A simple B flat on the one and three
I perfected the tone with the same on two and four!
Can you share the patch you made?
Sure - I'll have to simply type the settings down as I haven't got the facility to do a system dump or whatever it's called using MIDI at this point Start off with the 'Chameleon' preset (I think it's patch 120 unless you've moved it) COSM bass settings page 1 COSM Bass - on. Type - Synth Synth Type - Analog GR Master level - 100 Page 2 Mode - VCO Comp - Off Page 3 Cutoff Freq - 58 (though I adjust this with the knob on the bass to change the sound, 58 matches the video) Reso - 77 (Env Mod) - ON Sens - 35 Attack - 25 Page 4 Off Page 5 (Sweep) ON Rise - 32 Fall - 24 (Vibrato) - Off Page 6 EQ - On (but flat, just total gain +10) Page 7-15 all off/flat Page 16 String level 100 except G string which I turned down to 30 as it was louder than the others. ---- FX COMP ON - Limiter TRSH - 60 Ratio - 4:1 Attack - 0 Rel - 20 Tone - 0 Level - 62 --- That's it! Tbh it'll differ from one bass to another depending on your pickup install (distance from strings, placement etc) and your playing style (filter sensitivity etc) but this shoudl get you mostly there. Let me know if a screenshot of the editor would help, or pictures of the screen of the unit.
Looks amazing! I've always wanted to try a Vigier bass, particularly these older Arpege models - Geezer Butler used to play them and got a wonderful tone out of them. We've discussed Vigiers at length on Talkbass several years ago, Ped. I was after an Excess but nothing came of it.
Thanks, yes I vaguely remember. I probably thought you were American, then. They are rather rare over there, but funnily enough both graphite necked Arpege models I have ever seen for sale were in the US and Canada...
What is that bar next to the bridge?
That's the Roland pickup, attached to the 'brain' which is stuck onto his bass. You can also install the brain inside the instrument. Having individual processing of each string makes this synth sound so good, I don't think a monophonic filter would track well enough in the fast bits.
Very sexy synth sound, and extremely odd video
Some of the other videos are even odder!
I take it you used a Roland to copy it also?
Yeah, I found the video when I was trying to find something else VB99 based

Check out this synth sound I came across on YouTube whilst looking for inspiration this morning 1:41 is the clearest part Fairly random song but I love the bass. The band are actually awesome and I've stalked them over the internet today. Wonder if anyone here knows them? Turns out the synth is a Roland GR Analog synth, vocal mode with some envelope filtering on top. It took me about an hour but starting with the basic patch I was able to get exactly the same sound, albeit on a long scale bass, where it gets REALLY syrupy down to low D.
35dB boost? Really? Really really?
I think it's a 10dB actually. Nick may have modded his because when he starts a solo everyone else was probably turning up 10dB
-
Should be with me in a week or so. I've been after one for a long time now but they are very uncommon with the full graphite neck. It'll make a great match for my similar age Passion bass (below) It's a Vigier Arpege from 1986, number 93. Walnut body, apparently, which will sound fantastic. It's slightly different from the Passion model in that it has a larger body, pickups are further parart and it has some very interesting electronics going on. Nick (doctor of the bass) owns a beautiful blue one and gave me the rundown of the controls: Volume control with pull out "boost" feature, I think it is a 35dB boost, very handy for solos! Parametric Level control - activated by pulling out - this offers cut and boost for the selected frequency Parametric Frequency control - goes from deep bass, all your mids and treble freqs - works only when you have the Level control activated! Passive Treble control. Large 3 way toggle for pickup selection Mini toggle = pickup phase Output on the front bypasses the electronics/studio mode. Side output is post pre-amp. I'll post a full NBD topic when it arrives and it's had a good clean!

Interesting, thanks. I remember last time I looked there was a holding page. I'm always interested to hear about graphite neck production as it seems so few offer it now. Will watch with interest - or you keep watching and update us!

They sound like great chaps, having spoken at length with the owner. The prices are very good indeed.

*SOLD* Vigier Passion 1984/5 Series II (Graphite neck-thru)

Hm you may have played with that side of things more than me then... on the VB99 I can 'hold' a note using the D-Beam thingy but I haven't tried phasing it in and out. Have you tried the Vguitar forums, there are some very knowledgeable chaps on there. Often it takes me a few days to get my head around their answers! Cheers ped

*SOLD* Vigier Passion 1984/5 Series II (Graphite neck-thru)

I recently bought this bass as a partner for my main bass. Just like busses, another has come along so I'm letting this one go for the simple reason that the other matches the colour my main bass (!) If you don't know much about Vigier basses, they are entirely hand made and pioneered the use of graphite in the 80s. The 'Series II' basses have a full carbon neck thru as you see here. Soon after they moved to a graphite/wood mix. I think the full graphite ones are special. It plays wonderfully, low action and crystal clear sound from the two massive single coil Benedetti pickups. It's unusual to find one of these in original un-modified condition. Controls are a pickup switch (front, both, rear, rather than a sweepable pot), behind that is the volume knob. Underneath, a sweepable mid control (from 80hz to 5200hz) and a 15dB +/- switch. Behind that, a treble control that sweeps from super bright to thud, I've been unable to get the exact frequencies of this but it feels like +/- 15dB at around 8khz. Derek Forbes fans - this is identical to his Vigier. I wrote about the bass in some detail here so have a read and ask any questions. I'm in York if you'd like to come and have a play; I also travel to Oxford a bit so may be able to come to you. I will post it too but much prefer a F2F deal! It comes with a Gator case, one of those rectangular rigid foam ones. Sound clip of a very similar bass here (not me playing https://www.youtube....h?v=gOjwq4Xe4dU and here is one for people who say graphite sounds sterile https://www.youtube....h?v=ih6yMZRbRvY ) Basic features: - Graphite neck-thru - Benedetti single coil pickups - Hipshot D-Tuner - Beutiful aged-white colour - Schaller hardware, 3D bridge - Quirky French 18V pre-amp - New Elixir strings - Gator case - One tuning machine puppet supplied on request Pics:
Anything to get the weight down & make more space in the small pubs . what I really like is that I had one lead going from my Gr55 to the PA & another to my bass rig & relying on the monitor for the GR55 sounds , having everything on one lead going from the GR55 has made it easier & quicker to set up & sound check ..I must admit I haven't enjoyed getting my head around the GR55 .
I do exactly this but with a VB99 which is almost the same thing. I have a small Ashdown ABM 1x10 combo next to me and sometimes also IEM support. It's terrific! There's so much to learn with the GK systems but I really enjoy playing with things and getting my patches nailed. It's nice to know that once set up you can plug and play. It's worth spending the time getting to know how to work it all. I may be able to help if you have any specific questions? Cheers

Hi all Anyone here bought a bass from Canada and had it shipped? Who did you use, what service, how much, opinions etc? I have bought basses from as far as Japan before which have arrived in short order so don't envisage too much of a problem, plus I'll be ready for the import duty... Cheers ped
Nah mate Bobby definitely is not Alex and definitely is his right hand man at BF. Fine chap he is too
Yeah my fault - he sent me an email to explain (I thought the account was a spammer we've been having issues with, but later I found out it was the same IP as Alex so I got more confused) and I am sorry to say I never emailed him back to sort it... will get on it later today. Apologies all.

Also as a general heads up, don't put the £ sign in the value box, numbers only. PM sent with help

Hi, you sent £7 as a donation, rather than as payment for an item. I'll PM you with instructions. Cheers ped

I banned him a while back after he sent the same PM to several people, but didn't realise he had a second account - missed that! Thanks for letting us know.

Another 'used to be white' bass!
