1. Weather the bass is active or not shouldn't make much difference as the input level wants to be consistent with the VU meter on the amp anyway so you just need to turn the input gain up more than an active bass - that said many passive basses are louder than actives. Hmm indeed. I did read somewhere that the VU meter isn't actually that accurate and you might get away with cranking the gain a bit more. To be honest if you take it back you might be able to get a 4x10 cab and head second hand for your budget which would move more air... Cheers!
2. Hm that's strange. Round my place it sounded very muscular and loud. Having said that my bass did sound a lot louder than yours, but if your input level is near the red then it shouldn't matter... I gigged for a ling time with a Hartke 210 cab and 350w head (pushed 280w or something into the 210) and it was never too quiet. I think the band need to tun down :0) P.s hopefully coming to the gig tonight because the snow has threatened my travel plans. We will see. It might sound a lot louder from a few feet away in the audience. Cheers
3. Spot on Simon. I haven't gone custom myself and don't think I ever will (only because I have found a bass I am very happy with) but that all makes perfect sense. Makes me wonder why everyone doesn't do it! Cheers ped
4. I am with you Ben, well put. As regards to location, if the seller doesn't want to reply or neglects to let the buyer know then they won't get a sale, simple as that! Like on eBay, a crap listing is rarely successful. ped
5. four threads not enough??
6. Best wishes from me too matey
7. Sounds awesome Shaggy. Nice work. Cheers ped
8. Wouldn't mind chekkin' it too please!
9. P.s I hope nobody minds me taking this thread off at a tangent - apologies!!
10. Well I just powered it up and I am delighted to say I still have my eyebrows and my hands intact. The poweramp is completely silent and says the power source is 'high quality' which endears me to it even more. The school I was in today had a couple of decent looking wedge monitors lying about that I was really tempted to nick but ah well I will wait until I get mine I suppose!! Cheers Chuffed ped
11. Looks good. I am a fan of simple 'all in one' solutions so will be interesting to check these out. Feel free to send me a prototype for a review when you have one available! ped
12. Excellent, cheers Alex. It seems like it will be safe to power up at home even though I don't have any speakers yet... who dares me? Anyone willing to stake £90 and their reputation on it?? lol ped
13. I will give it a try at Kiwi's on Sunday. I might as well try it in stereo first though... I will be using it this way 99% of the time anyway so just wondered if there was an easy answer to my quandary - it seems like there sort of is... And Chrisb is right, you can pick up some bargains, especially if your poweramp is just a no name jobbie which internally is probably the same as a branded one but without the sensationalist hype I see a lot nowadays! I am on the lookout for cabs now but I anticipate having an 800w stereo rig which weighs next to nothing for under £300. ped
14. Hi mate, The chaps on Talkbass seem to think the same. I guess the only way to know is to try it.... Here is the TB thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=511590 So it should DEFINITELY be OK then eh? I'm scared :-0
15. Oh quick Q... I have asked the seller (who seems a cool chap) but thought I might ask here too.. When I want to use this in stereo I hook up a speaker to each output of the amp, but for mono is it OK to just plug in one speaker and nothing into the other, or do both have to be plugged into something before I power up? Cheers ped
16.
Hmm, interesting. Any idea on the depth of that thing? All the 1U class-D amps I've come across (albeit in a fairly limited search) are stupidly deep, and hence won't fit in to a standard rack case...
Got the poweramp today. It is a classy little unit - very light and shallow in depth and height... here are some pics. The depth measures 25.5m I am taking it round to kiwi's on Sunday for a play... Cheers ped
17. Cool, how is it? I have always been keen on them myself... ped
18. Yeah I prefer the BFD logo. The whole word looks a bit much I think. ped
19. I have almost finished the Official Basschat Shop now so you can order our sw***y (s w a n k y!) merch through an automated and rather professional (looking) system! Cheers ped
20. OK I have set up a webstore now and will be able to reveal it soon for you all to see. Cheers ped
21.
Have a Harem! I have. Wife #14 is due to move in soon! My collection just gently expands. I doubt I'll sell any on, and the rate at which I'm buying is slowing, but my bunch are all wildly different, yet all excellent in their own way!
See I just can't do that!! Even when I have two fretted basses, one gets played more and the other doesn't get as much use, however much I kid myself that I need it. I think the idea of having 'my' bass is more exciting than having lots of basses that get used a bit. I always WANTED a massive collection when I started playing but ultimately realised that my own unique sound was what I wanted to stick with. No disrespect for the huge collection though man, you have some beauties and I definitely see where you are coming from! ped
22. Hey Toasted I just noticed your user title - Moderator Emeritus - what's that about?! ped
23. It doesn't really bother me that he plays this on a bass... not what I do with my bass but this is a nice performance nonetheless.... ped

Ken smith ??
I emailed Ken Smith directly asking for him to endorse me. Had some quite comical emails from him! He's a grumpy f***er!
That was a classic conversation. Quite impressed he replied, unlike the others! ped
