to be the loudest, but hey, it's a bass guitar show. Live and let live. I actually much preferred having lots of smaller companies at the show rather than mourn the loss of larger companies. They hold little interest for me, and it opens the door to independent builders like Stonesfield (who were brilliant) and the atmosphere was really friendly and collaborative as a result. Christine and I walked around the stands chatting and meeting these guys many of whom I've only talked to by email before, so it was great to meet Marleaux and LeFay. We'll be there next year just for the fun of it, but with a more thoroughly planned stand (no more sellotaping a poster to the wall) although we all agreed the 'home made' feel at our stand was really quite inviting. It was great to meet so many of you, so thanks for coming to say hi to one of us.

Why was my Amazon/Elixir heads up deleted?
ped replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
It's here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/301462-heads-up-elixir-nanowebs-amazon/page__p__3248919#entry3248919 If you can't see it it might be because it was posted around the time we did a server reboot do it might not have indexed properly. It should appear back in 'your content' tonight. Cheers -
Haven't checked, but I'm assuming there's parking at Olympia? Also, does anyone take a bass with them or not?
I think I parked there once and it was a bit busy so I'm sure there's better places nearby. You can take bass to try out some amps and such but if you go to watch something in the main hall it might be a bit of a pain to lug about. I've been working on the nest 'meet times' for the BC stand to try and avoid clashes with the stage and masterclasses and also space them out for different times of the day. Roughly this is planned: Sat 12:15 2:00 3:30 Sun 12:15 2:00 Obviously feel free to drop by any time but this is so that you can all congregate at a given time to meet other BCers! Cheers ped
I am far from an expert, but I would imagine from Kings Cross, go to High Street Kensington, and walk straight down Kensington High Street. Takes about 10 minutes to walk, and you can`t get lost
Is it really that close! Ok well I'm up for a challenge. If you never hear from me again please search the Kensington area

What's the best way from Kings Cross?

Yes it's quite an even response actually. I was a bit surprised; the first few times I used it I was wearing my headphones which are closed back and assumed it didn't produce much noise itself, but when I took them off it does make a bit of noise. Not so much as to annoy someone in the next room and hardly a full range response but it kind of sounds like a cheap speaker. As it sits under my office chair I actually pump my music through it to provide some kick along with the hifi, and it's amazing. With the hifi on any noise it produces is drowned out very easily leaving just the feel behind. It's still a central part of my setup and I don't know how I lived without it provided that most of the time I play my bass through headphones, in my own world with everything at my fingertips on the VB99. At some point I want to either send the signal through a pre-amp or get a different power amp so I can filter out the top end going into the board which might make it more efficient as my current power amp struggles a bit as it cab't be bridged. The board takes about 600w at 8ohms. If I ever get round to buying a house (unlikely) I'm going to have one installed in the floor in my office and at least my half of the sofa One detail I forgot to mention that's quite neat is how it 'floats' on a set of springy feet which nicely isolates it from the floor, transmitting zero energy to the space around it. I was a bit concerned it would make everything in the office shake...
Great bass, great story! Saw John Giblin play with Kate Bush in 2014 at Hammersmith - he was unbelievably good.. Shouldn't say this, but compared to some of the 'vintage' basses being sold at certain establishments for crazy money -that don't have anywhere near the provenance that this bass has -. this an absolute steal at this price IMHO!! GLWTS
Came to say the same thing. Fabulous bass and great price.
I'm going on saturday, I'll pop over and say hi to Ped. BTW I'll be trying stuff out using a plectrum!! Hopefully some of us will work out who we are!!
Jolly good! You can grab a Basschat lanyard from us at the stand and write your name on a bit of card

It's really sweet - the satin finish and the shape make it a really tactile instrument and it seemed to respond very well to different positioning and technique. You can't beat a graphite neck IMO and the marriage between the body material and the neck works really well, bringing out the best in each. Yeah we want some better pics to show off the neat design details such as a really crafty bridge cover.
Cheeky question, I know - but what sort of flight case is that? It looks exactly like what I need...!
I think it's made by Scott Dixon. I found it on eBay quite cheap. It's brilliant, takes up very little space compared to a normal guitar rack and with the lid on its very neat and good protection. It also serves as a limited to buying any more instruments (unless I find another, then I get to buy three more
