Spyware warning
Ditto (and also Cisco). I PMed ped too
Norris helpfully sent me some detail by PM if it's any help: "From what little information I have, the alert seems to have come from the Cisco WBRS reputation system. The site is classed as "Streaming Audio" and has been identified as containing malware."
2. Love mine. Is yours a blue line speaker or an earlier one with a black cone?
3. My bass is like an old jumper. Electronically it's perfect, setup is bang on and hasn't moved or been changed in 10 years but the body has a few nicks, areas where the varnish has worn off and a few dings. I don't baby it at all but I'm careful with it but not so much that I worry about it. Like wearing an old fave jumper, compared to a brand new suit. I banged it in a door the other day and didn't even stop to check because it's OK. It would take a lot of abuse to do any damage and I couldn't really be comfortable with a pristine instrument just like I don't always wear a suit! She's 28 years old now and looks better with age, I suppose it's the bass equivalent of a MILF
4. And this sweet Cirrus http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Peavey_Cirrus_4.html
5. There's a nice graphite neck Peavey Q bass at Bass Direct. Love these basses http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Peavey_Q_Bass.html
6. I fully recommend a trip to see John
7.
As far as I know, he used his Fender Precision for all of his first stint (up to, and including Sparkle in the Rain) but I know he used his Vigier while touring the "Neapolis" album during his second stint with the band so may have also used it while recording that album.
Thanks for the info - I've got the two mentioned above so will give 'em a spin then see if I can track down his Vigier usage! I might be able to tell by listening but I'm not really a fan of live albums so a studio album is preferred.
8. Which album would you recommend to a Simple Minds virgin, bassline wise? Pref. where Derek is playing a Vigier.
9. Two settings (on my VB99 Jazz bass model) One - full both pickups, limiter, ampeg 810, bright off, ultra low+high on, centre mic, 50% DI - Marcus Miller slap sound (actually a copy of David Barard's sound from Dr. John) Two - Rear pickup only, limiter, Acoustic 360, Bright off, mid boost, 1x18 speaker, mic 1cm away from centre, 20% DI mix, flatwound string model - Burpy tight funk sound ala Me'shell Took me months to get these nailed but I'm so happy with them
10. Here it is - send me your address and I'll pop it in the post.

Great site, this - I bought some and they arrived within two days!
12.
Hello, I'm bringing this thread back to life. I've contacted banzaimusic too and they told me that although thay have the "sadowsky style" knobs they don't have the stacked one (for the VTC) wich I need. I need to replace them on my UV Metro 5 string . In the meantime do some new supplier show up ? or can you help me find out, in Europe, where to buy the stacked on to fit on my sadowsky? Thank you
I think I have one you can have - I'll upload a pic. I recently replaced a stacked one for two singles.
13.
Try Fretwraps. Very, very easy to adjust the amount of mute and just push it over the nut when you don't need it. Leaves plenty of room to fret at the first.
That wouldn't mute anything you fret though would it? I had a bassmute and it was brilliant. Can't use one now as no room between my bridge and pickup.
14.
This is common practice and is done in order to boost sales. Put Ozzy Osbourne next to his bass player on a magazine cover and it's likely that some Ozzy fans will buy the magazine, regardless of their interest (or lack of) in bass.
This. Dave is also a really good friend of the forum. Cool mag, cool guy, cool bass, cool gig.
15. Thanks - yeah I have the drummer package in Garageband which is pretty flexible and fun. Where possible I like to avoid using the computer when I want a quick jam and prefer using hardware. It would just be for practice... I checked out that little Korg which looks great but a bit synthetic sounding. What didn't you like about the SR16? My only concern is how easily you can programme your own loops in, as it doesn't have that 'sequencer' look like the 808 etc..
16. Cool - I was looking at drum machines the other day but I want one which sounds like a real drum kit rather than electronic funkyness. Not sure what to look for, Alesis SR16/18 crop up a lot but what else? The Elektron looks great. Will you use it for practicing along to or mainly for recording/playing as an instrument in it's own right?
17. The roadies come and re-arrange mine every other Tuesday
18. They look great - definitely interested to hear anyone's experiences. http://www.laurus.it/en/
19.
Hi Ped, and thank you to everyone who has replied on here. I am interested in your suggestion of hosting it on BC. Is there anything similar on here already? How would you see it working? Do you have in mind someone with editorial control, I mean rather than just threads where anyone can chip in? A bass player from the USA has been in touch, he sounds very keen and well qualified, and I was just about to give him the nod when I saw this.
Hi, we'd host it in our server but it wouldn't appear as a BC site as such. If you can find someone to maintain and continue to add to the site, we'll sort the rest. Sounds like someone had already offered to do both but let us know if we can help. Cheers ped
20. Hi guys If you haven't sorted something already, we'd be happy to do this for you via the BC server and rescue it for you. I'm just talking to the others about the details so I'll give you a point of contact in due course. Cheers ped
21. On ipad select the full version of the site at the bottom (you'll be currently browsing using the mobile interface which is somewhat slimmed down) Then on the full site you will see your name in the top right corner and the dropdown menu with the options. Or yes try on a laptop Cheers
22. Yep looks nice and tactile. How have you decided on pickup placement, in terms of actual distance from the bridge?
23. Loving this thread, really interesting work. Can't wait to see it finished!
