1.
I won too, but I should imagine it's a 4 string set that I've won ? I don't own a 4 string bass, and use flats anyway, so look for mine in the 'other items for sale' section when they arrive. But it's nice to win something.
Hi, I've just checked and you've won a set of 5 string nickel plated 0.045's Cheers
2. I'll probably sound like I'm being paid to say this but Elixir strings are amazing, I've had my set on for a year now and they sound fantastic. Well worth a try if you havent already!!
3. Hi guys Yes the winners have been informed - I have the final list but only have real, not user, names. Look out for more competitions coming soon - let me know if you have any you'd like to see! Cheers ped
4.
My battered Aria Pro II SB Elite. Modifications started in the late 80s with the addition of a Hipshot D-tuner. Then came the Dimarzio Model One. Then the end of the fretboard was scalloped. Recently the original pickup died so I borrowed one from my Dean. Then I borrowed the Dean's preamp too...
Love this, it just looks like it's going to sound and feel awesome.
5. Great thread. There's something about modding a bass which makes it feel like 'yours' isn't there... Here's mine Vigier Passion GK by chiscocks, on Flickr Mods are: New pickups (bass was bought as an empty shell) and pickup surround, Marleaux pre-amp, GK Vbass pickup and 13 pin output.

9. Hi guys I've had to clear up the thread a bit as there was some direct selling and advertising going on. Please contact Karl directly by PM if you're interested in his straps Cheers
10. In 2007 I had a warning for using the word 'tits' on TB. This wasn't the main reason for opening BC but it was one of them! Funnily enough, BC's forbear 'Bassworld' was created off the back of a thread on Talkbass called 'British Bassists' or something. We thought "We should have our own forum". I rarely visit any more but I've always found it a friendly and informative forum. ped
11.
Great stuff, Nik and Colin While I'm sifting through the pics from the bash, I feel I really have to post one of Chimike with his awesome, still unfinished amp/cab jobby. It's the one at the centre of the group photo above, and we had stuck on the amp a piece of paper with "Ped" written on it!
Awe, thanks I was indeed with you all in spirit, up in sunny Yorkshire with my flatcap and so forth.
12. I just think it's fun to do, and when I watch a band who are enjoying themselves, it's infectious.
13. I thought it was interesting.
14. Now on iPlayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04n62k3
15.
It was the bit where Mitch Benn was acknowledging that slap bass isn't everybody's cuppa -- so our 'mention' was one quote from an 'isn't-slap-terrible' thread somewhere on the site, opining that "the only things that should be slapped are politicians and newborn babies' arses". So now the Radio 4 audience knows that we are miserable negative gits too
lol well I enjoy a good slap myself. It's not in iPlayer yet so will have a listen again later.
16.
Yay! Basschat just got a mention!!
Did we? I missed that. What did they say, good things I hope?
17. Spank the Plank Mitch Benn investigates the history of slap bass and even tries to learn the technique.
18. Currently a chat with Mark King...
19. Looks like a great time was had by all and my thanks of course to everyone involved. I know how much time and effort it takes to organise one of these and I say it every year - meets like this really help bind together the community. Sorry I couldn't make it this year but if it's any consolation at all, I did have a haircut today. Cheers ped
20. I e always loved my original FX25 but as others have said it's a one trick pony. It also reacts very differently to different instruments so when I had several basses it sounded great with the active Vigier but quite thin and subtle on my Marleaux. The main reason I like it is that when the signal going into the pedal pushes the unit it makes a nice squelch rather than some filters like the Q-tron that tend to whistle. The resale on them is good so I'd say buy one and try it. If you don't like it you can sell it again. I'm on my mobile so can't see your full profile but if you're in or near York you're welcome to borrow mine. Cheers Edit: ah just noticed the dates
21. Excellent! I used to have a V4 and it was the best sounding amp I've ever had, I think. Certainly up there with the Mesa 400+ /1516BE cab. I had new valves in mine - it came with some Ruby KT88s so I phoned Watford Valves and I'm 99% sure I got a matched set of these: http://www.watfordvalves.com/product_detail.asp?id=1081 Looking forward to seeing how you get on! Cheers ped
22. Enter this competition to win a custom scratchplate of your own design courtesy of our friend Tim at Scratch-it! Cheers ped
23. I can get our embroiderer to do hats, but it would take a minimum order to get the ball rolling. I'll speak to him and confirm prices etc - in the meantime, how about a show of hands of those who would like one? Cheers ped
