I've spoken to Elixir about the banner as I think it's the code there which is triggering it. Should hear back soon, will keep you posted. Sorry about this

Hi guys I'm getting married in April and we're on the lookout for a local band to play music during the ceremony bit/drinks before and afterwards. Initially I had hoped she'd let me have a full slap bass ensemble throughout but we've met halfway for an acoustic jazz trio/string quartet kind of deal. Generally a group who can set up in the corner (or maybe outside given good weather) and play some nice chilled music for a couple of hours. Setup at the venus (Gray's Court Hotel, York) looks good, though access is via stairs at both ends of the venue. You may also have to cover for me if I decide to leg it before tying the knot. Get in touch if you know of anyone who may be suitable or have recommendations! Many thanks ped

What do you need to get that "killer slap" tone?
ped replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in General Discussion
With an added bridge Jazz pup they can.
Or pickups in your fingers -
All you need is more practice time. Tone is in your fingers . Blue
Only to a degree. Nobody can get a Marcus slap sound from a P bass, for example. -
I can understand why companies don't always reply but I don't understand why they bother having social media presence or email addresses in the first place. The worst are car garages etc where you fill in a contact us form in the website. I don't know if those ever result in a reply!!

You may need some more relief (forward bow) in the neck. Personally I play very lightly and like a clack when I dig in, so I have my necks very straight, but usually you need some relief to allow for the strings to vibrate...

Did they ever make a 5 string graphite neck bass?
Not on here, but I had something similar on coffeforums.co.uk a while back , whereby objections seemed to be connected to the moving banner at the top of the page. Currently on this page they're showing Rotosound and Elixir. I have no idea of the technicalities of these things!
Aha. Elixir updated their banner a few days ago. Perhaps that's causing issues. I'll speak to them if it continues being a problem Thanks guys
Ditto (and also Cisco). I PMed ped too
Norris helpfully sent me some detail by PM if it's any help: "From what little information I have, the alert seems to have come from the Cisco WBRS reputation system. The site is classed as "Streaming Audio" and has been identified as containing malware."

My bass is like an old jumper. Electronically it's perfect, setup is bang on and hasn't moved or been changed in 10 years but the body has a few nicks, areas where the varnish has worn off and a few dings. I don't baby it at all but I'm careful with it but not so much that I worry about it. Like wearing an old fave jumper, compared to a brand new suit. I banged it in a door the other day and didn't even stop to check because it's OK. It would take a lot of abuse to do any damage and I couldn't really be comfortable with a pristine instrument just like I don't always wear a suit! She's 28 years old now and looks better with age, I suppose it's the bass equivalent of a MILF

Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain Blu-Ray Audio
ped replied to darkandrew's topic in General Discussion
As far as I know, he used his Fender Precision for all of his first stint (up to, and including Sparkle in the Rain) but I know he used his Vigier while touring the "Neapolis" album during his second stint with the band so may have also used it while recording that album.
Thanks for the info - I've got the two mentioned above so will give 'em a spin then see if I can track down his Vigier usage! I might be able to tell by listening but I'm not really a fan of live albums so a studio album is preferred. -
Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain Blu-Ray Audio

Which album would you recommend to a Simple Minds virgin, bassline wise? Pref. where Derek is playing a Vigier. -
Two settings (on my VB99 Jazz bass model) One - full both pickups, limiter, ampeg 810, bright off, ultra low+high on, centre mic, 50% DI - Marcus Miller slap sound (actually a copy of David Barard's sound from Dr. John) Two - Rear pickup only, limiter, Acoustic 360, Bright off, mid boost, 1x18 speaker, mic 1cm away from centre, 20% DI mix, flatwound string model - Burpy tight funk sound ala Me'shell Took me months to get these nailed but I'm so happy with them
Hello, I'm bringing this thread back to life. I've contacted banzaimusic too and they told me that although thay have the "sadowsky style" knobs they don't have the stacked one (for the VTC) wich I need. I need to replace them on my UV Metro 5 string . In the meantime do some new supplier show up ? or can you help me find out, in Europe, where to buy the stacked on to fit on my sadowsky? Thank you
I think I have one you can have - I'll upload a pic. I recently replaced a stacked one for two singles.
Try Fretwraps. Very, very easy to adjust the amount of mute and just push it over the nut when you don't need it. Leaves plenty of room to fret at the first.
That wouldn't mute anything you fret though would it? I had a bassmute and it was brilliant. Can't use one now as no room between my bridge and pickup.
This is common practice and is done in order to boost sales. Put Ozzy Osbourne next to his bass player on a magazine cover and it's likely that some Ozzy fans will buy the magazine, regardless of their interest (or lack of) in bass.
This. Dave is also a really good friend of the forum. Cool mag, cool guy, cool bass, cool gig.

NDMD: New Drum Machine Day! Elektron Analog Rytm
ped replied to tedmanzie's topic in Other Instruments
Thanks - yeah I have the drummer package in Garageband which is pretty flexible and fun. Where possible I like to avoid using the computer when I want a quick jam and prefer using hardware. It would just be for practice... I checked out that little Korg which looks great but a bit synthetic sounding. What didn't you like about the SR16? My only concern is how easily you can programme your own loops in, as it doesn't have that 'sequencer' look like the 808 etc..
