1. Just in case someone wants either the D'Addario or Roto sets that are left, I'll next be able to post on Tuesday. Cheers
2.
Hope not
hehe nah yours are fine Posted today by the way! Cheers
3. One pack of Rotos and one pack of D'addario's left!
4.
Have you kept them below room temperature?
It's possible that the Elixirs have melted into one big string, yes
5. Yeah I can't really do anything nowadays without slipping into Partridge. I was so pleased to be able to say 'I'm not driving a mini metro' a few weeks ago in a real life situation.
6.

😂😂😂 that's the picture I was looking for!!!

8. Correction - the seller has 'been' disappeared
9. I understand that it's not for everyone, but it does work out in the end for most people. Whilst you pay upfront there's no time limit to sell the item, there's no final fee and you get to sell it within a dedicated and passionate community. Being a member for the forum and just chatting about basses is just as welcome so it's all cool IMO ped
10. No problem I tend to deal with several payment problems a week and I always sort people out almost immediately. Because it happens largely by email/PM, people don't see how busy I am with my A* customer service Oh and it's been like that since day 1, no matter how much the company is 'worth' - even though we're not the 'Chat Partnership' any more. Cheers ped
11. Should be fine if you log out, clear cache, then try again. Failing that perhaps try another computer? Also try logging out of Paypal so you have to log in again when paying.. Cheers ped
12. Hi chaps This is what's happened - you've probably gone back a page during the listing/paying process and as such both 'items' have been added to your basket. You need to start all over again, probably clear your cookies too. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any problems ped
13. Elixir strings have been a sponsor of Basschat for several years now and they have offered several competitions and giveaways during that time. Elixir now want your help in testing their new and improved strings. They're offering 20 members the chance to test their new and improved Nanoweb coated strings in return for some feedback about them. The best feedback will win a year's supply of strings (3 sets) They say: When we set out to redesign our bass range, the first thing we did was listen. Working closely with the global bass community, we asked 4000+ players what they needed from a bass string, and recruited 1000+ players for field trials to help improve our protective NANOWEB® Coating. Their feedback drove the development of new Nickel Plated Steel and Stainless Steel Bass Guitar Strings. With improved performance and a wider choice, the new bass line that modern musicians demand is here. The Nanoweb coating has been improved to make it more durable (I'd be interested to see how pick players get on with them) and the tension, profile and feel have all been tweaked. The strings are available in nickel or steel depending on your tastes and Elixirs say the sound and feel is different, too. How do you enter? All I want you to do is to reply to this thread with the following information: Have you tried Elixir strings before? What other brands are you familiar with? What bass(es) will you try the new strings on? What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing) Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings? Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting) So - get posting. I've been using Elixirs for years now, and completely without bias I say they suit me down to the ground. A year's supply of strings for me would probably be a couple of sets because they just seem to last so well in my hands. My preference for the strings resulted in me contacting them a few years ago about advertising so I'm really pleased that the relationship between Elixir and Basschat has continued. For more information about the strings and to have a look at the sizes available, check out the site http://www.elixirstrings.co.uk/bass/ Winners will be contacted on the 23rd June(ish) and the strings will be sent out at the end of June. Please make sure you respond to the PM (private message) quickly if you're successful otherwise another winner will be chosen! We look forward to seeing what you guys think and good luck! ped This pic shows the Elixir Nanoweb coating, around the whole string rather than the wrap. This means the gaps in the wrap are protected. Table showing available sizes and some new additions to the range (all strings are the 'new' formula; the 'new' tag indicates it's a new/updated size being offered) And here's the Elixir logo, just for fun BUT DON'T JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! Here's a word from freelance session player Dan Lutz
14.
Note to Charic: Order plane tickets to Bolivia before Ped realises that we swapped his laptop for an Etch-a-Sketch.
Give me a couple of days to sketch you an answer
15. I'm biased as I used to have a '57 re-issue in shell pink, with white PG and all the ashtrays. I loved it and it looked great in the flesh. I'll see if I can find a pic...
16.
He's mine and you can't have him! Like he'd ever look at you anyway!
I definitely saw him first, anyway it's my forum so I'll just have the last word and delete the database and shut down the server
17. Chaps can we lay off the insults please. I'm sure Chris is flattered by you all arguing over him but let's not be silly.
18. I used my 2x10 as a bedside table at University
19. The best colour combination IMO. Looks beautiful. PM sent RE pics
20. Sorry David but you saw the same pics we did and legally there's nothing we can do to help. We've tried, but that's all we can do. Please continue any discussions by PM as it isn't fair on the seller for this thread to be turned into a debate which should be happening in private. Cheers ped
21. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about someone buying a bass and finding out it's not up to expectation. As ever make sure you get some good pics and meet face to face if possible. The mods have acted as a go between and some ground has been made but it's not something we offer other than as a favor to the parties concerned. Generally we are successful in reaching a satisfactory conclusion but both parties have to be willing to negotiate, naturally. GLWTS ped
22. Yeah we've been working with the member to try and help resolve the issue. Investigations and police intervention is ongoing. Worth reiterating again the FAQ when buying and selling. Not always possible, but worth bearing these in mind when carrying out a deal. Thankfully instances of this type are very unusual but we do get involved and help as much as we can. Cheers ped ---- Guidelines for BUYERS 1. Make sure you exchange contact details with the seller. Get as much as you can – phone number, address, email and full name are essential. Be vigilant of members not offering any details other than their username. 2. If in doubt about a seller's credibility, search the 'feedback forum' to see if they have sold before. Do not accept evidence of eBay feedback as there is no way of proving this is the same person. 3. Have a good look at the member who you are buying from. View their 'profile' to find out how often they are on the forum, how many posts they have made and how long they have been a member. Be extra careful of brand new members with few posts. 4. If you have a concern with the authenticity/originality/provenance/description etc of an item for sale, do not comment on the seller's thread as these comments will be removed by a moderator. If you believe an item to be fraudulent then please PM a moderator and we will do our best to arbitrate - otherwise simply move along. 5. If you believe the price of the item is too cheap/expensive, then please PM the seller as to why. Do not ridicule or undermine the seller by posting how much you think it's worth or how much it can be gotten for elsewhere, the laws of supply and demand will determine if the item sells at that price. 6. Always view the item if possible. At the very least request decent photographs.

