The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
ped replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Cheers! I say go ahead - if you're interested in experimenting you could always route a neat pickup trench to accommodate a variety of pickups, then get a few scratchplates so once you have chosen your favourite you can cut out the shape on the PG to match. I've always subscribed to the notion that the location of the pickup is the most important factor as opposed to the variety of pickup itself, so I think in the same position the same mustang sound will be there plus or minus some character from the pickup. -
Yes I believe so, process probably similar
-
I was about to say that it looked as if the Mustang had been moulded in the proper vintage shape as opposed to the newer reissue shape where there's quite a bit more body behind the bridge but I realise that they've gone with the bigger body again for some reason. It's a particular quirk that nobody else cares about but it annoys me!

Sounds like a textbook day out, and I believe it’s still legal to shoot someone from a horse in some parts of the country but you’ve got to use a bow and arrow 🏹

Ok sir I’ll drop it off tomorrow 😀

Boss Waza Air Bass - update to v1.30
ped replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Accessories and Misc
Some members of the XSTEP group on Facebook have confirmed that the BW version of the Airstep pedal doesn't work with the bass version of the waza air (are you confused yet); something to do with a slightly different Sysex which could easily be changed with a firmware update but isn't yet. However the full fat Airstep does apparently work with basically anything, so it's a good job I have one on the way... -
Done mate, congrats on the new amp

Boss Waza Air Bass - update to v1.30
ped replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Accessories and Misc
The instructions are to turn off the Bluetooth on the phone/whatever the wazas are connected to, turn them on ‘in Bluetooth mode’ then switch the pedal on and they should connect. I’ve tried it both in pairing mode and just regular slow blinking mode (as the manual doesn’t really state whether Bluetooth mode means pairing or not) but either way nothing happens. I’ve updated the firmware and tried the beta release but neither work. The pedal appears as wanting to pair on other devices so it’s reaching out but apparently ignoring the wazas… -
Boss Waza Air Bass - update to v1.30
ped replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Accessories and Misc
Hm, Airstep BW doesn't connect to my Waza Air Bass at all, just doesn't seem to work. So that's good. Maybe it only works on the guitar Waza cans? -
Sure will do. And yes it’s through an app (which I have downloaded and played with, it seems fine). I’m sure you’ll probably know better than me that there are apparently ways to run iOS apps in MacOS without the silicon chip (as I think you’ve got an older one like me).

Boss Waza Air Bass - update to v1.30
ped replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Accessories and Misc
Ok I’ve done some more research and decided to go for the full fat Airstep. Found one on eBay for a good price (unused but second hand). It lets me control hardware and my computer too. -
Slight update. I posted about a Bluetooth/Midi and hardware footswitch in the Boss WAZA Air thread and it turns out their top level pedal does everything I need in terms of controlling my computer as well as allowing me to control my WAZA headphones on the go. Managed to get one on eBay so I’ll let you know how it goes, it certainly looks very capable. https://xsonicaudio.com/pages/airstep

It looks cool, and it solves the problem of the slightly fragile 13 pin and the potential need for a breakout box. One of my basses has a 13 pin output next to the standard jack - I wonder if they offer the internal installation kit for the bass pickup which might let you use a standard cable in the same output as the new Serial jack. That would be quite cool.
-
So will that be able to carry the individual data from each string as the 13 pin does? Or will it kind of sum it up and then the device at the other end have to interpret that?
-
Weird - the GK Serial system completely passed me by. I'll need to research it to see how it works as I presume it's a bit more than a stereo cable. I'm glad they've made a junction box, but again they've neglected to put an effects loop on the box or the GK800
-
Interesting. I’m glad the GK system is still being developed. But why is there no 13 pin input on the unit, it looks like you need an external box to convert a GK signal to a 1/4” cable but surely that won’t carry the string by string information to be able to access the full potential of the GK pickup?

Who's good for couriering basses at the moment?
ped replied to franzbassist's topic in General Discussion
I had the same form UPS once, they said they'd cover the extra fee so not to worry, but I wonder if they realised that they were in fact wrong after all as it was measured properly! -
OK good to know, thanks - I think that would work for me because I'm mainly looking to use it for playing ta my computer. It could fit quite neatly in front of my Bassboard so that hinge arrangement could work better actually, I didn't even consider that.

I use UPS (they have a drop off near me, so I'm not waiting in all day for collection) with Secursus protection added separately. Normally works out at about £40 in total. No problem yet, I'm not selling much compared to some but obviously until a problem happens I still can't 100% be sure. For now it's the best I can get to reassure myself. As BigredX said, it's all down to the weakest link, which could be anyone at any company any of the time. At least with this way I know the guy at the drop off but from there it's pot luck really. -
My mum used to type up medical reports and she had something exactly like this for advancing and rewinding one of those tiny tapes.
-
Amazing, thanks, that looks bang on. Maybe I can post on Basschat using my feet one day. Thanks for the link, as long as it works on my ancient iMac then I think I'm good to go.
-
Ah yes very possibly, thanks I didn’t think of that.

Alright guyszz I’m thinking out loud about a pedal which could be used to control playback on Spotify. Just pause/skip back etc. I have seen this one which works with YouTube among other platforms (I’ve asked if it works with YouTube music or just video player) but it doesn’t support Spotify which is where most of my playing-along with happens, or Moises which is my next most used playback app. https://vidami.com/collections/all/products/vidami-blue I doubt there’s anything out there but I’d love to be wrong!!

And just in case you didn't believe me:
