Hmm that looks quite advanced to me... I really have no idea about theory and not really a jazzer either (though I am sure the book would be helpful nonetheless) Ideally looking for something linking specifically to the bass guitar and written for 5 year olds Cheers ped

P.s I am not looking for books that teach licks or different styles.

Yo, I want to start reading music/learning about scales and so forth as at the moment I haven't looked at that sort of thing for a long time. I haven't really felt the need and just enjoyed playing and grooving but thought I would find a good book that I could really get stuck into and learn the theory - perhaps even teach some lessons at my school. My friend has Bass Guitar for Dummies, is that good? What else is there? I am not after technique books or anything like that (bass guitar for dummies seems to spend a fair chunk on this) but assume I know nothing about the theory, what should I read? Cheers ped

A poll wouldn't give a balanced outcome because only those interested in a topic entitled 'Beginner forum' will cast a vote. I will wait to see what AM1 sends me and have a think. A reference section with resources/links and so forth is a good plan.
I'm a room to room guy and to be honest i dont really see it as being a "noob" section as such, more of a resource for learning about playing, gear, gigging etc.I may be wrong here but it seems the more experienced among us are the one's that think it's unnecessary.Personally i doubt very much that it would divide the forum at all but then that's just me. edit, +1 on the current format but not having something like this before is'nt really a reason not to have one in the future. Why not trial it for a while and if it doesnt work out close it.At the end of the day it's easy to set up and i'm sure that there'll be plenty of folks who'd be happy to moderate it.
Hi mate, Sorry, I didn't mean 'noob' but meant that on other forums the beginner's area is usually used by people referred to as 'noobs' which is the kind of environment I want to avoid having on BC. I think a reference section would be a good idea but not sure about a separate forum. AM1 if you could PM me a list of the resources etc you wish to post, I will lok through them and decide, based on their quantity/quality/accessibility/format etc what is the best way of presenting them on the site. I agree the WIKI isn't much use because lots of people don't notice it or know how to use it (I included to a large extent) but a beginners section full of these resources sounds like a better idea. Other people have summed up my own views far more eloquently than I could in so far as the section would be a useful resource with beginner content but I don't think beginners should be worried about posting basic questions in any of the current sections. I will discuss it with Kiwi when we next touch bases but personally I would vote no, too. Cheers ped

Interesting stuff. I am still not sure myself. I think a beginners section 'library' sounds like a better idea, depending on the quantity/quality of these resources you mention. I don't really like the idea of a separate area for 'noobs' like other forums I visit. I don't like the way it divides people up. We have never had one before and never had any problems with the current format. Too many forums gets a bit much and our discussions are free ranging and cross curricular... With the volume of posts every day I think a lot of people use the 'view new posts' feature rather than going from 'room to room' as it were so these beginner forum posts would still appear for everyone anyway which kind of defeats the point IMO. Very nice and clear sounding... I think I could hear everything in perfect detail! BTW 7string - that high fidelity + low F# = new headphones for ped!!! Cheers ped

Wish I had seen this sooner, I would have had an excuse to get out of watching 'The Reader' at the cinema tonight.... Have a good one and let's hook up soon, maybe a mini Oxford bash! ped

Still waiting mate!! The guitarist has been working on a theme tune for a children's series of books! I plan on going up there ASAP to kick him into gear!! Sorry!! ped

Yea some of those old Peaveys are cool. There was a keyboard amplifier at the practice studio which sounded great with bass. Must have cost about a tenner, too!

Gotta be the Roland Vbass!

We need lots more loops from people to make the section really grow! Come on folks! Anything will do! ped

I think a list of stickies would be more appropriate, some essential reading for beginners perhaps. I don't think the environment here is the least bit hostile towards beginners - quite the opposite. I will see what the others think about it! ped

We are all beginners at something, so there are no 'stupid' questions. Just ask away and dive in. If someone tries to make you feel stupid, feel sorry for them. ped

I am with Musky on this one. We don't want to draw lines between abilities on the forum as much as we don't want to divide the forum with some being 'supporting members' and so forth. I don't think there is any question you couldn't ask about beginner things that wouldn't be answered to the fullest in any current forum. The ones that do grumble are just seeking attention :0) Cheers ped

Sometimes I wonder!!

Looks good enough to eat... I hope I get to play it soon! You must be really happy. Is this... dare I say it... THE ONE? ped

What's the most over-rated bass, or bass related product???
ped replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
Just because the bass might have graphite doesn't mean the sound wouldn't be unique or the bass won't have any character. The wood makes an even bigger difference when paired with a graphite neck in my experience. Active Eq's are good I think - always have mine bypassed but why not have the extra control if you need. -
Looks a lot like the Aria that famous geezer plays. Looks nice, I think.
