I've had to file down bridge saddles on many basses from lots of top manufacturers. I like my action super low and often the bridge just won't go down far enough. I tend to file it down below what I require so I can use the grub screws to set it exactly and leave me with some adjustment in both directions. I'm used to neck though basses where the fretboard is only marginally higher than the body of the bass so only very low set bridges will do the job. My fave is the Schaller 3D.

With my new toy (Tecamp Pleasure Board) and headphones, I can achieve the perfect mix in my headphones and feel like I'm standing in front of (or more specifically 'on') a huge bass rig. Nobody else can hear it unless they're in the same room in which case, after playing with my headphones off, it sounds like a muffled boxy speaker at very low volume. I don't need to do this because of noise levels as my neighbour is the other side and basically deaf, but I much prefer the feel and control I have using this setup, and like Mingsta says above, I enjoy playing more when I know I'm not disturbing anyone. Also with an amplifier everything in my office rattles at different frequencies which drives me dotty.

I have a 5 minute slot in the lavatory where I accept handshakes from fans. That way I'm right next to a basin and airblade. I ask them to wash first.

I'd be interested to try them. Elixir strings were a revelation for me and I can make a set last nearly a year. They suit me down to the ground. I was sure that Gore who make the coating had patented the process of coating the string once it has been wound so other competitors had to coat theirs then wrap the string. Maybe that's not true as these sound like a similar process. I have also tried coated strings by Roto, D'addario and Warwick and none were a patch on the Elixirs, so I presumed it was due to the patented process.

I've seen it done on a bass which I guess wasn't available as a 5 (it was some sort of Rick). Guess it would be fine if you don't mind the tight spacing.

I like a worn looking bass, but I like it to be wear that I've caused. Everyone likes their favourite old jumper, but would you wear someone else's? No thanks.

[/quote] Thanks, I had a fretless Passion or a few years and really enjoyed it, I had to sell it in the end to pay for 'other things' - mine was a series 3 model, with the 10% graphite neck. Really nice, but I really want a Series 2 100% carbon necked one, which are again very rare (although coincidentally I have a lead on one I'm looking at buying soon)

Love that. Nothing beats the feeling of having a unique bitsa bass, especially when it looks so neat.

[/quote] Thanks, I can't remember where I first saw them but I've had the passion for years and always wanted an Arpege but could only find earlier wooden necked ones or the later design. The full graphite model was always the holy grail... The bridge is very unusual indeed, I thought it had a trem at first! Later they used Kahler hardware which I didn't find as adjustable (I like my action super low). The Passion has always had Schaller hardware. I haven't recorded with this bass yet and it's basically impossible to find anything on YouTube (unless it's an earlier or later model) but I found this guy who has a few vids. [/quote] Don't get me started on the tonal possibilities with the Passion bass (on left in third pic) because that makes the Arpege seem simple - although even though it's more complicated/versatile, it's not as idiosyncratic as the Arpege! And don't get me wrong, 99% of the time I'm bypassing everything as they sound amazing when totally flat, but it's fun to have options on tap.
