Just been announced. Meant to be an exact replica of the original Mutron. Set to be around £100 but no word about release date yet which may be some time. I think there are some other clones in the pipeline possibly ahead of this but I know some suggested that Behringer should do this to follow up on their Mutron Octave Divider they released last year. https://synthanatomy.com/2023/03/behringer-b-tron-iii-a-clone-of-the-vintage-mu-tron-iii-envelope-filter.html

It’s super fun. It has haptics and you can really feel the bass through the device. Easy to use and craft tunes with. My son had it in the car and was playing some soft sounding synths which fade into vibrato and he started saying how it sounded like a sad song and started making up a story to go with the music. Whilst the music he created left a lot to be desired, it was great listening to him engaging with the sounds.

Yeah it looks kind of easy doesn’t it. And the quantisation should help. Tbh I was expecting it to be way more expensive.

Same 😂 I’ll let you know. It can be used with Bluetooth MIDI to control GarageBand instruments too which is cool. And if I get annoyed with it it should be a nice shape and weight to chuck out of the window

Has anyone tried one of these? It looks really fun and I’m wondering if it might encourage my son and his cousins to start their journey into synthesis. Not a bad price either. Sure it’s not as comprehensive for advanced users but it looks like a nice way to start crafting some loops… https://artiphon.com/pages/orba

Kind of brings you crashing back down to earth doesn’t it 😂

Trying to stay on the beat whilst Fred is asking about compression and telling me off for being late to the session. Is this what all LA session guys have to put up with?

It depends on how it’s recorded and what I’m listening through but that’s how your sound translates to me at this end, so it might not be the thing you need to do at yours if you see what I mean. Mind you I listened through my headphone system which I know sounds very faithful to recordings I’ve made and listened back to on different systems.

For me the central tone is pretty good, it’s unmistakably a 70s spacing jazz. I think the treble is a bit too much in the 6k range and needs a bit more sizzle further up. I’d move some of the mid frequencies a little lower and boost the low end and run into a limiter to give it that brick wall growl.

Great playing!

This is also a good source of info. I bought a couple of pickups from them and they're amazing https://www.geminipickups.co.uk/how-pickups-work

I think so, I mean everything was a bit of a blur but I think John Hall was there too, reading out the emails he sent me -

Going back to the original vid, the interviewer seems to be absolutely spellbound by this guy’s aimless slides and ill advised plonking. I actually wonder if he’s being sarcastic - watch it again with that in mind and it’s even funnier -

Sell tickets in advance and if you don’t hit the target, refund everyone?

Sheffield is probably a good shout actually, fairly central for a lot of our members

I think sometimes it’s down to luck, just how the string happens to contact the bridge etc. I use Elixirs and they sometimes crackle for the first few hours a tiny bit but then it goes. I think the coating is so than that once they’ve settled in they develop a better earth with the bridge. I’ve just strung my Squier Mustang with them and it was crackly for a little bit too.
-
Yeah it’s the coating. It’ll go away after a little bit 👍🏼

It’s more about the software than the rules per se - if there was an area where swaps were allowed with no inputting of a price then it would need policing to make sure people don’t use it to trade basses etc which understandably requires a sub. So we’d need to put an upper limit on the value or something, which would put us back where we are now but with the value being declared so it’s free to post items under £50. I understand the issue of posting a value if you only want to swap but there’s not really a way around it - think of it as saying ‘I have £300 worth of bass pickups to swap’ and maybe out ‘for trade’ in the thread title?

Harley Benton MV-4M Mustang-like bass. £198. Opinions?

Sometimes it’s little adjustments and fettling which makes a bass feel ‘yours’ and in a weird way, even more satisfying than one that’s perfect out of the box (or does the HB come in a carrier bag!) -
I’ve had this pedal for ages, bought from a member here but can’t remember who. It was sold as an fx25 clone with LPF mode and synth. I was deep into my Fx25s at the time and didn’t really give this a proper go and it broke shortly after. Well today I decided to fix it (just a broken connection) and got it working again. I’m pretty certain it’s actually a Prunes and Custard clone/type pedal (which is good because that’s a fav me of mine). The synth mode gives that same wet spattery fuzz but this one doesn’t blend in any clean. The envelope modes (fast and slow) sound amazing, especially on fast where the thing farts when you dig in, like an fx25 does, but with no low end loss or big bass whump as the filter closes. Weirdly the ‘level’ knob doesn’t do anything except at the very start of its sweep where it turns off the signal so I’ve renamed it a DFA knob. The other two are really responsive. So kind of a free pedal. Reckon it might be my fave filter for the Mustang at least… and that’s saying something!!
