1. The site wouldn't load for me a minute ago but I did not see the IPS error screen, just a blank screen as it tried to load. It looks like the problem might still be there. I will look into it further.

Cheers - any more reports please let me know!

  2. Nice videos, cheers. I hope we see more clips of everyone playing.

Bass sound is very nice, and it looks like you have the floating thumb style down really well - have you always used this technique or is it something you have been developing? As I have never used it I find it really difficult!

  3.
It was a version of the Thumb designed by bassist John Davis which had a shallower body and neck than standard, making it a bit lighter and much easier to play than the standard Thumb. Unfortunately the email I had from Warwick about it has gone in a hard disc crash - I have a vague feeling that the JD was the first Thumb, being a cut-down Streamer, but this may be bollocks. Ah, it might not be bollocks after all.
Cheers, I didn't know that. Big fan of Thumb basses.

  4.
Twice so far. Twenty years ago, after playing it and falling straight in love with it, I traded in the Precision and B2 that I had at the time for the JD Thumb. I've never found another fretted 4-string as playable.

I bought another Thumb and had it defretted and the neck reprofiled to be the same as the JD. I don't count that as finding it because it was quite a change from the original, and when I had flatwounds on it I couldn't quite gel with it, but since fitting roundwounds it's been great.

The second "the ONE" was when I bought the 5-string fretted Antoniotsai. I've been trying to find a 5-string that I really got on with for a long time, probably about 15 years, but the trouble is that they've not come up to the playability of the Thumb, until I got this one. Rather lucky really given that it came from Viet Nam.
Forgive my ignorance but what is a 'JD' Thumb?

  5.
i had the bass overdrive,

Gain, bass, treble, clean/dry mix and level, did exactly what it said on the tin!
Technically not a tin though you bearded waster

  6. Thanks guys! Glad you like it. I am doing a new version of the video soon, this time it will be filmed in DVcam quality with a proper background and my rig will be in shot (though the audio path will probably be the same - XT pro into desk and synced with camera).

  7.
Fortunately, very nearly. And on my third effort (and my first 5 string)
A decade later, I've finally found some strings that really make it sing and allow a stupidly low action.

The instrument in question is a 1996 Vigier Passion 5 (Standard, Series III), now strung with my favoured DR FatBeams (45-125)

In fairness, I do have 12 other instruments to keep it company, and I'd not part with many of those, either.
That said, it's definitely the best player and the best all-rounder, too.
Good man!! Same here. Mine as you know is a 'custom' with maple wings (it can fly, too) and has become my #1 because it is very c=versatile and sits well between the more aggressive and plinky series 2 and the fretless series 3 which is the same 'standard' model as yours.

My 5 string is a 1991 model and in superb nick, but there are lots of signs of playing wear which I think are a good sign. I suppose 1991 was quite a while ago now! This is definitely 'The One'

  8. Hi Chris,

I haven't received a PM so sorry for being late to the party...

Sibob PM'd me today to say his PMs were not showing as 'sent' but that was because his outbox was full. He confessed to being blonde as a child.

I have told Ben about this and we are investigating now!

  9. Hi mate, moved it...

I haven't played all the options above but have tried a Markbass into an Aguilar 112 and it was very nice indeed - I am not normally much of a MB fan but this cabinet suited it really well because it seemed to sound flatter than when i have tried MB heads through other neo cabinets which sometimes sounded a little mid heavy.

  10. I used to use the enhancer very sparingly to bring out a bit of extra top end definition. I used the pedal before my amplifier and used it like a 'smoothener' before my amp. Now though I get the same kicks from the XT pro and boosting 8khz a little bit. I still prefer limiters to compressors and find the comp on the front panel of the XT pro sounds (or doesn't sound, if you know what I mean) like a limiter!

  11. I think I have seen such a thing but to be honest you might be hard pushed to find a well priced one which is designed for the bass. I used to use the LMB3 all the time, even toyed with having it fitted into my bass at one point. You could always mount it in a custom box and hide the other controls. I found the 'enhancer' just as useful as the limiter though.

  12. I really like the Boss one. Can't go wrong. If you have no use for the other knobs just leave them in one place, but you will definitely get the best out of it with the knobs moved around a little bit.
