1.
The Bass Cellar ad....MISSPELLED AGAIN.....Aaargh!
Did they call it the Ass Cellar?
2. I had a pretty clear sound in my head that I wanted to achieve - after having a few basses and getting to know the characteristics of different features the type of bass I wanted became clear and luckily everything fell into place. If you buy wisely you won't lose any money on your bass journey through trades and selected bargains. Most of my collection comes from an original outlay of about £750 for a 57RI Pbass and a Pedulla MVP. Cheers ped
3. Yeah it was great fun hearing the ACG and the Retro pre-amps at the SE bash. Didn't someone video it? ped

The Vbass contains a boggling amount of things. Whilst it can be an fx unit with every type of effect under the sun, you can also model amplifiers and cabinets, and then there is the really interesting part. The pickup interprets the string movement and takes on board everything from scale length to string height to put virtual pickups on the bass so you can play 'other' basses, synths and other things like organs with one bass. I thought it sounded too good to be true but boy was I wrong. Months and months later and after a lot of tweaking and playing, I am confident that the sound is incredibly accurate and the jazz bass for example is the best I have ever personally had, and I get the feel and playability of my #1 bass!! I know I probably go on about it all the time and bore other people, but it really has opened a whole new world for me! And at the end of the day, the 'clean' bass, or the sound of my ACTUAL bass pickups, sounds better than I have heard so far (I was a pod XT user for a while, tried various other preamps but tended to go direct to desk before that) I haven't really researched the GR20, not sure what it offers that the vbass does not, but I know a few Vbassers with them, so there must be something. Richard Bona has both and uses them a lot.. Cheers ped
5. Kev, don't worry about student debts. You can't avoid them. Keep the bass otherwise that £900 will disappear really quickly and you will end up still in debt but without a bass. If you truly think it is the best bass you have played, save yourself money in the long run and keep hold of it... ped
6. We are international crime fighters but not miracle workers!! Well done to everyone involved, I have about caught up with the story now (it overtook me very quickly) and welcome to our friends from Warwick. Cheers ped
7.
here's a vverrry interesting Gibson related article and its quality control practices: http://www.dinosaurrockguitar.com/new/node/240
Thanks for the link. It certainly backs up my own experience with Les Pauls- I don't play guitar but my friend tried lots of guitars before finding one that was right, and we were both surprised at the outcome. Price doesn't mean anything when it boils down to the magic of the woods working together and other hidden factors which cannot be easily 'upgraded' later as so desired, like hardware. Cheers ped

Mine is the old one, the original unit. I haven't seen the new one yet but think they are out now-ish. As for setup, you have to install the pickup according to the instructions and then on the pedal itself you type in the exact distance between the edge of the pickup and the string saddle of each string etc etc so the pedal can interpret the string movement accurately. Amazing piece of kit!!

