1.
I'm going on saturday, I'll pop over and say hi to Ped. BTW I'll be trying stuff out using a plectrum!! Hopefully some of us will work out who we are!!
Jolly good! You can grab a Basschat lanyard from us at the stand and write your name on a bit of card
 2. It's really sweet - the satin finish and the shape make it a really tactile instrument and it seemed to respond very well to different positioning and technique. You can't beat a graphite neck IMO and the marriage between the body material and the neck works really well, bringing out the best in each. Yeah we want some better pics to show off the neat design details such as a really crafty bridge cover.
 3. I've just borrowed £2 from QuickQuid so as long as I pay it back tomorrow I'll only owe £20,000
 4. People in York have taken to the streets. I'm staying indoors because some have been carrying burning bass effigies. Brb
 5.
Thanks for the info! I shall start researching!
Sent you a PM with a few links
 6.
Cheeky question, I know - but what sort of flight case is that? It looks exactly like what I need...!
I think it's made by Scott Dixon. I found it on eBay quite cheap. It's brilliant, takes up very little space compared to a normal guitar rack and with the lid on its very neat and good protection. It also serves as a limited to buying any more instruments (unless I find another, then I get to buy three more
 7.
The Old Arpege is hands down the best 'Rock' Bass
Which one? I've got two
 8.
I spoke to Andy Palmer and Mrs Elixir at the Birmingham Guitar show on Saturday. The guitar strings are already sporting sexy new packaging, and the Bass string packaging will be updated in the next couple of months. They are going to be in a slightly more substantial boxed packet, with the Elixir logo embossed in very high relief. In addition, the packs will be sealed with a holographic sticker which is destroyed when peeled or removed. While these changes are not going to prevent counterfeiting, it will certainly make it MUCH harder and more expensive to do, hopefully reducing the financial gain to the point that these gits will no longer bother because it isn't worth their while...
Great stuff. Yes I've seen the new packaging and some interesting developments due to be released soon...
 9. I'm using a no-name 800w 1U Poweramp to power my Tecamp Pleasure Board but because I can't bridge it I'm not getting the most out of it. It says D800 on the front, which I think means 400w a side into 4ohm. It sounded massive with my SWR cabs but I'm looking for something a bit more suitable for my 'board. I saw this - Palmer Macht 402 for £250ish http://www.palmer-germany.com/mi/en/MACHT-402-19-Stereo-Power-Amp-for-Guitar-PMACHT402.htm http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Palmer-MACHT-402-19-Stereo-Power-Amp-for-Guitar/1QZG#full-des It looks great - bridged it'll do 400W into 8ohms (Tecamp is 600w rated) and it also crucially has a 'rumble filter' and EQ for each channel, so I can make more use of the watts on offer by dealing out the high end completely (remember this is to power one of these so it essentially provides a vibration) Has anyone tried one? I'd like to know what frequency the EQ is set at... better email them...
 10.
Shuker 36" Designed to have a piano /alembic tone with built in Roland Midi pick up , Shuker JJB Roland GR55 also used for main tone modelling Ashdown ABM1000 Ashdown Labs 500 pre JJB head .....Still can't decide which one I prefer as both are very different & I like both 2 x Root Master cabs with Sica drivers ....but always looking at cab options
Let's see your Roland equipped bass!
 11. Here's mine, probably a bit different, at least
 12.
It's exactly where I'd go for an amplifier module. Or a Powersoft module for example.. The only reason why I haven't done it so far is due to the reasons above (BeerOfTheBass) that slightly (hugely) outweigh the likelihood of me making a dog's dinner of crafting an enclosure! I just don't have the right tools. I do love the idea of onboard DSP though, especially when it can work in tandem with the speaker enclosure connected. The Bergantino B|Amp or Barefaced's FR800 powered cabinets are a good example of this.
Check ur PMs
 13. Ah I see, well, you should have asked for more
 14.
Must be some mega overheads/wages at £600 markup for 2 days!
Markup from what? What was it before, and how do you know?
 15.
Yeah I know..... can you change it????
Done
 16.
I used to own an almost identical model in the 80's...mine was white. Quite simply the best bass I have ever owned. Congratulations on a stunning collection.
Need some pics please! Spent the day setting this bass up and making a patch for it in my VB99. I've set the intonation but undecided exactly where to set the 12th fret note. Reading Gary Willis' guide he says to set it just in front of the line so that lower frets are on the line exactly. Either way I've gone for 12th 'on the line' and almost zero relief giving a very low action.
 17.
