The only downside of the MRS4 is there isn't an easy way to connect to the computer like the little Line6' USB (which looks cool!)

I used to have a Zoom MRS-4 (think I still do somewhere) and it was superb. Fantastic quality, easy to use, batteries last ages, weighed nothing and with a 32MB smartmedia card had tons of storage. Some of the songs on my website were recorded with it. I played the bass to a click, posted the zoom to my brother and he did drums, he posted it to the guitar player and he posted it back. Great fun to record in this way, the song I got back was a complete suprise and awesome!! Cheers ped

Sweet. Nice review and great looking bass. I am not normally a fan of single cuts but these look like something else, and play like a dream - every one I have tried of Mark's stock has been nothing short of superb, capable of an extremely low action and a bucketload of great zingy sounds. What's that little black 'extension' on the back of the bridge - something to do with the 33" scale? Cheers ped

Hmm. Interesting stuff. I recently bought a spare set of new 'E2C' headphones by Shure (which I SWEAR by) only to find they have been replaced with SLC2's which sound completely different. It really sucks because the E2Cs give me the exact sound that I hear when I am recorded so I can really rely on them. The SLC2s have a really high treble hiss and sound much thinner and, well, worse! I better take real care of my current set of E2cs..... Bummer ped
That absolutely sums it all up to be fair! I think i can find peace with that! There is some part of me every time i listen to Meshell Ndegeocello that really wants to pick up a fender jazz that just works, my Marcus Miller and the Reissue i had really let me down! But like yourself i record with this bass, play this bass live, everyone who hears it can't say enough about it...... Out of interest what bass is it?
I know what you mean - whilst it is great to have a bass that has your own sound, it is nice to have access to the all time great bass sounds used by your fave players, too. I overcame the necessity to have a P/J/Ray hanging around by getting a Vbass system put in my bass... I never found a P/J/Ray that felt as good or played half as well as my bass but now I don't have to. the weird thing is that it STILL sounds too good to be true, but it works for me. What you say about certain players sounding great with their basses is partly because many of them have been playing that particular bass for a long time and know how to get whatever they like from it. To a certain extent when you have had the same bass for many years it starts to feel like another limb and you can concentrate on playing and making grooves that other people might want to copy and cop your sound one day... 'My' bass can be seen in the link in my sig - I think you must be one of a few that haven't heard me banging on about it before ;0) Another thing to note is that the more used to your own bas you get, the tone becomes more 'usual' to you and other sounds grab your attention more (hence 'honeymoon' periods). This is why it is important to have two basses, play one and leave the other until you have 'tuned out', then go back it to. You will be surprised what you hear with a fresh ear... Cheers ped

I know exactly what you are saying. I found my 'Wife (!)' bass a while ago (didn't know it then) and had always owned at least two fretted basses at the time. The beauty of this is that you can spend some time with both and sell the least fave for another top end bass (careful baying/selling will not lose you any cash) and over time it became clear that my 'Wife' bass was beating the competition hands down. All the while I had been playing it live, recording with it, making bumps and scratches on it and generally living with it and loving it. Somewhere along the line (about 6 or 7 basses into my 'comparison') I became bored of selling/buying and the hassle of it. I sold the competition and settled down with my wife (and her fretless sister ) and couldn't be happier. I am totally comfortable with the bass in any situation due to the time I have had it and have managed to compare it against every other bas I have fancied. That, mixed with the rarity and uniqueness of my instrument, meant that it became 'me' and 'my sound'. So - if the '88 is comfortable, works for you and feels like the one, keep it and start comparing it to other basses when you have the money/time. You might find something else, you might realise that it is 'you' - there is no way of telling until you have a try. That way, a few years down the line, you can sit back with your '88 happy in the knowledge that it is part of you and your sound, in the same way you wouldn't want someone else's eyes or summink' Cheers ped

Looks cool to me. Nobody HAS to buy them, and he makes them mainly for a laugh... good luck to him!

Try Bass Direct - they have their own forum here on Basschat in the 'Affiliates' section. Cheers ped

Afraid I don't know the depth or anything yet, I am actually hoping it is fairly deep so that the footprint of my vbass pre sits on it securely. It looks quite deep in the pics... I will post a full report when it arrives. I have been speaking to Mark at Bass Direct about a couple of second hand 1x12 with horn bass/pa cabs which I may hook up to it. I will have to get myself there and out some cabs through their paces. As I am using IEMs anyway pretty much all the time the rig is just for a bit of fun and teaching, I may use it live for a bit of rumble where the monitors at the venue aren't up to scratch, but I think I will have a superb sounding full stereo rig for under £300... The only reason I definitely want stereo is because most of the synths I use need stereo to be fully unleashed... Cheers ped

Really? You are being serious? Are you drunk?! Kind of a sweeping statement I think you will agree. You are entitled to your opinion, of course. But wrong ;0) If your XT sounds like a broken 60's Hiwatt then may I suggest you aren't using it properly! Cheers ped {EDIT - Apologies Wimpy for the off topic discussion, good luck with the sale, I shouldn't think you will have much trouble, lovely bit of kit}
That is quite simply gorgeous, David! Is it one of the new wooden necked ones with a phelonic board? Also, is this instead of the S2-Classic you were talking about? Rich.
[Anorak] The series 4 basses feature the 10/90 system used on the series 3 basses - two usually dense carbon segments go through the neck (unusually dense as there is not much resin) giving them the same rigidity of the full carbon series 2 basses, apparently. The series 4 basses differ from the series 3 in that they are no longer neck through but a really neat bolt on design instead[/Anorak] Cheers ped

Here we go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...amp;mfe=sidebar Looks OK - it won't be used a great deal so unless it takes my face off I will be happy! Cheers ped

Yeah I think it is a cool design, just not THAT comfortable for playing seated. Lots of innovative features on the guitar which is good to see. I seem to remember the bass being made of lots and lots of laminates with sound chambers in. Interested to hear how they sound, too. Cheers ped

I have played the guitar version, superbly made, wafer thin and flawlessly set up. Never played a bass though, and the upper horn does stick into yer' chest a bit... Cheers ped

I like your description/listing Rich! Good stuff. ped
