Not just any 80's graphite...the best of 80's graphite. These basses are amazing - I owned an ex Hue & Cry passion when I had a six pack and black hair, and it remains my favourite ever bass. Beautiful
Thanks. What colour was yours? You can imagine how many basses I've been tempted with having run this site from day one but the passion has been my only bass for 12 years now. Having the Vbass installed in it (extra pickup near bridge) staved off any gas for other pedals and basses but I've always wanted the matching Arpege. I just can't fina anything that competes with the neck on these. The action is super low and they are effortless to play. I've had a couple of basses with the Benedetti pickups in and matched to the Arpege preamp they sound fantastic.
Does look like a Kahler That's a beautiful looking bass - a bit of Guild and Rickenbacker styling in that body shape, much prettier than a Status IMO Good score ! Is this the one you had all the shipping hassle with?
Turns out the bridge is Vigier's own design

Is this the one you had all the shipping hassle with?
I know the bridges on the series 3 basses were kahler and I'm sure I read this was but can't remember where. I prefer this old version as it's far more adjustable than the new one where to adjust the action you rotate the saddle to move it up and down but if your preferred height is a half turn you can't get the string in the groove! I think the Arpege shape is the oldest vigier made, then the passion shape emerged a tiny bit later. The body is quite big in comparison which looks great to my eyes. It has a sort of violin shape at the bottom and I've never had a walnut bass before. Good call on the Rick comparison. It can actually sound quite close, too. Shipping was a nightmare; it took them three extra days to pick it up and when they did the tracking number led nowhere. I assumed as it was bank holiday it hadn't started its trip yet but then it was at my door.. No customs duty, nothing. So it was very frustrating followed by amazing. Still, it reminded me why I have only had one bass for so many years as I really don't like the process! I don't think I'll buy another bass for a looong time (probably)
Now that's what you call a chunky bridge! HNBD
Yes it's a bit of a beast. I'm not sure but I think it's vigier's own or possibly kahler. Very adjustable though and string through body. I could probably clean it up a little with some metal polish but I'm not 100% sure what it's made of.

Thanks chaps. Yeah the body shape is beautiful. I love the details like the angular bottom bout and lower horn. The bass is still very light, but due to the walnut body it's a tad heavier than the Passion (which is only 3kg). In BC tradition I'll endeavour to weigh it later. And yeah the tuning head covers have been a trademark for years now, feels funny playing a bass without them (although they only work on 2+2 headstocks imo)

I tried to get a 'sofa shot' inspired by the pictures taken by Maruszczyk! She's a Vigier Arpege, made in 1986. Specs: Carbon neck thru 2x Benedetti single coil pickups Schaller hardware Walnut body Volume with pull boost Pickup switch Parametric frequency gain (+/- 15db I think) Parametric frequency filter (80hz to 5200hz) Phase switch Tone Direct electronic bypass output jack (top) Normal output jack (side) Compared to the Passion bass, the Arpege is more open sounding, more like a jazz bass I suppose you could say. Although I'd probably liken the sound more to a Smith. The neck is identical to my Passion, but with a glossy headstock. The action is just as I like it - super super low I'll record some sounds soon and post them up for comparison. Relaxing on a different sofa And here she is with her sister (1988 Passion)

Well well! I came home to find it had been delivered to my neighbour. Weird because they only collected it in Friday and it was bank holiday on Monday (I think, in Canada) and I was expecting a letter from Customs. The tracking number didn't reveal any activity at all. So I'm really happy to have escaped paying customs duty(!) and the bass is fantastic. Spent the evening setting it up and cleaning it and I'm delighted to report that the neck is identical to my passion bass, dead straight and the action goes just as low. Fantastic. It has a very different tone to the passion (more jazz bass esque with a delightfully plingy too end ) so it's a great second bass. I'll post a NBD report this weekend!

What's your favourite source of drum beats or backing tracks?

Interesting thread. I tend to use YouTube or Garaheband. Will have to try out some of these other suggestions. -

It cost me £190 by the way, with insurance. Money well spent so far, you'll agree! -

Cool so they still haven't collected it. Their 'policy' is to call the day before to check (I don't know what, I doubt many people order a parcel pickup and pay for it as a prank) so even if they DO call today, I presume they won't pick it up until next week now. And it's Bank Holiday in Canada! Yeyyy! So we're looking at Tuesday earliest now, a week later than booked. Awesome. -
Check this site out http://www.freewebs.com/jasonfan/premetallica.htm Tons of pages with photographic evidence.

My friend in Canada (near Toronto) said every time you sell a car, it's taxed. Even if it's a 10th owner clunker. -
What have you bought?
Have a look here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/290525-incoming/page__fromsearch__1 So it turns out TNT/interparcel are useless. Who'd have thought it. The only saving grace is that I didn't pay for faster shipping which would now be pointless because of the delay so far. First they say that they call the collection point the day before collection to check all is ok. Only they didn't because I missed a number off the end of the Canadian phone number. Well I checked and the form you fill in online says there are too many if I put it all in with the dialling code and it doesn't say whether you need to put the international number or local one. Either way I guess that's my fault however they have my number too but rather than calling me to check they thought 'nah lets just forget about ever collecting this until he realises and chases it up his end' which could have been ages. Luckily the guy at the other end called to say there was no phone call or collection so I ended up phoning in. So they finally call him yesterday, the day after the supposed collection, and ask "do you have a Commercial Invoice". A what? He says. I check my paperwork which makes no mention of one. So they hang up and leave it at that. I call interparcel today, who, to be fair, answer straight away. "Oh, that's a customs declaration". Right. So can you show me where it says "commercial invoice" on the paperwork? Now I've googled it I know what it is too but I've never heard it referred to as one, and surely TNT could have suggested to the collection point that it's also commonly referred to (and is in our/your paperwork) as a Customs Decleration!!! So two days down and they have a bank holiday coming. Plus the delays as HMRC tax me on importing an item from France that went to Canada and now to the UK that was built in 1986 and had been paid for with taxes income and now probably at least third hand, maybe I'll get it in a couple of weeks if at all!!! -
An estimate is fine - you can then discuss the deal with a prospective buyer/trader by PM. It sounds silly but the value is whatever you'd be happy to let it go for. You can check eBay sold listings and other forums but that's about it - what's it worth to you?
