You mean so I can be ignored more easily, perhaps..?
Anyone with long hair
Fine with me - as a 'righty' I think 'lefties' are weird, but that doesn't mean we can just ignore them, does it..? * hides in cupboard under stairs *
Perhaps an extension to the 'ignore' function is in order
A lefty subforum would be brilliant, I intend to sell a cab on here in the coming weeks and would be happy to pay the 20 quid here than ebay fees of more. A place for lefty sales adds would be great and make me feel even more happy here than I already am.
OK thanks for that, I'll fly it up the flag pole and see what the others think. Ideally 'tagging' will catch on which will help everyone find what they're looking for, so we may also look at highlighting that field when people list, to suggest the kinds of tags they should put and how they'll help people find items. Thanks for bearing with us, I know it's not 100% perfect yet, however I feel we've arrived at a very comfortable half-way-house and can now rest up and plan how to further refine the system to make it even better. Cheers ped
Or make it a requirement to include 'LEFTY' in the FS thread title to make it searchable?
Yeah, one of the future developments we're planning (when we can afford it) is to have some tickboxes for things like number of strings, manufacturer and RH/LH etc to help with search indexing. I'm sorry the thread got closed, I wouldn't have minded leaving it open but it would be harder to moderate as it was already being subverted by someone listing there rather than on the forum. Perhaps a 'lefty' subforum might work, what do you think?

Yep, top folk at Rotosound http://blog.basschat.co.uk/basschat-visits-rotosound/
Closing this thread would be kind of sad, the lefty community here is but small and this thread makes it a lot easier for our fellow lefty forumites to find eachother, and to find cool lefty instruments both on and outside this forum. But I suppose we could make it a thread with links to our paid ads, instead of selling in this thread and getting around paying?
Absolutely fine - were not trying to cause any problems, quite the opposite - just see how we improve the service to you guys over the next year with a little money coming in. Thanks guys and peace ped

Hi, I'll speak to our dev and see. Probably best to post an update on the thread with reduced price. Perhaps edit title or first post. Cheers for the comments/support
I agree. I'm just wary of paying full price to offer a minority piece to an even smaller minority.
Well, you could argue that every piece of kit is only attractive to a small audience - with the differences between any two basses becoming greater and greater, selling in a supportive and knowledgeable community like BC has never been more important. Left handed players have less options, so you may well find a buyer more quickly. At the end of the day, we like to think (along with you, I hope) that BC is more than just a place to sell gear, and the payment does more than let you access the marketplace; it keeps the site running and improving, weather you sell stuff here or not. Cheers ped
I think that the making a charge for selling was inevitable really and I've no problem with paying if it means that the Forum keeps going. A question which I thought somebody else would have thrown in by now - what about people who put things up for trade only?? Is there going to be a charge for that? I think that the 4% statistic is a bit misleading too - how many of the 25,000 or so members are actually active - there are lots of members who haven't posted in years.
Hi, The 4% statistic was based upon users active in the marketplace over a recent period (I forget exactly) but bearing in mind how I emailed every single person who donated individually (and still do), I wasn't very busy! As for trade items, users state a trade value instead of a price. This will be made a little clearer in the next update when you post a listing. Cheers for the support ped
If they expect people to pay now to sell gear on here everyone will use ebay instead as has a larger online presence. Fair enough to ask for donations but the site should be completely free. Im sure there is plenty opportunity for page advertising from all sorts of music suppliers etc.
Well, we'll see. Initial indications show that people would rather sell to a specialist audience in a friendly and mutually beneficial atmosphere such as BC rather than via eBay with it's much higher pricing and lack of 'community'

Thanks guys yes one of the first things we plan on doing is upgrading the mobile app a bit. I was going to 'promote' the new payment section a bit but actually I'm leaving it to naturally tick over to give a more realistic idea of how it will run.
you're right - a user number does appear on my receipt. it seems like if i sign out, and then try to pay the subscription then it still directs me to paypal. so if you're not signed in, what user-info is the system collecting? note - this was just a test, i didn't complete the transaction. anyway, just a question, i expect its been tested.
Hi mate Yep that's right, the payment status is married to your user number, rather than user name. This means users may still change their username with no adverse effect on their payment status. Interesting point regarding the logged in/out bit. I'm changing it so only logged in users can proceed to payment. Thanks for raising it. ped
Cheers ped! I'm not about to sell anything just now, but I'll join in with the general BC love when I can.
We wouldn't be the same without you
Ah very good - I'll wait for this then if that's OK, as for very good reasons I absolutely loathe PayPal with a vengeance!
No problem at all - however if you want to list something now you can still use a debit card without having a PayPal account. Just click the second option on the paypal payment page (they've tried to hide it) Otherwise, feel free to get around to it when convenient for you. Cheers all ped

Hi guys As part of the £20 'subscription' fee (although it's not a subscription, as such), you'll have exclusive access to a 'sell anything' forum which will be arriving probably tomorrow. Posts here will be visible to any logged in member (so not the general public) and only users with a £20 yearly payment against their name will be able to create threads in the forum. We thought it might be a nice thing to offer you in return for your support with the site and our development. Cheers ped
As soon as paypal decide to give me the funds that have been placed in my paypal account for several items I have sold on here (something to do with being a new memeber of pp-bulls*it if you ask me), I shall be sending the 20 quid over to yourselves. Even if you don`t intened selling anything, it is worth it! In case I have missed it, how do you donate the money? Is it just through the donate button as normal? Forget the last statement. Ped answered the question as I was typing.
Hi mate Try the new 'Support BC' page at the top of the site. Thanks for that ped
Is there somewhere where we can see out subs? Even if it is a reminder as to when it is next due....
I don't think there's anywhere on site - we were careful not to produce a system where you could identify those who have paid and those who haven't, however you could always keep your PayPal receipt as a reminder. Also remember we'll have a card payment gateway in the next week or so. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the support everyone. Sorry about the site outage today. Please direct fellow low enders to the new 'support BC' tab at the top of the site. Cheers ped
