1. I'm biased as I used to have a '57 re-issue in shell pink, with white PG and all the ashtrays. I loved it and it looked great in the flesh. I'll see if I can find a pic...
  2.
He's mine and you can't have him! Like he'd ever look at you anyway!
I definitely saw him first, anyway it's my forum so I'll just have the last word and delete the database and shut down the server
  3. Chaps can we lay off the insults please. I'm sure Chris is flattered by you all arguing over him but let's not be silly.
  4. I used my 2x10 as a bedside table at University
  5. The best colour combination IMO. Looks beautiful. PM sent RE pics
  6. Sorry David but you saw the same pics we did and legally there's nothing we can do to help. We've tried, but that's all we can do. Please continue any discussions by PM as it isn't fair on the seller for this thread to be turned into a debate which should be happening in private. Cheers ped
  7. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about someone buying a bass and finding out it's not up to expectation. As ever make sure you get some good pics and meet face to face if possible. The mods have acted as a go between and some ground has been made but it's not something we offer other than as a favor to the parties concerned. Generally we are successful in reaching a satisfactory conclusion but both parties have to be willing to negotiate, naturally. GLWTS ped
  8. Yeah we've been working with the member to try and help resolve the issue. Investigations and police intervention is ongoing. Worth reiterating again the FAQ when buying and selling. Not always possible, but worth bearing these in mind when carrying out a deal. Thankfully instances of this type are very unusual but we do get involved and help as much as we can. Cheers ped ---- Guidelines for BUYERS 1. Make sure you exchange contact details with the seller. Get as much as you can – phone number, address, email and full name are essential. Be vigilant of members not offering any details other than their username. 2. If in doubt about a seller's credibility, search the 'feedback forum' to see if they have sold before. Do not accept evidence of eBay feedback as there is no way of proving this is the same person. 3. Have a good look at the member who you are buying from. View their 'profile' to find out how often they are on the forum, how many posts they have made and how long they have been a member. Be extra careful of brand new members with few posts. 4. If you have a concern with the authenticity/originality/provenance/description etc of an item for sale, do not comment on the seller's thread as these comments will be removed by a moderator. If you believe an item to be fraudulent then please PM a moderator and we will do our best to arbitrate - otherwise simply move along. 5. If you believe the price of the item is too cheap/expensive, then please PM the seller as to why. Do not ridicule or undermine the seller by posting how much you think it's worth or how much it can be gotten for elsewhere, the laws of supply and demand will determine if the item sells at that price. 6. Always view the item if possible. At the very least request decent photographs.

    Filter Quest!
I always preferred the FX25B to the straight FX25, added blend . Goes deep too! Si
I've never tried one but perhaps I should!
  10.
I guess the pickup position would be one of the main reasons getting a "nasal" sound in a bass. The bridge pickup on a Ken Smith seems to be closer to the bridge than on most other basses, and so does the neck pickup, too. If you want to get the same sound, you should consider finding a bass with a similar pickup setup. A Stingray has its own unique pickup position, and maybe the Ken Smith is able to blend pickups to somewhat mimic the pickup position of the Stingray, but I doubt that a Stingray will get the same sound that the Ken Smith bridge pickup has.. So if you really want to get the same type of sound, get someone to measure the pickup positions on a KS and try to find something that is close with humbucker pickups.
Yeah that's a big part of it. My bass now is a Vigier which has a pickup right next to the bridge. Often I play through a Vbass and I've modelled a Ken Smith sound by doing exactly as you describe; I measured the pickup placement and moved a 'virtual pickup' into place, chose the type of pickup and voila. The main thing that shines through to me is the very 'rounded' and 'full' sounding treble which somehow underlines even the low end, giving it a clear and cutting tone. The most Ken Smith sounding Ken Smith I ever played was a Burner series bass which is their budget range. Should have bought it.

    Filter Quest!

Interesting thread and I loved that FT2 review. Just a little shout out for the humble DOD FX25, still my fave filter pedal for the way it squelches the lows. I always found the Q-tron a little 'quacky' for my liking. I don;t have a clip to hand but here's a good one. It reacts quite differently depending on what type of bass you run through it but with the sensitivity set right you can get a really greasy sound: (not me playing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQyC1esbDG4
  12.
Marleaux Consat Custom. Not cheap, but still way cheaper.
Good shout. My Marleaux had a single pickup but I reckon a two pickup one would be pretty close. Lovely basses.
  13.
I don't think I've ever heard a Ken Smith. I'm intrigued now.
They have a very tight 'nasal' quality that sounds unique. I love them. Closest contender for me was a Bacchus Twentyfour which sounds like this: (right click, save as, rename extension to .mp3)
  14.
For sale this amazing Ritter classic 5. Mint condition. All specifications here: https://ritter-instr...icates/0303.pdf
Fixed the pics for you!
  15.
I was with BC on the whole issue until this post. I kinda know what you meant but rising above it would have been a better option.
Sorry, I know what you mean. I could probably have left it alone... Guess it's been one of those evenings. We've learned a lot through this issue and we don't take it lightly. If I appear flippant believe me it's not the case in real life.
  16.
Cor, it's great when someone with conviction turns up in a thread. No wishy washing hand wringing, just "this is how it is... it's my website, I make the rules" Spine-tingling.
Glad you enjoyed it.
  17. Please note - any more discussion regarding bans and our apparent lack of evidence/unfair treatment won't be tolerated as the decisions made by the mod team aren't up for discussion.
  18. I'd like to share every warning and every infraction by every member but unfortunately this forum isn't a democracy - it's a website which is privately owned and we don't discuss bannings or the reasons for them because we'd be here all day debating the ins and outs of it. We have better things to do. There's no conspiracy here - but a list of seven warnings in total (out of a maximum of five) and an eventual banning. What started out as an interesting thread has taken a turn into undermining decisions made which aren't open for discussion. If you want to hear Wayne's side of things I believe there's a ranty thread on Facebook somewhere. Get stuck in. To everyone else - thanks for using the forum. ped
  19.
I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by "The truth is what is happening" - could you clarify that for me please? If you are are saying that WPD is not giving the whole of the story and is telling it in a biased way then it rather appears that you ARE implying he's lying. Sorry, really not trying to be arsey but I don't get the difference between 'not the whole truth' and lying.
There's two sides to every story and neither side is perfectly blameless but that's the end of it. I don't know what you're hearing from elsewhere but we have enforced the rules as we set them and the end result was he used up his warnings, despite being 100% awesome to some members which is a shame but there we go. No more discussion about the banning please as the decision is final not up for debate. Please PM me if you would like to chat about it but talking about it here is neither fair on my team of volunteer mods or the member in question. Cheers
  20.
Hohner Simpson.
Ha!! I love it in this episode when he rocks out a groove and says 'My god, I'm amazing'
  21.
right I've found it, they've removed a load of likes from deactivated accounts, I always thought they were removed at the time the account was deactivated though, they certainly were when our drummer deactivated his, happened straight away
I think there's some small print about drummers
  22. Something to do with facebook removing as bunch of fake accounts recently I think. Iirc it says something about it if you look at your stats page?
  23. Cool tune thanks I'll listen to their other stuff. The bass rig looks a bit unstable and nearly falls over a couple of times. Stage must be made of beer crates.
  24.
Please find attached a suond sample. It is a tentative to emulate a notorious bass palyer that used to use Kubicki. :-)
Sounds and looks awesome. For anyone who doesn't know, to hear the clip, download it and rename the extension to .mp3 and it'll work.
