A very useful resource imo even if your not buying.

Have you ever tried Barnes & Noble? It is not UK so probably not very good for buying, but there is always a wealth on information on the albums on there, including who played what. I find it very useful when you buy a CD which doesn't say in the sleeve!

Being the proud owner of a complete set of BADASSes (how many people can say that without smiling), I would however point out that to get the grooves of a B1 down to the level required of most Fenders would require a slot about 4mm or 5mm deep. The BI is the Big Daddy of bridges!

I see! No worries mate. I re-read what I said and thought you might have interpreted it that way. I wasn't very clear!

Thanks mate - I will play with the .Wav samples!

  4. I quite like the panning, it sounds a bit different anyway. I found the whole mix a tiny bit muddy, perhaps some more seperation between the distorted guitar and the bass might help. Really good tunes though. I can definitely hear your influences!

As always, it is hard to discuss a mix properly from a myspace version, which always sound very compressed.

Very good tunes though, really good!!! You are fairly close to me so I could come and see you at some point.

  5. All deleted threads go into the 'recycle bin' where I found the BFM thread which went offline. The only thing in there by you Joe is your Dingwall for sale thread - is that meant to be there??

    Cheers

  6. [quote name='ZPQ' post='66093' date='Sep 26 2007, 08:13 PM']Fair enough - like I said I was sort of thinking out loud.
I guess the lack of consistency was something I found a bit odd, but perhaps I'm used to forums that are more "aggressively" (is that the word) moderated but with explanations for the moderation.

Thanks for replying though - I always like the atmosphere on BW where everything (that I recall) was friendly and upfront, and it sort of feels less like that here. Maybe it's just me. Good to hear your views though.

    Cheers

No worries John, thanks for speaking out and letting me know. I just really don't want to have any rules or regulations as such (other than outlined in stickies/signup script etc) because it is really hard work! I think things flow pretty nicely here and any arguments are sorted out before most of us realise things have turned.

I know there have been one or two discrepancies recently, such as the deletion (and apparently editing) of a thread but I still don't know the facts there so I think I will concentrate on keeping things running! What other inconsistencies have you noticed?

Cheers mate and thanks for the kind words Chris ;0)

  7. Hi John,

I see many of your comments and can appreciate your point of view. My personal feelings are that unless something is really bad, then it can normally be dealt with by other members taking the offender down a peg or two. Deleting threads/posts is messy as there are always innocents who get tied in and lose their post.

I guess I don't really understand that there could be anything THAT bad on an online forum that would necessitate stronger moderation rules. I think most people just read what they like and avoid arguments etc if they are not interested, which, thankfully, most people are not.

Making tighter limits on the for sale forum in terms of pre-ebay items only etc etc would be very difficult to enforce and would cut down some of the items listed quite a lot - most good basschatters offer the items to other members at a better price, and those who don't, well - the item has less chance of selling. But that is up to the poster to decide. Personally I value the relationships built with other members through buying and selling items, and the simple 'look at my ebay auction' threads just don't compete. I am sure others find them a good 'heads up' on items they might otherwise miss, so swings and roundabouts.

As always, if there is anything in particular you think should be 'moderated' for any reason, just PM one of the mods, Steve or myself and we will be only too happy to help.

I hope that doesn't sound like I said no to everything. It would be good to hear what people think and suggest some ideas. I think a 'report post' button might be a useful and quick way of alerting a mod to a particular thread.

    Cheers

  8. Oh and the parking at Harcourt was crap - always full unless you got there at about 7am with the over the top neurotic primary school bunch. The flipside was that I started leaving my car anywhere and leaving it, because I found that the car is impossible to clamp if you lower the suspension right down (a Citroen Xantia) which really annoyed everyone. Once they put cones all round my car in an effort to stop me. Well it didn't of course. Good times.

  9. Oh I see, that sounds good - I guess you can pop over and pick up some of the fantastic basses they make out in Japan for us! Navigating some of the Japanese websites can be pretty hard.

Geography at degree level - as I remember it - was pretty much like A level but with drinking in between.

Ditto the comments on teaching. I really wasn't sure, but as I got into better schools towards the end I realised that I will really enjoy it as long as I don't apply to a naff school. When you get a nice group and you are teaching something interesting, it really is excellent.

I won't actually be applying for jobs until the hopefully not-too-distant future because I had an op on my back after my PGCE and I am still waiting for it all to pass. I knew a 110lb 2x10 bass cab was a bad idea. (not really, I don't think it was anything to do with that - Basson cabinets are AMAZING by the way!!)

    Cheers fella

  10. Ah nice one! I was meant to go to Headington for graduation but frankly the parking is impossible and it was at 8 AM!

I did geography at uni (Aberystwyth) before doing the PGCE at Brookes. Harcourt Hill is a dump, isn't it!! Fortunately most of the course is spent in schools.

You can't beat living away from home whilst at Uni. You made the right choice!! Japan house - is it all japanese or something??

    Cheers

  11. Very nice indeed - Everyone knows I am a fan of the Smith sound. There is nothing like a bass with some playing wear - you know it must be a belter if it has been played so much. Will you be able to get some sound clips up?

The spacing looks about right too, and the fingerboard is very striking - Jacaranda?? You might try emailing Ken Smith and see if he has any information on the bass, such as the woods and its birthday.

    Enjoy

P.s shall I delete the 'self relicing' thread now ;0)

  12. Oh which campus? I just finished a PGCE at Harcourt Hill. I am in Witney, just a few mins west (well it SHOULD be a few mins but can take bleedin hours if you get stuck behind a micra on the A40)