Hi Ped, thank you for taking the time to expalin all that. Hopefully everything is now clearer for all those that needed clarification. As a relative newbie I was merely playing devil's advocate. I have been a member of various forums for many years and now the hrs of thankless work that is put in by mods so I know it's not an easy job. Keep up the great work, it is an amazing forum! cheers, Chris
No problem, I don't claim to be an expert and the software isn't very intuitive so I've had to discover a lot of things on my own! Cheers ped
 18. Hi guys Just to say that the BASSCHAT discount code has been activated again until the day, so if you haven't got your ticket yet, use the code!
 19.
Quick ! while there is still time . Buy all the basses you will ever need, NOW ! coz after the day, SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED will be in charge of your bass purchases
Coincidentally I posted a NBD yesterday
 20.
nice, that string spacing looks very tight, what is it?
About 16mm, so good for me. I like tight spacing although being so used to 18mm ish on the 4 strings it takes some getting used to.
 21. Well I didn't think I'd be buying a new bass so soon after my recent find but I was very lucky to get wind of this one. For those of you that know me, I've been a fan of Vigier basses for many years now, after trying out so many others and selling them after an initial honeymoon period, my Passion bass (Light colour bass on the left, group pic) saw them all off with it's rock solid construction, 'velvet brick' sound and flexibility. The older models are really hard to find but I have several places I keep an eye on, mainly in France, where they are made. Recently a Basschatter sent me a message asking for details about a bass he had seen in Spain on a classifieds site which seems like a preloved type affair. Pictures were sent (the seller being a bit computer intolerant didn't help matters) but eventually we were able to ascertain that it was an extremely unusual 5 string fretless, the likes of which I haven't seen before in my 15 or so years of looking. I provided what information I could from the pictures and encouraged the Basschatter to buy it, but he passed as the funds weren't available and the seller wouldn't move on price. I asked if it would be OK if I had a go at getting some more pictures and perhaps buying it, if he was sure he wasn't buying it himself. He said go right ahead, so that's how I met Carlos, the seller's semi-English speaking son. We chatted for a few days and whilst he constantly apologised for his English, which was almost perfect, he visited his dad and took some snaps for me and helped with payment and posting arrangements. A true gent indeed, and he even posted the bass before my payment had fully transferred (I used Transferwise, brilliant service) Under a week later, rather unexpectedly (the tracking info said it was in Portugal!) it arrived. I spent a great morning setting it up, cleaning it and putting fresh strings on, and it plays and sounds fantastic. Carlos was delighted it arrived safely and sent a very nice email on behalf of his father (who has a really cool name 'Roque' - as in 'You Roque') The bass is very versatile, and I know this because I have a fretted version. The preamp is well suited to fretless as there's a variable filter with variable boost/cut to nail those mids and bring out a tremendous parp from the rear pickup, or a woody bark from both at once. I've had a fretless Vigier before, a Passion model as opposed to this model which is an Arpege. Soon after this one was made, Vigier started making their fretless basses with a 'delta metal' fingerboard which looks like a gold mirror. Beautiful, but I was forever polishing it. The pre in the Arpage makes more sense on a fretless than the passion (which has a preset cut boost and rotary freq selection). The construction is unique - again, Vigier started making necks from 100% carbon fibre after this bass, as far as I can find, literally the end of the year this was made. They offered both options for a time, the other option being, as this bass has, walnut wings and a maple neck thru married to a brass laminate under a phenowood board. Pretty crazy, and definitely an idiosyncratic French way to do things. Unlike the later basses with graphite necks this one has a truss rod which is useful on a fretless because as you know the neck relief is especially important without frets you can dress for a super low action. Well if you didn't read any of that no worries, here are some pics of the new bass, and some of the family! I'll record something with it, and my others, this week. I've just changed broadband contract so god knows when I'll be able to upload them but it should force me to spend my time playing, at least. Cheers for now ped
 22. I suggested it would be easier if I did an ambient 6hr bass solo but she didn't go for it. Just spoken to a guy locally who'll do it all for £150, sounds pretty good. I didn't ask him the sensitivity of his speakers or anything, doh!
 23.
listen .. I put post because I fight with this man for 3 weeks. I was looking for help on the internet can someone also was cheated by him. flocks of my new account. I'm not a fan of guitars and audiophile equipment. my amplifier cost the 1,050 euros and I did not receive it from this man.
Respond to my PM when you have time, cheers
 24. I do acknowledge that we can be better in some areas, but the limitation is the software, and to be honest we don't want to penalise hundreds of new members because of a few idiots. Thankfully I can count on one hand how many issues we've been notified of in the last year. It's incredibly rare given how much gear moves through here every day.
