I don't think it's just that - there is a fine line between a bit of clack and a choking feeling IME. I found it works on some basses more than others, but cannot nail the ideal 'recipe' any further than I already have - I think it is due to the sum of the parts and the physical setup of the instrument...

Do you own the most expensive bass on Basschat
I find this thread Crass beyond belief.... Whats next who has the biggest c**k ? Or should that be who is the biggest c**k ?
I don't know why you would think that, I find it quite interesting. As some people have said, their basses are relatively cheap, mine included, so nobody is saying really expensive basses are better or that it makes them better than anyone else. Here is that Alembic, I can't believe it would cost $10k but the online price generator is on their site somewhere... I think this bass was 1991 (can you remember Kiwi?) I am sure Kiwi's graphite Alembic would be worth FAR more though now, this Alembic was being bought/sold for about 1k here... Cheers ped -

Well the Alembic me and Kiwi owned for a bit ran up a price of $10,000 if ordered today, and that was without a couple of features like the 9 laminate neck, so maybe it would be even more... I am sure there are far more expensive ones out there though! Still, my best bass cost me only £500 and it slays them all! ped -
I still mean to update these samples and record a load more but getting to the studio (in Preston - I am in Oxford) is difficult at the moment, and has been for a while, because of timing issues! When I get back up there we will record a lot more samples and Linus27 I haven't forgotten!! Cheers ped

Well as far as I can see, if I had a bass I wanted to sell, something worth around £1500, and I was made redundant and had to think about a new house, paying for the old house, my car, applying for new jobs and all that other stuff, if a couple of people offered me £1500 for the bass frankly I would take those offers and keep them in hand whilst I was sorting out other far more important things before evaluating how much I could justify selling the bass for and then reassess things at that point. I mean, this goes on all the time because sales here aren't always set in stone. people post feelers, ask for offers blah blah all the time. Funny how tBBC picks up on just the one. I can't see what all the fuss is about, other than tBBC trying to undermine the people who own and run the site for the sake of it. I thought he was past that. As far as I can see this amounts to nothing but ridiculous bullying and it won't be tolerated, no matter how funny tBBC is/thinks he is. ped

Oh I will, I need a hard copy to make up my Vigier 'stuff' collection ;0)

Yeah I am excited, never been before. I am going on the Terrier day because I have an unhealthy fascination with Staffordshire Bull Terriers, so can't wait to meet them all! I will take lots of pics! P.s is it bad form to scan in the vigier review and email to someone?

Hi Platypus (brilliant creatures btw) That is very kind of you indeed. I am going to Crufts tomorrow and will probably need a magazine for the train so I will have a look at the station to see if they have a copy, if not (they probably wont) I will PM you tomorrow with my details for sendage. Cheers ped

I don't normally buy the mag (all the info I need is here!) but would be interested to see the Vigier review but can't really get into town today with my heavy workload. Hmm. If there was some way of looking at it perhaps electronically... ped

Hey guys, just a note to say how grateful I am for everyone involved in setting up this event and to all those who attended. You make Basschat proud! Hopefully we can have a national bash soon. Cheers ped

Hi guys, just been looking through the pics of the bash, gotta say you all have done Basschat proud! Both look like great fun and I am really glad more members managed to meet up and put names and faces to usernames, it really helps the forum stay so friendly and fun. Cheers ped

LOL sorry mate. It's absurd really and a few weeks ago I would have laughed at the idea of anyone using an ipod/phone as a serious piece of music equipment but programmes like this really do make it a worthy device. That and the shotgun application, which is fun.

Hi guys, I am enjoying playing along with some drum loops I have downloaded from here and other sites which I then put on my iphone and through my mixer which is fed to my IEMs. I was looking just now at apps for the phone and there is a fully featured drum sequencer for £11 which looks fantastic. It is called BEATMAKER. Has anyone tried it? Is there a good selection of built in beats to practice to? Can anyone reccomend another programme? I would mainly like a massive selection of built in rhythms preferably in a 'real' kit sound rather than synthy drums, and the ability to make/save my own patterns is a bonus... Cheers ped

Digital poweramp recomendations wanted please.
ped replied to 6stringbassist's topic in Amps and Cabs
I just piced up a 'noname' one form ebay for £90, 400w stereo and 1u, great piece of kit. If I was buying new I would go for the BK electronics MF1200D (I think) -
I'd make a shout for Betty Davis, her first couple of albums are superb. Larry Graham on bass duties and theres a lot of solid, repeated, simple(ish) bass grooves going on there. A lot of the time with Sly/Graham Central Station I feel he's a bit uber but he cuts it back with Betty. Also, its some of the filthiest music around. Delicious!
How random, I just came here to mention Betty! It came up in my Last.fm station recently and instantly bought @they Say I'm Different' and 'Betty Davis' because both are just bloody great!! ped
What about this one then?
After playing that I would be surprised if my 'Manlihood' was still intact!

I love ramps too! The pickups on my basses (fretted and fretless both the same type) act as a ramp as they are over the playing area and very smooth. The fretted in particular works well as the 'ramp' is slightly radiused which I prefer I think... They help a lot I think, but I only notice when I play another bass. I play really lightly so the ramp is a nice reference point and makes the playing area feel really nice! You can see the shine that has appeared on the pickups over time! Cheers ped
With custom basses, the relationship between customer and luthier is important in getting things right. have a chat to Jon and Martin and see who's more on your level.
+1 good call Thomas my boy

I am going to have to give it another listen!
