What you need IMO is something like Osiris suggests, or my previous mention of 'fret clank' to give a defined brick walling of the note in order to accentuate the attack. If you think of a soft played note as going 'buhhh' then a more piercing attack needs something to make it stop simply getting louder and too bassy. Fret clank is often mistaken for rattle/choking, but really it's the initial attack of the string, akin to slap bass, which produces a clear fundamental which helps deliver the note and cut through the mix. A limiter or a compressor can definitely help give the instrument a shelf where everything sits and anything over that limit no longer detracts from the rest of the mix. I prefer a limiter with a high threshold which I can adjust until I feel the sound sits in the mix. This way, when you get energetic and play harder than normal, you don't need to worry about being too loud or the rest of your baseline getting lost.

Yeah I had that a few times, and found that restarting my phone worked; however upon restarting I suddenly had four BC 'apps' on my screen... but the notifications worked and only came through once. -
Alright BCers I have recently bought a Backbeat G2 which I absolutely love. I even like the special cable that's designed for the unit, unlike everyone else on the planet (so it seems!) The cable is just a little bit long for me; I've bunched it up with a cable tie but I wondered if anyone here would be able to shorten the cable for me if I buy one from Bass Direct and send it to you?

Super low action and play 'into' the string. I use a super light touch and with low action and little relief, even a tiny change in finger energy can yield a totally different sound. I think that to get a more defined sound, fret clank is essential.

Have you considered a supporting membership? It’s the least we can do to help you through this 😀

Yes very possibly 😂

I have their Degenerate TB pickup and Surfrider single coil in my Mustang bass. I went for Gemini because I had a chat with the owner on Facebook and he was helpful in advising me which combo to go for. They came really nicely packaged and the pickups themselves are great quality - @Andyjr1515 who fitted them mentioned that they were very nicely made. I'm really REALLY happy with the sound of them both. Even right up agains the bridge the Surfrider is really high output and thick sounding. They blend together really well and I couldn't be happier. The lead time for the pickups to be made is (or was) quite short and I believe they were delivered earlier than expected.

I’ve had a few of these (they’re standard on series 3 Vigier basses). I wasn’t a fan to be honest - the main issue being that to adjust the action you needed to screw up/down the string saddle which in effect was a big grub screw with a slot in the top. That meant that if your preferred height happened to be when the slot was aligned, great - otherwise you couldn’t adjust it very finely. As a fan of super low action, the lowest setting was only just enough because the bridge itself was quite high.

100% 👍🏼

To be honest we could do with a courier who accepts musical instruments 🎸

Hi folks A friend at work is borrowing my mustang and learning bass. Due to partly my influence but also the music he intends to play, he's tuning the bass DADG. I was going to print out some learning materials for him, such as the notes on the fretboard, but couldn't find anything decent online, they're either for guitar or standard tuning, or more complex than I need. Short of making one myself, is anyone able to help me find a few starter printouts that might be useful, in drop D? Cheers

So, it turns out that the Airstep cannot control my WAZA Air bass headphones, only the guitar version and basically anything else on the planet. As a result I’m selling mine if you’re interested in trying it. I’d use it for controlling my computer but it’s a bit wasted doing just that. It’s brand new, I got it for £150… I’ll post it in the marketplatz later.

Contours were added in ‘69 with the introduction of the ‘competition’ Mustang (stripes) -
Mine would be Mutron III+ (prefer it to the original!) EHX Russian Bassballs That would do me. As long as I had a compressor.

Get one and fill it with big pickups, you know you want to 😁 -
I’ve been cork sniffing my ODs and Fuzz pedals again today and I still really like the Bass Juice. It breaks up the low end giving it a nice rasp without there being too end fizz when you play the skinny strings. Sounds great in a mix.

Fantastic! That looks great. Bringing back good memories of the original Vbass. No, I don't think there was a desktop editor for that model. Honestly I don't use the VB99 one either; I prefer to do it all on the unit which by design makes adjustments easy and intuitive. I don't think there's a way to exchange patches except via MIDI or some such - in the past I've just shared pictures of the settings on the screen! The Vguitar forums are great, lots of super knowledgable people there. You'll probably see some posts from me on there, same username I think.

Form is part of the function for me. If it looks cool, I want it to work. Sometimes it doesn't, which is a shame, and other times I've had basses I didn't like the look of as much which played really well. So like anything, it's a balance. What's really nice is when you find an instrument that looks great and plays great too.

Temple audio have been quite helpful. They said the bolts are M4 so I could just get some of my own and put them through a washer. Ideally the mounting plate needs to sit flush as there are some ears which lock the plate in place to stop it rotating but that wouldn’t be an issue if I either do it up tight or use two plates on bigger pedals. So I might go for it.

Fingers crossed you get your money back and you can walk away from this whole sham deal. What a letdown.

I know I do! I was reading up about it recently in fact, and it's quite interesting how different systems developed due in part to the types or roads available and the sorts of loads being transported. I tend to drive roughly in the middle and judge each inbound vehicle on a case by case basis.

That's the way to do it - find one that's been modded already and do it again, properly. I've seen a few come up, mostly vastly overpriced, but I'll keep my eyes open for any more.