Filter Quest!
I always preferred the FX25B to the straight FX25, added blend . Goes deep too! Si
I've never tried one but perhaps I should!
24.
I guess the pickup position would be one of the main reasons getting a "nasal" sound in a bass. The bridge pickup on a Ken Smith seems to be closer to the bridge than on most other basses, and so does the neck pickup, too. If you want to get the same sound, you should consider finding a bass with a similar pickup setup. A Stingray has its own unique pickup position, and maybe the Ken Smith is able to blend pickups to somewhat mimic the pickup position of the Stingray, but I doubt that a Stingray will get the same sound that the Ken Smith bridge pickup has.. So if you really want to get the same type of sound, get someone to measure the pickup positions on a KS and try to find something that is close with humbucker pickups.
Yeah that's a big part of it. My bass now is a Vigier which has a pickup right next to the bridge. Often I play through a Vbass and I've modelled a Ken Smith sound by doing exactly as you describe; I measured the pickup placement and moved a 'virtual pickup' into place, chose the type of pickup and voila. The main thing that shines through to me is the very 'rounded' and 'full' sounding treble which somehow underlines even the low end, giving it a clear and cutting tone. The most Ken Smith sounding Ken Smith I ever played was a Burner series bass which is their budget range. Should have bought it.

Filter Quest!

Interesting thread and I loved that FT2 review. Just a little shout out for the humble DOD FX25, still my fave filter pedal for the way it squelches the lows. I always found the Q-tron a little 'quacky' for my liking. I don;t have a clip to hand but here's a good one. It reacts quite differently depending on what type of bass you run through it but with the sensitivity set right you can get a really greasy sound: (not me playing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQyC1esbDG4
