1. All very festive!! Quite a skill to be able to knock those out Alun!

Just a quick thought, the clicks might be because when you converted it to Mp3 it stretched the time very slightly - I did this somehow once by accident and it sort of clicked where it tripped over itself in one or two places.

Cheers and merry xmas to you too!

  2. It is very inconspicuous from the outside - situated next to the airfield and basically looks like a brick building from the outside with a subtle logo on the neighbouring unit sign - the logo has changed to a picture of the bluebird land speed car because the chap who built it was local or something - can't remember off the top of my head. hopefully I will see you over new year then!

Quite enjoy late night walks to the Tesco after a days recording - coming out of that warm, dark cozy building into a freezing night is like being reborn!

  3. Hello mate,

Didn't notice you are from Blackpool area too! It is filmed at Bluebird Studios in St. Annes http://www.bluebirdstudios.co.uk/ which is fairly near Blackpool if I am not mistaken.

Me and my brother go up there a fair bit because my brother Tim met Chris the owner of the studio whilst on a technical illustration course up there. Since then the three of us have been laying down our own brand of irritating elevator funk 'muzak' and been getting some business here and there.

The studio is fantastic - a very nice setup. Chris tells me the control room has been re-arranged a bit now and is all much neater! The large room is excellent for recording orchestras and big bands.

It is a bit of a mission from Oxford but so many happy memories and we can have a walk along the sea front with some plastic boobs and candy floss.

    Cheers

P.s Ste I am up there over new year so if you fancy meeting up feel free to get in touch and stop by the studio, I can have a wazz on the Mule!

  4. Probably this one for lots of reasons - been through a fair bit with this one, it has seen off basses from all corners of the globe and I don't think I have owned another bass for as long as this one!

I have been playing its 5 string sister almost exclusively since I got it though - I think the 5 string is more 'me' at the moment, it is probably even better to play and is a 'better' example of the breed, but there is an undeniable beauty about this scarred and beaten slab which I know the sound of inside out, live and in the studio. It is the bass equivalent of sleeping in your own bed.

Realistically though I would probably be consumed in the fire as I frantically try to save the other two and my amp - and of course my staffie! Doubt she would help me out though, always looking after #1 she is!!

  5. I fear you might be right. No point hacking away at the original neck. I guess you could have a Warmoth(sp?) neck and see if that is more stable - maybe you got a dodgy plank of maple? It wouldn't be impossible for a few dud necks to have been made. No need to get graphite if you are unsure about the sound.

  6. I was forced into some xmas shopping yesterday and have to say that it really annoyed me watching people buy all this disposable crap that won't ever be used - far better to spend it on something which will be used and loved every day - when it is something as personal as a bass guitar then price becomes irrelevant - be it expensive or cheap - it is about feel and sound. It is however unfortunate we have to pay for them at all!

  7.
My opinion would be that there is really no need to spend anywhere near £1500 to get a really excellent bass.

Half that should suffice, leaving you the option of two basses, a bass and amp setup, or just some money ;-)

Seriously though, ask yourself this, would even a £500 bass actually hold your playing, and your music back?
You are of course correct, but if you happen to have a soft spot for a particular instrument then it can be an expensive addiction. It's like this with cars - you can get a perfectly good car for a fraction of what some people pay, but many choose to pay more!

  8. Hehe it does indeed! The problem is that for £1500 the options are so special, so custom and so tailored to the individual that it is hard to generalise. It might be better to give me some of the money to narrow down the options somewhat?

  9. It used to a little yes - my 3500 was racked in a carpeted box too so it hung over a lot - but I started to put the 210 upright next to the 410 so I had a sort of '610 on its side' arrangement and all was well!

I think you are right to experiment with the rig - keep us up to date!

  10.
This is your old 210xl Ped, I sold it to Sparky a few weeks ago!

I'm with Merton on this one - if you like the sound and it fill your criteria portability wise, why change things?
Really!! Wow that's funny. I had some good times with that cab. Used it at most of the gigs we did at Uni. What a little belter.
