1.
What an interesting bass! So it's tuned BEADG an octave up, is that correct? I've wondered about a 5-string cut down to the 5th fret, giving EADGC (with or without the C, to be honest) at a much shorter scale. Seems like a handy way to make a travel bass, and without the need for electronics to create the lower notes.
Yeah that's right. To be honest I forget it's an octave up - it sounds huge. I think Wing make a bass a bit like the one you describe - have a look on their site. I've never seen one though, they're such a small company I don't think they have any UK distributor. Not yet anyway. I played my normal basses for a bit last week after not touching them for a couple of weeks at least. It didn't feel weird at all given the similar spacing and feel plus the same strings (different gauge). I went back to the wing and it felt great - tbh I'm starting to think it's becoming my go to bass, certainly for the type of playing I do, bumming around the house in my pants.
2.
Ah man, now I’m GASing for a wingbass big time!
Admit it, you want a pug hybrid too!
3. I think the one on Bass Direct looks lovely. I'd like to try one. The guys at the company are very friendly also. There's no shame in having a 2k bass if you've just started but your tastes and preferences may change as you learn.
4. I bend mine sideways
5. Just funkin' out with Sybil
6. I'm not sure to be honest, I tried to find out when I was buying a used PX4D recently - it's not very clear but I think the current Pandora is the 'Mini'... they're all kind fo the same though.
7. There's the Korg Pandora stomp. Worth a look.
8. I really like a ramp. Fortunately most of my basses that aren't ramped have wide and flat pickups in just the right place!
9. Looks like a ‘cracker’ ‘Flipping’ brilliant
10. Yeah give that a try. I found mine was really noisy once but it turned out to be a non Roland 13 pin cable which wasn't much good.
11. Some ideas: Have you got another GK cable you can try? Have you tried another power supply? Have you tried it in a different power socket/another room? I don’t suppose you have another bass with a GK Pickup in it? If you’re near York you could try one of mine to see if it’s the unit or the bass/pickup
12. Ashdown are excellent
13. If you like the ‘roundwound’ sound on fretless, just go ahead and use them. The board can easily be repaired if and when it needs it. High tension is what puts me off flats.
14. I still haven't seen anything that has the same squelchy low end as the original DOD FX25. Most others I've tried open up in a similar way but rather than hitting a point where it goes bleeeaughhhghgh' they carry on up the envelope to a whistle. If you see what I mean.
15. Always liked them. When I first started playing I really wanted the trans blue one with the additional J pickup. Hope you enjoy it.
16.
Is it like the pitch of a piccolo bass?
EADG, Octave up.

Aye I bought a super cheap original one for £3 on eBay a while ago so will give it a try when it arrives.
18. I bloody love it
19. Brilliant little bass!
20. Happy daze
21. I've just sat down with the PX4D and set up my clean preset. It's a great device - really quiet when set up properly (all the presets are rubbish) and it has some great sounding effects, especially the delays and chosussessess. The built in drum patterns are fun, too.. I looked at the Zoom B1on too, it looks great - I'm not such a fa of the floor box format, though. I'm sure it's an excellent box.
22. Love these basses
23.
Just to piddle on a couple of suggestions so far - the EHX has no aux in, and the PX4D is very noisy.
I think the PX4D CAN be noisy but if you make your own presets and set them up well I've found it to be pretty quiet. My normal setting seems to be an amp head, no cab, little eq, limiter and reverb - there's very little hiss. Certainly not as much as the HB or Vox
24. I spent ages looking for something. Ended up with a PX4D which I haven't played with much yet but it seems like a great device. My main requirements were light and small, battery powered with reverb, line in and limiter. PX4D does it all and can be quite cheap.
What about this one? very cheap and according to people in TB works very well https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_custom_line_bass_di_ex_b_stock.htm
I had one briefly. Whilst it sounded ok it was a bit noisy, the compressor was quite harsh and even more noisy plus I really missed having reverb for solo practice. I use Bose ae2w headphones which have always been great for bass. They give a nice sound that seems to me the same as the bass does going to desk so I know what I hear is what goes down on the recording.
