Hi everyone,
Just had time to sort this one out into what I would call a test phase, but please give feedback and play with the interface if you can, so we can make it a good resource for everyone after some inspiration!
Hope you like it...

I have added three sample clips to the Funk, Rock and Jazz sections. Rather than being 'Loops' they are short samples which i used to demo some basses, but they should give you an idea of formats and how to post. I will add a FAQ saying step by step how to add the files, but it is a basic matter of attaching the clip to your post and selecting it from the drop down menu in the text editor.
See how you get on and keep the ideas and comments coming!!

Sparky, you have hit the nail square on the head. That sums up my experiences pretty much completely. It is a real shame, but I doubt I will ever buy anything from a music shop again!
Yeah, but come on, imagine saying an amp didn't exist that was sitting in front of the person on the phone and is on the markbass website (and catalogues I presume?)
Lol yeah I suppose that part is quite funny but I would advise them to change the second part of their name to something more fitting - 'Absolute *******'

I wouldn't be laughing personally, but happy that you can!

I must admit, despite being much bigger and heavier than the setup mine replaced, it was very easy to move about. I used to wheel it up to the boot of my 440 and topple it in. The boot sill got scratched to buggery but obviously that didn't matter!
Cheers

It can be very modern - depends on what you plug into it. I used mine with a 400+ which was a classic combination - but any decent powerful head will be flattered by it. Being full range, you will get more of everything - with my basses it sounded really transparent but huge and clear.

Good times! -
Nice one Dave - light weight gear is for losers ;0)

My arm pain turned out to be a shattered disk in my neck, so don't much about - see your doc. Not that my doc knew his arse from his elbow, mind.

There may be a reason you can't use a blend on a passive bass - I am not sure to be honest! I prefer it though myself, but then I have had mainly active basses. I think the coil tap would be best as a little switch - you could have a push/pull pot though but I don't like them myself. If you want to remain passive you might like to check out the Villex booster, I think it would help you get the most out of a passive bass with such pickup config.
Cheers matey

If it was me I would like a blend control and a coil tap for the humbucker.

I think Clover do a P/MM bass. Makes sense to me, as I find front J pickups a bit noisy and sometimes a bit brittle when soloed.

Alright Jammy?
I am interested in your bass quest as I think our tastes are similar in many ways - we both dislike Kiwi for a start.
My feeling is that if you love the F bass in the studio, there is really no reason why that sound shouldn't be achievable live. When I first got my new Vigier 5 I had it sounding amazing in the studio (obviously my amazing playing helped, but you know, what can I say lol) and when using it live I had to start form kind of square one - the settings are all slightly different but the end result is the same sound. It might be worth taking some time with the F bass and really trying to nail that sweet spot with it and your rig. I am sure you will get there with such good equipment (and good playing, being serious)
It is a bit of a pain and especially when different venues need their own settings but once you get to 'know' the bass properly and get a bit more comfortable with your base tone you should be able to dial in that fat shizzle with little effort.
Or - get a fretted Marleaux to match! Or even better, a Carvin/Marleaux hybrid maybe? Seriously that would suit you down to the floor!
Cheers

Big +1 to Tom's post - loads of people are reading this! Oh I had better be on my best behaviour!
The red eyes on the lion are what make it super tacky/special/cool in my opinion. I wouldn't say no to some diamonds on the switches and maybe some neons under the hood, maybe a fat air scoop and an induction kit -
The Löwenherz basses are not my cup of tea either, but like you say, a very interesting bass in a weird and wonderful way! The lion's head looks almost like a cracker present - it is so tacky it is ALMOST awesome. Almost.

It might be the sound of the tube power amp you found so pleasurable on stage ;0)
I am not sure if the Titan is much lighter (certainly doesn't sound it, does it!) but I too would be very interested to hear comments about it.
Cheers!

Hi mate,
Never tried one myself, but I have tried the walkabout head which I believe has a similar tube tube/mosfet power arrangement and wasn't amazed by it, although through the walkabout cabinet I hear it is fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing if Mesa are going to replace the now discontinued 400+ and would be tempted to wait until this is announced before paying for a new Titan. Get yourself a good used 400+ in the meantime! -
It was nice that you rescued it from the shop and passed it on to a good home!

Did he forget to wrap it before posting it? ;0)
Looks nice, get some sound samples up!
Cheers

Basses or amps?

I hate amplifiers on the whole. First of all I think they broke one of my disks and secondly like SJA says all to often I have taken a big rig somewhere and ended up being barely able to hear it and using the floor wedge more instead. I much prefer taking my BOD instead as I can get the sound I love anywhere and at whatever volume I like, plus can use in-ear if I wish so even if the sound man buggers things up I can at least hear exactly what I want, plus use the floor wedge to feel the bass.
However, I am the very proud owner of a lovely condition (thanks Chris!) Trace V4 combo which I love - I wouldn't use it in a live situation in all probability but it is really nice to have as an example of the top of its breed. I enjoy playing through it at home, but 90% of the time I am using my BOD and in ear monitors. I wish I discovered it years ago!!
