1.
This a a classic 'it wasn't broken but we've fixed it'... Who was complaining about the old 'market place' forum?? It was, and is. running perfectly well. This is really annoying to be honest.
Thought I had already explained it somewhere - it's to raise some funds for the development of the forums. We felt this was the fairest way to do it and want to at least try it and refine it as we go. Sure it'll divide opinion, but that's natural. Remember how many people HATED the new forum software? It's also much easier to work with for our mods. The fact of the matter is that we simply need a way if generating some cash and this is the fairest way to do it. I, and lots of other members, like it too. I think once its all done you'll find it really attractive and easy to use, especially as a potential buyer or browser. Can we all chill out, wait until its finished, try it and then either modify it or change it? We have got other ideas and we can always have a re think so don't worry. If anyone else has any other ideas we could use, shoot! Cheers ped
Hi. Just donated. I'm not a frequent poster, but I do love this site. If funds are tight for the site - if you love this place - I'd say donate a few quid, everyone! Cheers. jbn4001
Thanks everyone. We're just talking to a developer for some long term support and the recent donations are greasing the wheels. This will make us be able to bring in the support and modifications you want. Cheers
  3.
Ped... Is there a possibility that the clickthrough ratio on ads has dropped since the constant thread updates problem began? It must have affected traffic to the site, surely?
Yes we're feeling the difference mainly due to the mobile theme issues.
  4. Meant to say - the new section, when finished, will be customisable to allow threads below the posts etc. However that'll cost some dosh so until we start making some we'll adapt as we go.
Now we know where all the money went!
I'm about to order room service, get your money in NOW!! (Not really, I'm in the middle of nowhere with 14 sixth formers standing in rivers and stuff)
  6. Lets wait until its finished then try it. If we decide its not working we can look at alternatives. What would people say to a forum based area but where members must pay a fee to make a listing, say £20 a year or something? The reason for this new system is two fold, mainly because we think it'll make browsing easier with thumbnails and because it'll make some £ we need. Lets try it, remember its not finished yet.
  7.
Ped, et al question.... the old sales forums had some nice terms and condition which you had to abide by - where are they on the new one? Reason I ask is there currently is an item up with a price of £0.00 and asking for offers. Naturally I offered him the £0.00 he had stated but wondered what the rules were in the new sales forum - has it changed at all?
Hi Luke, no, not in principle. They will need re-wording to suit the new area but the same rules will stand. Thanks ped

I just hope that your words don't end up haunting you when you desperately need a lanyard for some reason. It could happen.

Thanks for the donations and purchases guys its all really helpful. The margin on polos and T shirts is fairly modest; somewhere around £4 after postage. I don't think they are ever a great way to raise funds but wanted to offer them more as a response to people asking and just for fun. The only way to make mega bucks in shirts is to do them In bulk but I don't have the space, time or funds to do it that way. I definitely need to take better pictures of the t shirts and photoshop my face out of the polo shirt pics. One job on the list is to create a better shop, so we're hoping to be able to spruce it up in due course and go as far as distributing gear from small businesses right here on BC. We also have made some huge progress with the blog which will be taking off soon with lots of exciting news and so forth. We'll keep pressing on - the potential and the enjoyment if it is what drives us, personally more than my day job most of the time. Cheers ped
  12.
Sorry if I missed this already, but the classified ads don't seem to be listed in 'view new content' for the forum. Is this likely to change, or is that how it is? Ta!
On the 'view new content' bit there's a classifieds bit you can highlight. That will bring them all up, albeit in a seperate filter to regular forum threads. Cheers

Thanks very much for the support with this guys.
On the grounds that I'm a luddite/not registered with Paypal/insecure because I've already had my CC a/c hacked once before (perm any one from three) any chance of an address that I can send cash to, via PM, will be appreciated?? Anyone doing so has every chance of getting a free live Slade CD along with the payment, second prize is TWO Slade CDs.
You should be able to pay using a card via PayPal without needing an account, I think.. Failing that, send me a PM! Thanks ped
Chris, may I remind you guys to please add a Twitter button/link at least to the home page. Our Twitter followers have increased by 100 since we took control of the account and started tweeting regularly and being responsive, and hopefully will continue to grow as more and more musicians and companies choose to keep up to date with the site through that medium. Edit: when I say "we" I mean you guys and me, I'm not using the Queen's plural...
Yes we have a guy on that - thing is the first thing we need to do is fix up to where we were and then do new things later. Thanks for the hard work in twitter, too.
  17.
okies....it all seems cool, but you know me by now. I like to evoke a discussion, and it looks as though i have.
Heh yeah that's what we're here for! Thanks for the input.
  18.
ahh...the filters..does that mean you dont like bumping and this is the solution? maybe i do like then. I just wish the search windows all over the site would be more specific, like searching the titles only instead of absolutely everying posted. So much irrelevant info in all search results .
Hi The new classifieds will bring about better results in the searching of that particular section. In other areas of the site we are looking at improving the search index and refining it some more, so rest assured its something we would like to improve, too. The new classifieds will look so much better when it's finished, too. Give it a while to settle in and we'll see how it's going then Cheers!
  19.
Is the classified section going to replace the 'For Sale' forums? I'm not fussed, just asking.
When it's finished, that's the plan. Lets see what happens Cheers!

    Help BC

Hi Basschatters I just wrote a massive thing all about the recent updates and the problems we're aware of, but then I posted it and I used HTML by accident, the formatting went and the whole post went tits up. So, instead, a short plea. The recent work has cost us every penny we had in the pot, and whilst the new section should raise funds going forward, it's not finished yet. So, with that in mind, can I just ask: Do you LOVE BC? Do you miss the little things like the 'go to first unread post' blobs/stars? If so, please help us by buying a BC lanyard. My friend Dave is waiting for your order RIGHT NOW. Buy a few and I'll see if I can get him to deliver them personally and shake your hand (or more) I know you might be thinking WTF am I going to do with a lanyard, well, all the money raised from them goes directly to BC (polos and T shirts we make very little on, to keep prices down) so you'd be helping us, at the very least. Alternatively please use this donations link: <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick"> <input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="6RNHURY9AJ684"> <input type="image" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/GB/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal — The safer, easier way to pay online."> <img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1"> </form> A huge thank you to everyone who has donated recently to help with the difficult past few days, we really are supping fumes now, but one more push over the top and we'll be stronger than ever once we're all fixed up and updated. Thanks for hanging in there and thanks in anticipation of your support. ped P.s - quick updates on current problems we're aware of:

'go to first unread post' blobs
'last post by... in...' bit at end of forum indexes
upload system borked
Malware (now fixed, though you may still see message until google take us off blacklist)
sidebar items missing
lots of smaller details - we'll bring them all back, don't worry
Kiwi still needs a bath
23. Yes, it's being fixed along with some other things currently. Thanks
