Fusion Urban Series - Double Electric Bass Gig Bag Review
ped replied to ped's topic in Accessories and Misc
Nice review, nice bag, good score on the freebie! How heavy is it though? I always love the idea of double bags, but they get serioulsy weighty with two basses in them!
The bag is 4.2KG with all the inserts but otherwise empty. Because the weight is so well distributed with the straps, it really feels good to wear. It feels like I'm wearing a large hiking rucksack. -
New caretaker wanted for Aria SB website / fan pages
ped replied to Bassclef's topic in General Discussion
It's a tricky one for me because whilst I'm totally happy to host the site and pay for anything that needs doing, my developers will be the ones who will have to actually sort it out and whilst I've generously offered their time(!) it'll be up to them to crack on with the work. Sorry I can't be any help further than that... -
Love a bit of slap. I have a really low action and when I dig in slightly it sounds a bit like slap anyway, so during finger style playing I'll often slap a single note, do a pop or a quick triplet and it doesn't stand out as a totally different technique, which is where I think it sounds best.

Fusion Urban Series - Double Electric Bass Gig Bag Review
ped posted a topic in Accessories and Misc
Fusion Urban Series Double Electric Bass Bag – Basschat Review https://www.fusion-b...-guitar-gig-bag £196 GBP delivery included If bass players spend hours discussing the pros and cons of various types of instrument, then ask one to mention how they get those basses from A to B and you’ve got a whole new can of worms. Once you’ve spent hundreds of hours finding the prefect bass, amp and cab, you realise that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A case is both an investment to protect your beloved instrument but also a practical piece of kit for moving said instrument with the minimum of fuss and maximum comfort. Don’t get me started on guitar straps, either. Options tend to be one of two camps – a hard case (from full flight case to high impact rigid foam) to a ‘gig bag’ which can be worn on your back. One case can’t do it all; sometimes nothing short of a flight case will do - especially if you load your gear into a van – but we’ve all spent time and energy trying to load a rectangle hard case into the back of a car like customers in an Ikea car park. Let’s face it, for the travelling musician carrying a hard case any distance is awkward. And that’s before the drummer asks you to help with their hardware. Enter the Fusion Urban Series. A superbly crafted range of bags for a variety of instruments. More often than not, I like to take two instruments with me. I could take two bags, but having both in one is handy, weighs only slightly more (my basses are both under 4kg) and I’ll get told of less if my fiancée thinks I’ve only bought one item. The bag itself is really nicely made. Time will tell how it holds up but as a bit of an expert on all things bag (I spent a large part of my 20s looking for the perfect camera bag) I can tell that the construction is top notch. Large good quality zippers, double seams, thick but light materials all combine to make a bag which is both light (4.2kg) and actually rather rigid. It would be very difficult to bend the bag when it’s empty. Areas that come into contact with the ground are reinforced and rubberised. Many people reading this review will be aware of the other options in this sector. Mono is a name that comes up. So why didn’t I get one of those? Well, partly because I prefer the design of the Fusion, but mainly due to the internal bracing system. There’s a solid foam piece for holding and supporting the neck whilst a removable 20mm padded ‘collar’ can be adjusted to fit the contour of your bass, as you can see in the pictures. You can also use one section for things like a pedalboard, mixer, headphones, cables etc. and use the collar to divide the section into a completely different shape. The bag is even provided with a bunch of medium and short length foam dividers which you can use to further organise this section. Are there any downsides? Well, a couple. First of all, because of the close fitting of the collar to the shape of my instrument I have to fully open the bag to remove a bass (rather than opening the top and pulling it out) however that would be possible if I arranged the collar differently. Secondly the access to the sections takes some getting used to. To get the first bass out you can open the top flap and open it right up – the instrument can easily be accessed in this way. However, removing the second bass is a bit trickier. Partly that’s because the fact that the first part of the case acts as a counterweight and makes the whole case want to flip over but secondly I feel that the top zipper should open right down to the neck section on both sides so that the case falls open more easily. Again, a small point, and I’m nit-picking. The main sections open in a zig-zag fashion so one section opens in the opposite direction of the other. I’m not sure why that is, and it’s taken a while to get used to as previously cases I’ve had have always opened on one side only, like a book. Fusion said this was because players they spoke to found it easier and you may find it suits you, too. One of my favourite things about this bag is the quality of the straps, both shoulder and waist. Quite often, wearing a gig bag means it slaps against your legs (they wear too low) or feels top heavy. Even more often, the straps simply aren’t comfortable because metal fittings and buckles seem to be in the wrong place. Well, strap the Fusion on and it feels well balanced and comfortable. The waist strap stops the bag flapping and the shoulder straps (which chest strap) hold it securely. It still wears quite high so going through doorways requires a kind of limbo movement, but you can wear it lower if you want by folding away the waist strap. The other sections of the case are designed to fit common accessories a musician might take with them; rolls of cable, straps, half a baguette. There’s plenty of room in the well designed and deep pockets – each of the sections on the front goes right to the bottom of the bag. You could reasonably expect to cram 6 pint glasses in the main pocket if the gig doesn’t pay well and you collect that sort of thing. Let me know if you have any questions about it – and if you’re around York feel free to have a look and give it a try. Something like this is often a distance buy, so Fusion have a returns policy if it doesn’t suit you. There’s a list of UK stockists on the website but you may need to call ahead to check they have one in stock. Full disclosure - I got talking to Fusion about this bag with a view to buying one, and they sent me one to review then let me keep it -
Hi chaps I'll disable the ad banners and see what happens. I think we had an issue before with the Elixir banner; it's hosted and updated remotely unlike the other which we do ourselves, so it could be that. They should be off in about 15 mins... Cheers

Don't send anything until the money is in your bank account, and insist on fully insured and tracked postage so you can follow it all the way.

