1.
I've got a Brooklyn Gear and a Comfort Strapp and like them both. I use Boston straplocks, similar to Schallers, much cheaper and they have two slim nuts so the nuts can be locked and don't work loose like Schallers. Quality seems to be at least on a par and interchangeable too. I did have an Overwater strap but they work in a completely different way to the Comfort/Brooklyn straps with the stretchy bit is a single piece of elastic attached to an otherwise non stretchy pad. My bass neck was doing nodding donkey impressions. I do wonder if they may have been modified? Peter
A much better idea, those Boston locks. I have lost count of the times the Schallers have come loose. Just went to buy some Bostons and came across these - has anyone tried them? They look quite nice... 2. Still using the Brooklyn Gear neoprene strap but recently got a Comfort Strapp to compare. I am not sure I like it as much - when seated the seatbelt material irritates the underneath or my right arm which I haven't noticed on the other... Cheers ped
3. I think mainly because they are the ones that SELL. There are many many extravagant and innovative ideas out there, but without big markets, they will never become as visible in the market as your usual run of the mill stuff. I do however also think that the bass guitar has probably changed more than any other instrument since its inception, especially when compared to instruments like the violin and so forth... 4. Yeah I tried WD40 but had better results with window cleaner for some reason!
5. YEOOOOOOOOOOOO!
6. Am I the only one who finds 'stealth' basses a bit TOO black?? I think this looks very nice as it is! ped
7. Excellent, Phenolic is a great fingerboard material IMO! Cheers ped

Bass clips

Very well, much better than any other sort of synth because of course each string is processed separately. There is one patch which works especially well, the E and A strings have a kind of slapback echo effect and the top strings are two octaves higher and sound like a trumpet... you can create some amazing grooves with it! That is another thing that excites me about the VB99 because you could set a synth up to give way to a clean bass slap which would be pretty cool. Another fave patch is a really fat synth that has a clean bass on the G string for a pop now and then. Cheers ped

NEW Roland Vbass

Ah excellent! From what I have read so far it sounds like a similar unit packaged differently and with some extra features like string modelling and the ability to morph patches based on the dynamics of your playing (a synth that turns to clean bass when you dig in? awesome....) so it looks like a lot of fun. There are a few clips here, but these were a while ago and before I discovered the joys of stereo outputtage! NEW Roland Vbass
Hi Ped, I hope you don't mind me asking a couple of questions but you seem to be the resident BC V Bass expert! 1) How usable are the models in a band context? I've been down the Variax bass route in the past and whilst some of the models sounded great in isolation, they always seemed a bit thin in a band situation. 2) Do you think I would be able to fit the divided pickup on a Lakland DJ4 given the way the bridge plate extends towards the bridge pickup? As in this pic: Cheers, Ray
Hi Ray, Please ask away! The pickup will definitely fit your bass. There only needs to be about 1cm gap for the pickup itself and you want it as close to the bridge as possible so it will be fine. Mine luckily fit perfectly as my pickups are right up against the bridge leaving me zero room either side - it was touch and go but the gamble paid off!! As for the band context, I know where you are coming from. My gear preferences are based purely on band contexts (although more often I am doing studio playing than live stuff) and have found the Vbass to excel in this area. Everything is pretty much infinitely adjustable but I found the sounds superb with little tweaking. Any more questions let me know - I have some samples dotted around somewhere you can check out that might give you some idea of the unit in a band context... Cheers ped

NEW Roland Vbass

You would think with all the Richard Bona reports lately that the Vbass would be top of everyone's xmas list! Here is a nice thread on Talkbass with some extra links and so on. The manual for the unit is now available for download. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=481588 Cheers ped
13. Window cleaner for me! Seriously! My fingerboard is phenolic though... ped
14. Who on earth is ped?
15. Where are you based?
16. Hmm if it was left with the natural wood finish it would look great in my house! ...and it would sound amazing, too! ped
17. Unfortunately I am one of them. This cab looks superb, and I bet it sounds just right. Good luck :0) ped
18. I used a playing card and found that the thickness of the card alone was enough to cure a wonky fretboard on an OLP ray I used to have. It was fine from then on. IIRC didn't Fenders sometimes have shims under the neck pockets from new? Cheers ped
19. Hi mate, Nice to meet you on Sunday and thanks for the ideas. I am going to discuss them with kiwi as I am sure they can be implemented easily. All the ideas so far have been great. I am not sure we need to do anything especially new other than keeping the forum running and maintained. Cheers ped
20. Needless to say I am extremely grateful to everyone who organised and attended the event. Congratulations to Mike257! Cheers ped
21. Just got in - superb day, very busy but great to meet so many people and spend some time with matt... I was blown away by Ylonda(SP?) Charles - just freakin' superb. Incredible. Off to bed I think, look forward to hearing from everyone else how the later acts went down. Shame I had to miss Bona but me and Urb had a god laugh with TM Stevens. What a ledge. Cheers ped
22. We did this on a previous version of the site and had many more basses than Basstasters (albeit in a less well presented package) I still have all the clips but nowhere to host them all. I will poke around and see how we can sort this out and then request more clips to add to the list... Cheers ped

Bass clips

Cheers mate! The synths are really fun as there are no tracking problems and they are polyphonic. You might say I am a synth player now rather than just a bassist!! ped
24. Hmm, never had the 'Live' version so unfamiliar with the pedal options/control, sorry.... ped
25. Cool stuff Tayste, I hope they are paying you! Keep them coming!
