  1. Whilst that mar*b*ss is obviously clever, I hate to think it would put people off buying other tube heads on the premise that keeping one running correctly is impossible for anyone but a microprocessor! Suppose I better throw away my 'Ageing/retired' trace then because I am unable to turn a knob and bias it myself.

Coming next from markbass, ready buttered bread!

  2. Aww I loved mine but found it sounded GREAT with my then current bass (Marleaux) but not very nice with my others. It seems to work better with single pickup designs.

Since selling mine I now get my kicks from my Bass Pod which does a superb array of filtery goodness. I have samples of my FX25 and my Pod settings I will post when I get my computer back.

    Cheers

  3. Hi chaps,

Computer folk had a quick look today and haven't worked it out yet. Funny you should say TURN OFF noscript etc as the sites only work with it turned ON! Very random. I will have it back tomorrow morning so lets hope they fix it, or it goes out of the window (or through theirs)

  4. Can anyone remember the place that makes aluminium cases with foam inside so you can cut your own shape? I want to get one to put my bass and XT Pro inside with the plug and in-ears, so I have it all in one case. The rack unit is really shallow so would fit in the gap next to the neck. The bass could even be angled in the case to allow more padding between the bits.

I seem to remember the place sold the cases for about £100, but can't find it now!

  5. Hi guys,

I have been talking to Elixir and thought I would post what he told me via e-mail for you all:

    ----------------------------------

We changed our distributor in May this year from "Strings and Things" to "Westside Distribution".

Westside distribute all our lines ( Bass / Acoustic / Electric / Banjo & Mandolin) throughout the UK and are doing a very nice job.

If any of your readers are having any difficulty in finding our bass strings they can check our website www.elixirstrings.co.uk ( which is about to be updated ) or contact Westside www.westsidedistribution.com These two options should help your players locate a retailer who stocks Elixir® Strings.

There may also be some confusion around our change in the way we sell our bass strings now.

We previously sold 4 string sets, 5 string sets and 6 string sets.

We now offer retailers a more flexible way to offer even more of our bass strings to end users.

We sell 4 string standard sets in the following gauges - All NANOWEB Coating

    Super Light -(040 - 095)
    Light - (045 - 100)
    Medium - (045 - 105)
    Medium XL - (045 - 105)
    Heavy - (050 - 105)

In addition we now offer as full retail packs

5th Strings to allow standard or customised 5 string sets ( for the same price as our previous 5 string sets)

    Super Light -125
    Light - 130
    Medium - 130tw
    Medium XL - 130tw
    Heavy - 135

    6th String

    Medium - 032

Hope this explains it a bit.

    Happy to post any updates.
    --------------------------------------------------

Also remember that strings like Warwick EMPs are actually very different from Elixirs - they coat the individual parts of the string prior to winding, wheras Elixir coat them afterwards, meaning the crap doesn't get in between the windings. This is completely protected by Elixir and nobody else can copy this method. To me, the Warwick strings are a funny approach - they actually put gunk in between the windings before you have even tried them!!

Hope this helps. Would it be a good idea to change the heading of this message to reflect the change in distributor?

    Cheers

  6. Chaps

Thank you ever so much for this late night help.

    Now then, a little update...

I ran Chkdsk just for fun as I know I have updated everything on my computer, I look after it very well and keep it all tip top. Well. I started scanning the D: (second partition to my main disk) and it stopped half way. getting annoyed, I took out the battery and restarted, only to find upon launching firefox that the default skin had loaded with most of my add-ons loading in new tabs and items like Foxytunes moved to their default positions. A quick check showed everything is now working fine - I moved everything around and it is still now fine. (touches wood)

I will keep you up to date, but really have no idea what happened there. I was literally JUST about to do a system restore on the badboy...

  7. Ok now on facebook it only shows a few pictures per image gallery. Many just show as small blank boxes.

I thought I could update Java to the new version (intentionally running older version 5 because 6 is incompatible with Line6 Edit) but it can't connect to the thingy to download the bugger.

  8. The only problem now seems to be that I cannot post new threads here! It is OK on Talkbass. The Google picture still wouldn't load but now it is ad-blocked anyway so maybe that was covering up the problem rather than facing it head on. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

  9. STRANGE PROBLEM

I cannot make 'new topics' hence my post here. Since this afternoon I can't load facebook and the google ad at the top of the screen won't load the 'ads by google' picture and subsiquently the page is always 'loading'. WTF is going on?? When I try an dpost a new topic I just get the two lines for title and subtitle.

PLZ help!! Some other sites are being funny too, namely eBay.

I am using Firefox and XP, all up to date, virus scanned etc.

  10. I found my sound a while ago but didn't quite believe it - I bought lots of other things and ended up selling them in comparison to the 'one' until a recent financial close shave that made me realise I am very lucky to have what I consider to be the 'one' and it really has stopped any serious GAS for basses completely for the foreseeable future. It is a lovely feeling though.

  11. The theory is that the lower strings benefit from the extra scale (the merits of which are contested themselves, but I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with extra scale basses..) and the higher strings benefit from a slightly shorter scale. The 'standard' 34" scale is basically a compromise between the two ideals. It might narrow down string choice though, I can't remember if it was string thru body or not.

  12. I played Toasted's Jazz and thought it was very nice - obviously well put together, a little too radical for my tastes but the low strings reminded me of my 36" Bacchus with their deep and resonant response. Like others have said, really it feels very natural and wouldn't take anyone long to adjust.

Toasted's bass is at the Gallery in Camden if you fancy trying it for yourself.

  13. Nice. What kind of setup do you use on the POD for the bass? When I try to emulate a P bass sound I like the B15 model and cab with a close d112 mic and a generous dollop of high mids. Gets me as close as I can with my bass, anyway (which isn't THAT close, but close enough!)