And of course we all know the Mesa 1516B/E (15/10/6/6/horn) best sounding cab I've ever had (especially paired with a 400+)

Fret size and fingerboard radius for low action

Might be coincidence but the lowest action basses I've had (and I like my action loooooowwwww) have all had a zero fret. -
Great OTB thinking! Wasn't thinking of this, but since you've opened my eyes so to speak, I command you to source one of those Citroën C6 cars that go so well with these specs. Yes, I'm aware you miss your C6. You need a new one
I just missed out on a rare 3L petrol one but to be honest my heart wasn't in it. They're getting impossible to look after. I could be tempted with a DS though I think I actually need glasses. Booked an eye test but forgot to go. Where do they do memory tests. -
I'll let the artist know. Thanks! I love them for many reasons. No trouble with the bar. The upper lenses are distance lenses and thus the "main" glasses. One looks "through the middle" of these lenses, and the bar becomes just like the frame of other glasses: it lets you know where the effect of the lenses stops. The lower lenses are "reading" lenses, but the ultra-genius is they're adapted to objects farther away than a book - more like a laptop screen or, importantly, the car dashboard. Absolutely brilliant. So with these, without nodding or adapting one's eyes, one can keep track of the traffic as well as the dashboard, or watch tv whilst posting nonsense on BC. At the same time one saves money, as no expensive bi-focal or vari-focal lenses are needed, and one pays for one frame only. Plus, one doesn't need to carry reading glasses when leaving the house, as the dashboard/laptop lenses are good enough for that. Absolutely bloody brilliant specs in every respect, and highly recommended.
Amazing. I'm going to damage my eyesight today so I can get some too -
Exactly the same with GarageBand. Really disappointing because the amp sims sound great but there's just this tiny delay which means for example when I turn the volume down I can hear the notes on my bass acoustically milliseconds before the processed signal. The company wouldn't admit it openly but they said that 'most people won't notice' which seems to me an admission of guilt if anything. I guess in a band context I might not so much either but as a play through headphones a lot from my Roland VB99 this just feels really annoying. So much potential. I'll give them a chance to send me something else but as this is the latest generation I'd expect it to be their best effort. Disappointed but I'd still be interested to hear if anyone else has the same issue. P.S I e tried it on two different iPads. Haven't tried on laptop yet because that kind of defeats the point for me - might try my phone I suppose but being an older model I don't hold out much hope.

Does anyone use a 'stereo' head bass amp and two speakers?
ped replied to danonearth's topic in Amps and Cabs
At home I play using headphones and also really enjoy stereo effects like chorus and reverb. On my fretless sim I pan each string a little and some of my synths have things going on in stereo too. Great fun but I haven't bothered live. When I used to play at home through an amp (which I stopped doing because I didn't want to annoy anyone) I had two combos coming from my unit, one each channel on different sides of the room, tilted back. Sounded great, but I practically live in my headphones so I'm in my own little world. -
Not yet, will do today and report back!

I also had a Consat a few years ago, really lovely bass. Marleaux are one of my favourite German manufacturers along with LeFay.

Hi Dan I'm sure this will come up time and time agin in the coming months but I hope you understand that we're trying to avoid talking about Brexit here on Basschat. Yes, it's going to be difficult to avoid entirely as it's affecting the prices of gear, but threads dedicated to how a price has gone up or down due to Brexit always end up with arguments for and against Brexit and insults start being exchanged. This is what we want to avoid. Going forward, mentioning a price increase as part of a thread about something is fine but as a forum can we try and avoid getting into conversations about the pros and cons of Brexit specifically, and any members insulting one another will end up with warnings. I think we all understand there will be some uncertainty in the short term but we don't need to talk in depth about the politics every time someone says how much something cost. For all our sakes, be cool. Cheers ped (P.s not aimed specifically at you, Dan, but anyone else itching to have a debate about Brexit - we may set up a dedicated thread where you can talk about it (if that's what floats your boat) but I'll let you know)

Yes with amplitube. iPad mini on latest OS. Plenty of memory and no other apps running. Support basically gave up on me so I'm glad I didn't buy it.

New caretaker wanted for Aria SB website / fan pages
Latest update - caretaker post still vacant. In June 2016, an American gentleman called James agreed to take over the running of my SB website. Since then I'm afraid he has been having a nightmarish time, and we have reluctantly agreed that I should look for someone else. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please get in touch with me by PM. Ped, is BC's offer to host the site still open? Graeme
Yes I believe we're either waiting for some stuff to be sent to us or someone is waiting for us - Rik? -
I would get a peli case or similar and cut the foam to fit
