1. Hi mate, where in Bucks are you? I am moving to Maidenhead soon. ped
2. Sorry to hear this mate - it seems several people have had trouble with this member, and after the language he used in contact with a moderator I am going to put his posts on moderator approval for the time being. ped
3. Both now sold, thanks Cheers for the info Mike, I have done this before with other gear but I am unable to confirm or deny when I will be in for a collection so it wasn't really an option unfortunately. Cheers ped
4. Classic post. Agreeing with my POV? Check. Use of words like Abhor and Vehemently? Check. Use of word Monkey? Check.
5. How come?
6. Wikip.. oh :0)
7.
Nice crop, you have a better eye than I do. I like the colour though the light green and brown are really complimentary. Anyway - Avatar?
Yeah I think I like the colour too, I'll set it as my avatar on a trial basis :0)
8.
Is true. I took these on an old Sony digital point'n'shoot that cost me 40 quid on fleaBay. Quite pleased with 'em.
Stunning pics Rich... just goes to show, you can give a crap camera to a good photographer but the best camera in the world is useless in the wrong hands!
9.
Have you got a pic of your rig, Ped?
Not a very good one I'm afraid but you can see it behind and to the left of this pic from the SEBB I'm very pleased with it. I don't think SWR make those cabs any more though. ped
10. OK Tim, here is a square crop, and to satisfy Rasta's request for a black and white image I put it to greyscale too. ped
11. Sorry mate I think it'll be a bit of a ballache to post. ped
12. Yeah, the poweramp has XLR or 1/4" inputs. I run it in stereo; one side driving the 4x8 and the other with the 1x15 giving me independent vol control over each cab. I was REALLY impressed with the way it filled the auditorium during my demo at the SE Bass Bash. I think it sounded better than my old Mesa rig. ped
13. Hi Guys This is pretty much brand new condition, only used a handful of times. There might be a 'melted' part on the front handle somewhere from memory but nothing to worry about. The case is in Witney, Oxfordshire. I currently live in Oxford itself, and I am moving to Bourne End/High Wycombe/Cookham area in a few weeks so anywhere near there for collection would be great, I don't want to ship it. £35 collected? Cheers ped
14. I am really loving my 1u digital poweramp and my SWR compact cabs (one 4x8 and one 1x15) they sound sweet and are not half as bad as a 4x10 and standard 1x15. Not THAT light but not too heavy either. The whole setup cost about £300, too... ped
15. No problem Rick it was good old eBay.. The Samsung GX1L is the same as a Pentax *Isd or something, pretty entry level. Works well though. Was just talking to my best friends granddad who was the photography lecturer at Oxford Brookes for 40 years - he looked at my pics and liked them, and gave me some advice. Really great to have him on hand, and when I come to upgrade my camera he will be pointing me in the right direction! ped
16.
do you have a tripod
I got a Gorillapod SLR zoom for Xmas from my grandfather but didn't use it here, mainly because I didn't have enough space behind the camera to see through the lens with a tripod, so went hand-held, but a well supported position using my knees and so on!
17.
I'm thinking something like this would be a good start before I invest I can see how I get on. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/S5100/S51A.HTM What do you think?
I think you might as well get an SLR because you can play with different lenses and that is where things start to get really interesting. How much dosh do you have? I got my camera and two lenses for about £300 ped
18. What are you going to go for? The reason I went with the Samsung (which is basically a modified Pentax) was that there are loads of lenses available quite cheap.
19. Hi Wayne Looks good - nice idea. The main thing I find that really improves a pic is the area around the subject. A simple floor is fine but it doesn't help 'pop' the instrument. Think about shadows, depth of field (the distance in focus behind and in front of the subject) and the composition. Also attention to detail (removing random items in the frame, straightening things up) make the pic much neater to look at. Try that pic again from directly above and see if you can clear a bigger space of floor so nothing else is in the frame. A nice wooden floor might look nicer too perhaps. Cheers ped P.s I don't now what I think gives me the right to give advice!
20. I have a Warwick one for sale, collection only from Oxford - give me a shot if interested. ped
21.
Nice one Ped! I look forward to you using your lens on my lil collection soon! Si
Me too Si, should be fun. I'm moving very soon so will be in touch for a 'photoshoot'!!
22.
Ooh they're nice pic. Hey Ped I just looked at my Thumb on the way into the room and actually the shape's not that much different to your Vigier, pickup positions aren't that different either, maybe I ought to like them more.
Yes you should young man!
23. Hi dudes Thanks for all the nice comments. It was indeed ISO 800 (this camera seems to have a 'sweetspot' at 800) and shutter at 1/25 and the aperture is 2.0. The lens is an old Pentax Asahi fixed 55mm f2. Only cost me about £50 and it's a really great lens, and has to be used in manual mode which is forcing me to learn what works fast. It also helps me with the 1950s film 35mm camera my grandfather gave me which again is all manual. My camera isn't anything special, a Samsung GX1L DSLR. One day I'll upgrade to the GX20. The 'kit' lenses are great too, an 18-55 and a 50-200. The samsung cameras are basically slightly modified versions of the Pentax models. I like 'em and it's a bit different from the Canon/Nikon club! ped
