1. Ooh no I much prefer the deep blacks! Thanks though!
2. This bass was very kindly donated to Basschat and is up for sale by yours truly to raise some funds for the site. I don't know much about the bass but it was made in japan somewhere between 1971 and 1976 I think. It has two pickups and a front/middle/back position switch, tone and volume controls. The electronics are pretty old and I have cleaned them up a bit to reduce the noise, so it is within expected limits now. The neck is great - very straight and has a nice profile, somewhere between a P bass and a Stingray I think. The strings are fairly old roundwounds but I will include a set of shortscale flatwound strings, also donated by a Basschat member. I have taken some pics of the bass, but I should be able to post some sound clips too later in the week. It's sound is hard to describe - the neck pickup is louder than the bridge, and gives a boomy sound. With both pickups there is a sort of 'plummy' and very rounded sound, and with the rear pickup only the thing sound quite tight and pretty funky. The action is as low as it can go (any lower and the string hits the metal bridge pickup cover) and is well within limits, probably too low for some, so plenty of scope for adjustments. It should have a bridge cover, but I am told the cover is the same as the one found on current Epiphone basses, so should be easy to pick up if you so desire. It has a few screws loose/missing (much like the seller) but should be an easy fix. It certainly is a cool and funny little bass. I will miss it! I am in Oxford if you would like to come and try the bass. I would prefer to meet you somewhere around Oxfordshire or within a shortish distance rather than post, but can post if you so wish, at your own risk. Let's see if it shifts at £130. There is no case unfortunately. Cheers ped
3. Kiwi has a graphite series I
4. Congratulations on the wedding, and congratulations on being able to keep a couple of basses. You must have hidden them well! Cheers ped

6. P.s Nik I have added this thread to the 'site news' bit so now it comes up at the top of the forum list. ped
7. I don't recall the pod making much noise. Pretty quiet as I remember. See you at the bash! ped
8.
nobody needs a mac, everyone needs a bass synth
+1! never a truer word spoken!
9. Bet that plays like a dream. V nice indeed.
10. Hi Jack, I am afraid I no longer use a Line 6, I have the Roland Vbass instead now. I am sure someone will bring a pod though. Having said that, they are difficult units to 'audition' in that environment. You need a lot of time with them to get the settings nailed. Still fun though Cheers ped
Influences include The Smiths, Minus The Bear, Million Dead, I Like Trains.
..And that's ruled me out too! :0(
12. Me too - well watch this space I guess.
13.
Perhaps the penny has dropped
They have been in contact with us and are keen to improve their standing and reputation with Basschatters. I hope your positive post is a step in the right direction. Has anyone else had a positive experience there? ped
14. I have had the same set of Elixirs on for over a year and I love them - they still sound brand new (swapped them for some new ones and then swapped back!) I guess I just don't sweat at all!!
15. Nice. I wonder if LeFay used Alembic electronics in all their original basses before making their own? Very nice and good luck! ped
16.
I forgot to mention that I did notice a loss of tone compared to normal wood necks, my KB did sound quite cold at times and left me as such. I don't know why, but I don't think I could ever go custom without the fear that my fussiness would just get the better of me and I would no doubt end up moving that bass on.
OK fair enough, but that's just one way of using graphite. I find them a bit cold, too. Lots of ways to kill a cat!
17. I am trying to remember an album I have with one of these on it with some big name player. Can't quite remember!! Are the Alembic electronics original? Lovely looking thing! ped
18. Plenty of other Graphite makers out there Josh -I couldn't see myself with one of those either!
19. Hehe that's one way of doing it!
20. I share your setup tastes - have you considered graphite?
21. I might bring Nellie

23. It has some different outputs... if you look at the site, the XT Pro has SP/dif (or something) ins and outs and a couple of other things. In terms of the sound and software they are identical.
24. Yeah it is expensive - initially I was just using the headphone output with the foam tips on my headphones so I could hear myself perfectly but the sound of the band filtered through, too. It was very cheap and worked really well in some venues.
25.
A) If you are plugging direct into the PA you don't need a power amp at all - just plug the Pod into to the PA directly for the front of house sound. What you might need, though, is some type of "monitor" system so that you can hear yourself playing - either a feed back from the PA mixer to a monitor or a separate feed from the Pod into a small amp/cab or monitor.
I gigged a few times like this and for my personal monitoring just used my Shure in ears from the headphone jack. Sounded great and worked a treat. Still do it now and again, and always in the studio.
