1. Got any pics of the flight case? Might be interested :0)
2. Oh yes Mark at Bass Direct could teach most shops a thing or two about customer service. Darren at The Bass Merchant, too. Let's hear it for the few remaining good guys out there!
3. Here is a fretless version where you can see its original layout: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7466/vi...eltamtalgo4.jpg Cheers ped
4.
Does this Vigier have a carbon fibre neck? Is that the original bridge?
Allow me to field this one: The bridge is not original. The original one was a sort of custom affair with cylindrical barrels and what not. The bridge has been put in the place of this system and looks like it fits quite well. The Schaller 3D was fitted to Passion basses of the same era. The neck is pre-carbon; Vigier used a brass laminate under the fingerboard (ebony IIRC) for stability and y all accounts it worked very well, the hardest part was getting the materials to bond, according to Patrice Vigier. Crazy and unique French design - with stunning and innovative results. Top drawer! ped
5. Ignore the menu on the left and use the buttons at the top and you can find the Ray.
6. The edges of the body are slightly less contoured and the top horn on the Marleaux is slightly teardropped as you can see here. http://doctorbass.net/blog/wp-content/uplo...om-cuerpo-3.jpg
7. Ah yes I have seen these - a direct copy of the Marleaux Consat body shape. Looks nice for £350
8. Brilliant, thanks for sharing it. I think it should be made into a book! I will have fun looking through all the companies I have never heard of! ped
9. Something like that probably yeah. You could call them for more information on 01865 553777. Let us know what they say!
10. yeah quite. About the same as Kiwis if you have tried that. Possibly a bit heavier actually.
11. Haha yeah I probably would have got away with it too. Well you know where it is... do you need a box?
12. Just popped into the Oxford Guitar Gallery to get a cardboard box and saw they have a nice 70's stingray in natural with black scratchplate. Very worn and used, bullet truss rod and 3 point neck plate and original foam mutes at the bridge. Bloke didn't seem to know much about it but picked £1200 out of the air as an opening price. Might be worth checking out for someone! The neck was dead straight. Cheers ped
13. Hi Musky, Yeah, for some reason I was thinking of the bridge cover, not the pickup cover. I only realised when I called Crowman last night. Cheers ped
14.
do i see someone holding an alembic in that photo?
Mark King!
15. Bass provisionally sold pending funds, cheers ped
16. As used by Mike Porcaro in the 'Rosanna' Video IIRC
17. Which I do - maybe I should check something out!! Cheers! ped
18. Fair play to the old bean
19.
Deep blacks? think you need to calibrate your monitor cos you can hardly see anything in those shots.
Ah really! They look great on here (Sony VAIO screen which is very nice so perhaps I am biased) Cheers ped
20. Ha! Let me know if you find one - apparently the one on the Grabber bass is the same...
21. Ooh no I much prefer the deep blacks! Thanks though!
22. This bass was very kindly donated to Basschat and is up for sale by yours truly to raise some funds for the site. I don't know much about the bass but it was made in japan somewhere between 1971 and 1976 I think. It has two pickups and a front/middle/back position switch, tone and volume controls. The electronics are pretty old and I have cleaned them up a bit to reduce the noise, so it is within expected limits now. The neck is great - very straight and has a nice profile, somewhere between a P bass and a Stingray I think. The strings are fairly old roundwounds but I will include a set of shortscale flatwound strings, also donated by a Basschat member. I have taken some pics of the bass, but I should be able to post some sound clips too later in the week. It's sound is hard to describe - the neck pickup is louder than the bridge, and gives a boomy sound. With both pickups there is a sort of 'plummy' and very rounded sound, and with the rear pickup only the thing sound quite tight and pretty funky. The action is as low as it can go (any lower and the string hits the metal bridge pickup cover) and is well within limits, probably too low for some, so plenty of scope for adjustments. It should have a bridge cover, but I am told the cover is the same as the one found on current Epiphone basses, so should be easy to pick up if you so desire. It has a few screws loose/missing (much like the seller) but should be an easy fix. It certainly is a cool and funny little bass. I will miss it! I am in Oxford if you would like to come and try the bass. I would prefer to meet you somewhere around Oxfordshire or within a shortish distance rather than post, but can post if you so wish, at your own risk. Let's see if it shifts at £130. There is no case unfortunately. Cheers ped
23. Kiwi has a graphite series I
24. Congratulations on the wedding, and congratulations on being able to keep a couple of basses. You must have hidden them well! Cheers ped
