1. Problem for me is that because my action is so low, smooth and fast, and the bass is so responsive to every touch, when I play another bass which pretty much always has a higher setup, I sound awful. I feel like my hands are numb or something! I guess I am crap at playing any other bass than my own!! Quite interesting to note how different people play though - I play REALLY lightly and my friend Chris really digs in. It sounds great, too - but we are useless on each other's basses!! I can't get this sound without my action - light trebly click with smooth deep defined bass, badly played: http://dl-client.getdropbox.com/u/85432/US...%27s%20Wrap.mp3 Cheers ped
2. Personally I think coffee tables are usually rather plain!
3.
I waited around three years before I ordered my first Sei, though I'd just got my custom fretless and was very happy with it, and during that time I tried loads of amazing basses both boutique and stock models, and this gave me loads of info on the different qualities I wanted from my Single Cut. The whole process of deciding what I wanted and the subsiquent wait time and my increased knowledge of wood combinations, different pups and circuit all helped me decide alot faster and with increased confidence how I wanted my Sei Jazz to be, I also trusted Martin's decisions and creative instincts more and I couldn't be happier with the result. Patience is the key, it also helps you save up for these things which I did for both Seis, no worries. M
I think we have similar tastes bass wise Mike - of all the BCers basses I have played yours is up there as one of the best playing, IMO
4.
fair enough, i agree, if you're content with what you've got, you don't tend to moan about other people's things unless asked first.
...which is why you raised the topic and we are able to have an interesting thread without it being locked (can't find the TB one now!)
5. I think he meant in the context of starting a topic about it on a forum as opposed to just thinking it to yourself. I am not having a go, you understand, but the idea resonates with me, at least.
6. There was a similar thread on TB recently (that was locked...) and one guy said something fairly wise "If you were happy with what you have, you wouldn't criticise what you don't" ;0) ped
7. This topic comes up all the time when I visit watch forums. So many people say 'why spend a few grand on an automatic watch when a £10 quartz keeps better time?' Half the time you can't even see my watch because it is under a cuff or something. I don't care if nobody notices, I didn't buy it for anyone else - but it is something I can be proud of, something that serves as a reminder of a milestone in my life and a piece of engineering which I am fascinated by, but 99% of the people I meet would be getting a straight jacket ready. With 'custom' basses the same sort of thing is true - the pleasure comes from playing and owning a comfortable, quality instrument made often specifically for you, the way you like by someone you feel understands your approach and unique style - you are more than a customer.
8. I use 40-100s on a neck with almost no relief and a 1.2mm action at the 12th fret. No buzz anywhere but a lovely clank when I dig in. I play pretty lightly and like my slap to come out at the same volume so the sound is really consistent. Graphite neckage helps this setup obviously and I haven't touched it for years. I normally play in a studio but have to say I play with the same velocity live so I certainly won't be touching mine! You can her the sound of the action in the clips on my site in me sig if you like or the youtube vid. Cheers ped

Laney HCBM160B

Hi mate I had an HCM60B ages ago and it was excellent. Quite heavy by today's standards but a great sound through a single 12" speaker. For £65 I would say it is a bit of a bargain. The 60B sounded very loud for a 60w amp. ped
10. Haha. OK. You are driving on Sat then. Some people.
11. Excellent, I was just telling someone about this the other day. Can't wait. ped
12.
Here it is: mine since yesterday: Overwater Artisan or Fusion?
I think that bass was refinished by Marleaux in Germany - was it owned by Eubassix at one point? Stunning basses, these... keep em' coming. Any sound clips? ped
13. Looks like another fantastic day. I was at some horrible wedding but shouldn't have bothered, pretty much split up with the girlfriend on the day anyway so kicking myself. If I had known there would be lab puppies I would have been over come hell or high water. Huge thanks to everyone involved, spreading the message and good vibes of Basschat. I reckon 'bashes' however big or small are a big part of what makes us such a friendly and honest community. Honestly this bash sounds absolutely idyllic. I can't think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon. Lots of nice gear there too by the looks of it and it would have been great to have met you all. Cheers ped
14. I am sure it will do! I am just giving it a once over and I will record some stuff with it next week for fun. I just finished playing it now, it makes a good 'training bass' because it requires more effort to play. It sounds cool, too. Cheers ped

Tables

Hmm not sure... perhaps best to print screen and paste one in from Excel?
16. Don't be so sure!! Mwahahaha!! Lovely to meet you mate - seems we could have chatted all evening! Maybe I will sell the Epiphone and spend it on an AP Royal Oak Offshore from TZ!
17. Do they both have truss rods? A neck without one will sound different, but it is then more important that the neck profile and relief is to your taste. Can you try either of them?
18. Aye, at some point... No idea what price to ask so will research it. Probably not a great deal though!
19. Relatively cheap, too. I thought it would be twice that price.
20. I just picked this up from basschatter Tredders. He has kindly given me the bass as a donation to basschat - so it may be sold and the funds used for the site. At the moment I am cleaning it up and setting it up and it is good fun. It's a short scale and has a really nice neck. The sounds are quite weird and couldn't be more opposite from my every day bass, but playing it is great fun and it makes me appreciate my own bass all the more! The sound of the back pickup with the tone back is really nice, burpy and funky. A really nice change, anyway - and most importantly great fun! Here are some poor pics, haven't got my camera at the moment: After a quick clean and resoldering headstock Fresh out of the car boot, pre cleanup
21. The depth of that thing is mental!
22.
I've read on some PA forums that the 'powersoft lookalikes' have a higher rate of failure due to cheap components and sub standard forced air cooling. Ie.. the fans a woefully inadequate for the power of the amplifier. I guess the price would dictate that ultimately.
Aye probably. I need no bells and whistles as my Vbass feeds the poweramp so just needs to amplify the signal and being digital there is no need for a fan. Apparently it has been used a lot in its former life without any problems so fingers crossed!!
23. Who cares, just have fun and the rest will fall into place :0)