Hi mate, Never tried a GR20 but Elros had one. You can blend the clean bass with anything on the Vbass, so presume you can on the Gr20 as well. Wouldn't mind trying one... Cheers ped
10. Cool stuff, sounds like a good 'relationship'. I wonder how many basschatters are endorsed? Cheers pedro
11. Looks like I am single now too! Still, bass is better, isn't it? (Humour me)
12. That seems to be the case yeah. The lock bites into the groove in the strap button. I think the likelihood of it failing is slim but time will tell, or hopefully not as the case may be.. Cheers ped
13. Awesome lads, cheers for the vids, too. I really like the sound of the PJB. Top basschatting all round, and good to put a few faces to names. Christ on a bike BigAlOnBass is a huge chap!! Cheers ped
14.
The 'Best' basses are made by Jim Fleeting in Ripon, thats not subjective opinion, its pure fact..the others are just amateurs trying.
+1, obviously.
15. Rob, have you noticed your user title has been changed? :0)
16.
Ped, do these little fellas fit on the Schaller do-dahs you screw onto the bass itself? Cheers, John.
Hi John, You need to replace the Schaller 'lugs' with the ones supplied with the locks. They are very similar and take the same sized screws etc so not a problem to switch over at all (unless one of your strap buttons points at the neck, like mine!) Still very impressed with them, certainly a step up from the schallers. Cheers pedro
17. Argh - since I have had my account deleted at my request, how about no! Why can't you answer my questions here? PM me if you prefer! Why would you ask me to discuss it there? ped
18. 'You basically called me a liar' No more than you called me one! You asked me to prove it by naming people! Come on ARGH! I am inclined to agree with jakesbass' point earlier - 'Aargh I know it may look like it doesn't work for you, maybe you have an attitude that makes you a less desirable proposition than musicians that do make money..' Other than that, again, as I said, you make some good points. All wrapped up in a very angry kind of attitude! ped
19.
We have, via msn..you were rude, ignorant, and creepy....and after reading what you have, and others have said about 'us' the greater mass,on Basschat, said in 'other' places,I dont care. You basically called me a liar, your opinon is as valid as mine....except my point is Ive never met a Pure player..at the very least not a happy one, seeing as theres a few teacher/players on here,I can keep to that side.....Jake is incredibly lucky,I couldnt make enough cash to live in Surrey,I can or rather could in Yorkshire..and have done..Im now playing originals because I need to blow out the stress of my life, see if I can have one last shot at the title (ARGHspeak for record deal) if it dont work,Back to the covers/functions. I dont think a kid at 21, fresh out of Uni can leave and be a pure player, unless they either cruiseship it,do the corporate when/wherever,and do it purely by playing alone...except in a hit band or in the Cities Ive cited (inc M25)....there are exceptions, there always are...but Ive not met one,nor met anyone that would take them on,a few kids I know are suffering coz of that, theres less and less to go round here, pubs venues etc,and everyones holding on tight,at least round here....ask Adreno. I dont know anyone that is rich from it,and I compound that with the fact that one lecturer from Brighton,(Damien) stated that there was not enough work available and its getting smaller, and another from Bradford said the same with extra. Now I have to sleep.....
Well apart from not answering my questions I found that pretty harsh. 'rude, ignorant, and creepy'? How so? What does 'after reading what you have, and others have said about 'us' the greater mass,on Basschat, said in 'other' places,I dont care' mean? ped
20.
Ped, I was getting the impression you're writing "library" music for radio/tv, etc. Is this correct? If so, keep at it. A friend of mine has been writing it for some years now & has a contract with Chappel music & Sony BMG. He's getting about £20k every quarter in royalties now! Rich.
Yo Rich, Sort of - my staple band is a studio group and we record music for fun, we all prefer it to gigging actually. It is normally instrumental fusion groove stuff. With my dad being a cameraman for various production companies and now I work with the BBC myself, our music has been requested from a few places such as Sky Sports, just out of the blue. It's great because they like what we do and we don't have to take any orders. As I said we do it for fun so any financial gain is a bonus really. Hook me up with your friend please!!! Cheers ped
21.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=V1tXhJniSEc You make a Judgement about me,without,meeting me,talking to me,or seeing how I play......Thanks.
Careful ARGH - you did the same to me a few posts ago!! To address a couple of points: - No idea why you are dragging the prices of basses into this, and my bass was £500, if that matters? - I wasn't name dropping, quite the opposite. I simply said I knew some people who are pro who love it, to counter your rather one sided opinion. - How can you say I know 'sh*t all' about this subject when we have never met or spoken to each other? Otherwise, you make one or two good points. ped
22.
Bullshit, you cant substantiate your point so you call me a liar..f*** you...
..Ok then Name a time and place... Just to clarify, who is the big spoon? Judging by your course language and tone I am expecting a sore weekend!
23. They certainly are not 'Name' players but people who make a living from playing. Nobody you will recognise. Why, don't you believe me? I am not saying you are wrong - maybe all the ones you have met WERE lying. Hence my remark. Don't tarnish everyone with the same brush though eh? ped
24. 'In 17 years of playing Ive never met one happy pro EVER' ..That struck me as rather odd, that's all. I have met several! ped
25. Oh and I have NEVER played 'Mustang Sally' - to be honest I don't even know it!
