1. Thanks - now you mention it we have changed TVs recently - swapped a broken one for an older crapper one we had as a spare. The TV and the mixer run from the same outlet so perhaps the problem is there... I will investigate tomorrow as I have had more than enough of buzzing and tangled cables for one evening. I can't think of anything I dislike more than cables in general. EVERYTHING should be wireless!! ped
2. Hi folks Usually at home my Vbass and my brothers Vdrums go into a stereo mixer (via a pair of 1/4" jacks each) and we also plug in an ipod or similar to the stereo RCA Tape In jacks, usually sounds fine. Recently the music has started to hum incredibly loudly or the music sounds really glassy like it is encoded at 1kbps. Twiddling the lead sometimes seems to work, and other times not... you can twiddle it a LOT and it might do nothing or literally touch it and it works for a few seconds. However, it isn't the lead, and I am pretty sure it isn't the RCA jacks because the same thing happens when I plug the ipod into any other channel in mono or stereo - and guess what, it isn't the player either because we use several players into the mixer. Bloody confused and pissed off ped
3. Excellent review, thanks. I like the handle, very clever, and the vents will keep it nice and warm!
4. A bit of info on the bass: The bass is quite unique in how it is made. First of all the neck is 10% carbon and 90% maple. The carbon rods are 75% carbon so overall the neck is stronger than the graphite weave Vigier used to use. You also get the added benefits of the sounds from the maple. There is no truss rod so the neck is engineered with the 'textbook' amount of relief (A credit card thickness). The pickups are two Benedetti single coils - extremely high output and very clear. The pre-amp is a rotary eq frequency selector and a cut/bypass/boost switch. There is a master volume and a tone control which affects only the bridge pickup. Those crazy French. Serial # - 086 - 23/04/1991 5 string Custom model - Maple/alder/Maple body NECK Neck through body, featuring the 10/90 Neck System™ (10% carbon with 90% naturally dried and aged maple wood). 7.
Not so much me, but my mother! Was having a quick chat about music with Richard Bona (as you do) at one of his shows at Pizza Express Jazz club in soho, pretty nervous you know, and my mum comes up and says to me mid-conversation.... "Tell Richard how many basses you have Simon" She obviously had the best intentions, and was just trying to try and make me look like a 'serious bassist in the eyes of Mr Bona'......but I probably went a little red lol Si
Hahahaha I can defo hear my mum saying that!!!
8.
Met Janek Gwizdala while he was warming up on the Markbass stand and Steve Lawson at the bar at Bass Day 2005 and just didn't know what to say to either of them other than "you're awesome man... I mean... you're really awesome... wow... you're awesome!" That was also quite awkward.
I met him and offered to buy him a drink at the bar. He said he didn't drink so I made a super lame joke about your body being 70% fluids and how did he survive - he didn't get it and looked at me like I was a mentalist. Ah well, not my fave player anyway!!
9.
+1 for Marvel
+1!!
10.
A Root ( perhaps thats just me )
haha I like it!
11. I have a special advance copy of this album and can confirm it is one of the best albums I have heard... just fantastic. Here is a lil preview:

Show us your rig!

Love the SWR. Top stuff.
13. Turns out it was Roland's fault and Dawson's have apologised and agreed to order the correct item and have this one collected. Just thought I should set the record straight as Dawson's seem to be handling things amicably. Cheers ped
14. Well it looks like such adverts divide opinion at best, probably narrowing the audience and leading ultimately to an unsuccessful sale. I think it's a bit of a grey area which should be clarified a bit one way or another, so we will have a chat about it. I am inclined to leave it be because to be honest the marketplace is a bonus and not really what we are about so having lots of rules and regulations there takes our focus away form other things. Let's see what happens. Cheers for bringing it up and discussing it. ped
15. TBH having tried custom moulds and more expensive models I have always gone back to Shure E2Cs with foam inserts. They give a sound that is identical to my bass through the desk so I know what I hear is what is going to record and live they reduce the sound of the surrounding band just the right amount - I can still hear them clearly but it feels like CD volume, and I can set my in ear bass level to match. Works great for me! Cheers ped
16.
I'm gonna bring a high-class escort like I did to my school reunion. That and the rented Porsche.
How are you gonna drive an Escort AND a Porsche?
17. After a 3 week wait for a Roland GK kit for BASS guitar (http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/info_00061908.html ) , they send the guitar version ( http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/info_00061906.html ) I have said they better send the right version ASAP (will be 3 weeks at best) and i will send back the one I have if they send a prepaid postage label with the new one. Probably should have gone direct to Roland.
18. You can fix it on with double sided numberplate tape, from most good motorist centers. I used that on my Bacchus jazz and it was so solid I didn't ever bother screwing it on and making the holes.
19. I wouldn't bother with Music Live, but Bass day would be worth it - it's an amazing event and really fun. There isn't much room for trade stands so you might want to double up with someone else who is there like John East. Actually Music Live might be OK if you get a lot of guitar playing customers - but there is not very much there for bassists. ped
20.
"Marvin". The Carvin BB75 I have that has had a Marleaux Neck installed. Every time I think I have found another Bass I prefer, I pick Marvin up and it just plays and sounds superb. A hard act to follow as a £2K Bacchus found out.
Yeah, Marvin ROCKS - amazing bass in every respect.
21. Sorry mate no I sold this a while ago. I think you can order them direct from Atelier-Z. ped
22. That might be an option. It might mess with my head in terms of organisation though but with a little effort I could probably sort that out for the next order... Thanks for the tip ped
23. Unfortunately I was only able to buy about 75 T's in total this time as I didn't have much spare cash lying around. I am giving T shirts to the mods, so we won't be making any profit on the batch. In fact they may very well end up costing me, but it's all good to spread the word of the site. The next batch will be of a similar size (I can only afford to write off a few hundred to sink into this at the moment) and when sold I will be able to use that money to get a bigger batch and so forth. Apologies it is taking so long but I have been fairly hard up these last few months! Cheers ped
